    • @anthonyteggart465

      Its about preparing for everything. The first girl cracked abit when she was being cross examined and got to emotional. A strong parry of the question on speeding would have done wonders. Something along the lines of driving has licencing and laws pertaining exclusively to it so can not be held to the same standards of ownership.

    • @davidstebbins8002
      @davidstebbins8002 3 года назад +36

      This is done on purpose; the format of LD debate prescribes that opponents address/face their judges and generally should avoid addressing the opponent directly. It certainly feels awkward at first but is very deliberate. This is also why they both try to refer to opponents in the 3rd party outside of c-x (the opponent, the affirmative side, etc)

      QueenOnni McA the second girl was clearly the more astute public speaker and did very well to maintain a calm demeanour in her presentation. Tia's arguement only works if the drug she is talking about has a higher proportion to make you commit a crime while on it. Alcohol for example, is linked to excessive violence and other crimes. I'd be hardpressed to find any evidence showing marijuana use makes someone violent, its a possibility there may be studies but no significant conclusion.
    Tia is the better debater, but by her logic, we should be banning alcohol as well, and her point about criminal justice and rehabilitation being used together is weak because once a person gets a criminal record they are highly unlikely to be employed and recieve societal benefits thus maintaining them in a poverty cycle which we know to cause drug addiction and drug relapse. The other Girl had an easier position to argue but she needed to stop going on about systemic racism as it was pretty irrelevant to the debate.

    They try and compare driving laws to drug laws but when you're driving unimpaired you are in the right state of mind to take action and put someone in harm, when you're on drugs you don't have that right state of mind to differentiate what's right and wrong.

    I saw a movie that mocked how fast students in debate competitions talk ("Candy Jar", Netflix). I thought it was an exaggerated depiction. Now I see that the movie was right to the point. Schools teach students to talk this way? Unbelievable.

    The first girl, Allison, was speaking far too quickly and without rhythm. She brought up some valid points, but overall her position was definitely defeated. A distasteful icing on her position was the frequently political correctness trying to suggest racist everywhere, greatly exaggerating.

If you're shy and not good at speaking up then I suggest you don't, if you like sharing your opinions and speaking outloud then obviously yes it's also a good way to learn how to speak to others better. Best of luck everyone 😘 stan loona

    People who consider joining debate, Do not let this scare you lol. It will take a long while before you have to faced with such immense competition (Unless your in college lol) because firstly you have to be able to build up your confidence before you can put yourself in a situation such as this. These girls have trained themselves for this sort of environment and anyone is capable of doing so.
