    You really took the production value up. I love how you are able to cover the same car but you attack each topic with a slight but new twist that still provides more value.

      @@lancemannion4113 do you prefer it over the 8th generation civic si? I had one and loved the 8k redline but always missed the torque of turbo engines

      @@Ballsack44 I know exactly what you mean. There is something about that intoxicating scream of the Honda si k20 or the rxs type S. They definitely scoot and it would be very close as far as power numbers go. And in both those cases I guess you could argue those cars do have a nicer interior. But the Honda not having the hatchback is a drag. And the driving dynamics on the fiesta are at another level. The Acura might be closer (in type S form) having the big hatch area, but again, Ford killed it with steering/handling. Plus, much more usable rear seat room, if you actually need it. But again, engine/gearbox-wise, the 2006 gen si and all type S (especially refresh version) are killer fun in a small package!

  • @bongodave13

    Bottom line? Both are great cars. Solid performance for the money. If you want more power, handling, etc., they both have a strong aftermarket.

    I test drove a used Molten Orange Fiesta ST with the red Ricaro seats today and loved it. Before I thought the focus ST would fit me better, but I loved the color combo and driving. Tough call for me... the two focus STs I test drove were actually slower than I expected

    I bought a white 2014 FiST last June. Just sold it one week ago with 150,000 km on it and it ran like absolutely brand new. Loved it! The only reason I sold it was because I'm just not a four-door guy so I was looking for a two-door (well, 3!) mk6/7 GTI.
    Drove two of them, one with the manual, one with the DSG. And although the interior is obviously a big step up in many ways, and they have a quite a bit more room in the back, and are clearly more refined, they just didn't have that certain.....gottagosomewhere...anywhere...now! - feel, that that FiST has hardwired in their DNA. Ford knocked it so far out of the ballpark when these were introduced I think it caught everybody off guard.... At least in North America. Brilliant, bad-ass angry sea creature car!!
    So as of 2 days ago, I bought my new car. A 2015 FiST in a not so subtle performance (sonic) blue 😁. Yup. Back to back. They're that good. Oh, and this one only has 80,000 km and a sunroof!
    Go find one. You won't be sorry

    I previously owned a Focus RS. After a month of daily driving I felt it was too hyped up. I ended up getting rid of it with only 2900 miles. I drove a focus ST previously and that car impressed me! It was used and 90k miles but 10k purchadse price not bad! I now have a fiesta ST with recaros, purchased for only 8k in Molten Orange from original owner. I think thats honestly the perfect all around car. I have to take value into consideration. 8k vs 33k for my RS and its hard to justify the 25k difference

      I had a Focus ST for 3 years, then traded it in on an RS. Honestly overall I enjoyed the ST more. The RS only fun if I was doing track or autocross events and really pushing it around 8/10's or more. The Focus ST was a much more fun and overall better street car.

    Fun review RR. As an ST3 owner it’s the Focus ST hands down for me. I can fit my teenage girls/whole family in the car for up to one hour trips. I sure wouldn’t want to go cross the country in my Focus with the family. That’s a bit to much togetherness for my Motley Crüe. Its a fantastic daily driver. You didn’t mention only 1.8 turns of the wheel lock to lock!!! The steering rack is fast AF! If you sneeze on the highway and you are not used to the speed of this rack, you could put yourself into the weeds. NO turbo lag. Incredible torque from down low. The turbo is super small on both of these cars but I never feel a lack of power in my ST and I have driven many 400+ HP cars. I find it amazing that the Focus weighs 3100-3200 pounds. Thats solid for a smaller car. The Fiesta is just cheap. Four lug wheels bum me out. The rims look cheap. It’s way to small. It’s unsafe small. I’m 6’ 1” and nobody is sitting behind me in a Fiesta. Its slow by todays standards. Every punk in any hot hatch is going to smoke you. I hear they handle fantastic and I have no doubt they do but for me I need more practically in my daily driver. The shifter blows away the shitty shifter in my 2006 Acura TL 6 speed. The “great” Honda shifter doesn’t compare to the FORD. My ST has 70K of Redline churning bulletproof fun behind her. The car is reliable as anything from Japan. Germany....HA! Don’t make me laugh. There is a reason everyone leases German cars. Nothing worst than an older German car with high 75K+ mileage. The Fact that Ford is abandoning the car market is a travesty. The next time gas spikes up to $4.00-$5.00 a gallon Ford will choke while Honda sells every Civic and Accord it can build. Bad move Ford. Some of us actually like to drive and don’t want a high riding slush box automatic crossover or SUV. Ford will have ONE manual transmission left: The Mustang. That’s it.

      Thanks brother! I always look forward and love your commentary. You explain things so well in such a way it brings a smile to my face. The power delivery of the Focus ST is really wonderful. I totally get your gripes with the Fiesta ST. Thank you for your enthusiasm and support!

    • @DanielBrownOre
      @DanielBrownOre 6 лет назад +1

      If you really think the Focus has THAT much more room in the rear seat than the Fiesta then you desperately trying to justify your expensive ST3... I've had both and both have shit for rear leg room... also, you are probably judging the Fiesta being slow by the completely inapplicable 0-60 time, people are hitting the 1/4 mile in under 15 secs stock and a simple tune can take off 3/4 of a second off that... I got the Sony stereo in my $18k Fiesta and didn't have to spend $25K on an ST2 for a bunch of crap I don't need either... Look, I'm in a group that is mainly FoST's, I like them too, but quit trying to justify your expensive ST3 by bagging on the Fiesta, which is an incredible value for what they are going for.

    Great video as usual but you only do the straight line test with both cars - I would have loved to have seen you take both through the twisties and give your feedback. Also, since the price, weight and power are close, a comparo between the Fiesta ST and newer Civic SI.
    Shame on Ford for discontinuing 3 great and affordable driver' s cars.

      I also would have loved to take them on some twisty roads. Florida is one of the worst places in the country when it comes to twisty roads. It's about 40 mins from Walker Ford to the closest twisty road. Just based on my little drive the Fiesta ST really feel super nimble. I would love to autocross one. I think it would out handle a Civic Si. It is a real shame that this is happening! Thank you for your comments!

    I watched this video when it was posted and looked at both the Fiesta ST and the Focus ST after seeing this. After driving them both I didn't like the position of the shifter in the Focus because I had to bend my wrist at a weird angle when shifting to 2nd 4th and 6th gear like the shifter was too far back. Also to get any options in the Focus the price goes way up. So I'm on my second Fiesta ST my first one was a base 2017 ST and my current 2019 Fiesta ST has every option and yes Recaro seats witch is why I traded in the 2017. After driving one on the track at Octane academy that had Recaro seats I just had to have them. Thanks for the awesome reviews. Keep up the good work

    Oh and for all ST owners when the fiesta ST came out it finished 6th in the 2014 (only new model year is vehichle eligible for motor trend drivers car of year) and the drivers car of year isnt a bunch of average rides 10th VW GTI, 9th BMW I8, 8th Jaguar F type R coupe, 7th WRX STI, 6th Fiesta ST, 5th BMW M4, 4th GTR NISMO, 3rd Alpha Romeo 4C, 2nd Porsche 911 Turbo S, 1st Chevy Camaro Z28...so considering the closest in price is 4k more next 12K more and the rest run 55k- 175k for the first st yo be in the running let alone beat 4 others is well amazing...dont believe it check out 2014 morotrend drovers car of the year video on RUclips

    I love my Focus ST - ST2 and I love riding it for long rides and it's very comfortable in it. I also liked the fiesta at the Ford Racing in Grantsville, UT, but, I still love my Focus ST instead of the Fiesta ST. I hope if people who want to buy one of these, you should do it soon because eventually Ford will not have anymore of these type of vehicles in the U.S. You should all get one because it's just an awesome drive and very agile.

    Hey Joe.. I was telling you I wasn't in the market yet.. Apparently I lied.. I paid off my truck a little early and got into a white ST 3 June 15th.. Freaking fantastic! Yesterday I turned past 1k miles, I have been mostly gentle with it.. Getting some heat in and then letting it settle.. I am not a sissy when it comes to break in.. I drive mostly like I'm going to drive all the time but for the first thousand miles I don't ram into a car like I see some of these guys do in videos.. One of them was spinning first and chirping 2nd on day 2.. He'll be one of those that puts out a video on how the car fell apart at 7k and how terrible it is.. Wonder why?!.. Anyhow, loving the car, there is a bit of torque steer from 1st to 2nd heavy throttle that I am not used to yet having had a 90hp terdster with AWD for 330k.. Seems I forgot.
    I am not TOTALLY in love with the seats yet as it has already broken my phone clip getting in them.. Sliding over the bolsters is a slight challenge when the boys and company get smashed also..
    I'll keep it as long as it goes just like all the others I've had.
    I certainly respect the fiesta ST but I just don't like the look of it.. Even tho it is TOTALLY better than a base model. So I spent more and got a beautiful vehicle.. It's REALLY fun.. I'm heading to Frostburg in it tomorrow.. I'll let you know how it pulls the mountains..
    Ride on!

      Hey Gary! That is awesome news! I'm so glad you pulled the trigger and that you are enjoying her. I totally understand how you feel about the seats. You will get use to them and they will break in a little like a baseball glove. It really has some grunt . You are so lucky you have some nice mountain roads near you! Florida is so flat! You better let me know how it goes.

    For what it is worth, someone on the Fiesta St forum reports that Ford will continue with the Fiesta ST into 2019. Now I will believe it when I see it but, the scuttlebut is that they will be using remaining 2018 cars to finish it out. So, did the popularity of these cars change their mission a bit? Only time will tell :O

      It's fully announced now for the FiST lasting one more year into '19... but likely it's because Focus production was in Michigan using more expensive union labor and Fiesta is assembled in Mexico (with UK eng/trans, both German design) so Ford got the Michigan plants switched over to higher margin SUV's and trucks while the Fiesta is made at a lower labor cost in Mexico (very similar "OK" quality on both), so it can be kept around another year.

    • @bongodave13
      @bongodave13 6 лет назад

      They'll make the Fiesta into 2019. They're made in Mexico, and Ford hasn't decided what to make next there in Cuautitlan, the oldest Ford factory in Mexico. They'll even do an "ST Line," which looks like the ST, but has the standard drive train.

    Nice comparison, between these 2 I would go with the Fiesta. Probably more fun to toss around! Price no object I would get the Focus RS. I did see an article saying the Fiesta st will stick around unchanged for 2019 . Also ford will offer a cheaper version with the st looks but not the performance.

      @RaitisRides  6 лет назад +2

      Thank you for the compliment! The RS is a ton of fun that is for sure. I just heard that news as well. Was interested on forward visibility and drivability performance reliability how well they drive on ice. If its a good looking car or not it dont matter much. How are those seats after a 12 hour drive? ..It might do 153 mph.. If you buy a new ford st ford will give you some track time on their track. It is not really useful if you only drive 80 mph...might do 100 mph. A few times a year.....How does that tubo hold up after 100k miles? Living in the rust belt will the car rust away in 10 years. Will the car even last that long? Test drove a st1 they were too pushy on selling it... Hard to say if its a good car or not... How much is insurance ? That Can be a deal breaker .

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  6 лет назад +1

      These are all very good questions. I think I would want to get out of any car seat after 12 hours and I wouldn't be able to walk right. The ST octane academy is there to show you were are the limits and capabilities of the car. It allows you to be a better driver and allow you to appreciate your vehicle. Insurance is going to have way to many variables: age, driving record, where you live, credit score etc...

      Hala Heleu I live in Wisconsin, I purchased a 2014 focus ST brand new when it came out. It has been my daily driver for going on 5 years now, it has endured the salted Sheboygan roads in the winters. I am at 130,000miles now with her, one clutch rebuild and normal maintenance later and she’s still going strong. Smoke a Honda SI any day lol. With normal care, rinsing of the salt every 2 weeks, normal maintenance, ETC. this car is great I love my ST. As far as insurance, I am a 34yr old male and I pay $200 a month for full coverage. Hope this helps.

  • @ProDigit80
    @ProDigit80 6 лет назад +2

    both cars need at least 20% higher final drive gear ratio.
    The highway RPM is too high, and MPG could be much better. (20% better).
    For the streets, the Fiesta ST tire is a bit low profile. Could easily do with an additional 2 inch tirewall increase.
    The Focus RS acceleration is pretty much similar to the Fiesta ST.
    For there to be a noticeable improvement between both cars acceleration wise, the Focus will need about 300HP. The 50HP it has extra with the extra body weight is going to make it feel pretty much identical to the Fiesta ST.
    The funny thing is, that owning a Fiesta, I don't think I can classify it as a sports car. I might have if it had 250-300HP.
    It's a great mix between fuel economy and fun. But the real fun starts with 1.8-2.0 liter turbo cars.
    Missing on the Fiesta:
    - A play/Pause button on the steering wheel. The 'voice command' doesn't work very well, and is a step in between.
    - The tweeters are too harsh sounding.
    - The stock seats are too high for a tall guy of +6'.
    - The cubby needs a silicone Sticky Pad, it can fit parking cards, and keys.
    - Steering wheel is too thin for me I needed to install a steering wheel cover, to make it feel more solid.
    - The accelerator (drive by wire) is too light on the foot. Driving highways, I have to lift my foot backwards constantly, to keep the speed. This causes aching legs after a few hours of driving.
    - They made it very hard to install even a subwoofer (compared to previous versions).

Don't know whether you have them over there in the States but Ford now do a ST Line model over here and I nearly brought one yesterday until our daughter looked it up and said to me " Dad its not a proper ST you won't like as it will far too slow for you " Boy when I researched it she was right. I might be 70 but I am not ready for a mobility scooter just yet. Our last holiday in the States we visited your town great beach. Stay safe .Ted

    • @carlwarmington5325

      The 2019 dealership order guide show no redesign as far as the current North American Fiesta. But one nice offering is Ford N.A will offer the trim level that has become popular in the Europe market. It is called the ST-Line and for North America 5,000 units will be offered. This specification does not add extra horsepower engines etc, it is an appearance sport package. EG - All new series for 2019MY, offering a bold exterior and sporty
      interior design inspired by the Fiesta ST performance model.
      The Fiesta ST-Line is for customers who aspire to the sporty
      image of the ST - but do not require the full performance
      delivered by optimized ST engines and chassis with sports
      technologies
      Job #1: September 2018
      Limited Production: 5,000 units
      Plus Titanium trim has been cancelled. So 2019 Fiesta S (for fleet market only), the SE , the ST-Line, and the ST will be the North American's last hoorah.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  6 лет назад

    Sales of hatches must be real bad in the US for ford to stop production. I wonder if their decision is based on sales or market research. Shame you can't import your own hatches from Ford Europe and have them converted to US spec on delivery.

      @RaitisRides  6 лет назад

      Raiti's Rides I guess in the US the SUV taps into the frontier, explorer psyche. The vehicle can take you anywhere kinda feeling. An SUV capability’s fit well with the US landscape. SUV’s sell well here in the UK but they’re deemed unnecessary. Most just get driven in towns and cities. Here in London we call them Chelsea Tractors!

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  6 лет назад

      step0601 that sounds like a great explanation but I really think it comes down to the mentality that bigger is better. So many of the SUVs on the market will never see anything but pavement. They really look like oversized cases. It makes me ill.

      Wow, the U.S Focus ST is really poorly specced. In the U.K they all have Recaros and a bigger nav/screen as per the RS (facelift shape has the larger screen anyway).

      I totally use to love Ford Probes when I was a kid. Especially when they had the redesign!

      I've got one, it's still a fun car. J-spec Mazda v6 swapped, maf swap and exhaust, otherwise very stock mechanically, options wise. You should find someone who has one in your area to test.

    Man I keep seeing how cheap these cars were just a few years ago. I payed 20k in 2023 for a 2018 Focus ST with 53k miles. 😭

      My questions are always left up to the viewer to answer. I am here to share the cars with you and I am not here to sell you on anything. I'm just sharing my car passion with people. If it helps people make more educated decisions then so be it.
