"It's time to stop stalking and start talking " such a delightful quote 👏
I can’t understand this quote 😢
Can you explain please
@@АминаКуралбекова-ш7д If you are interested or want to be close to someone, stop stalking them, start talking directly eye to eye
@@АминаКуралбекова-ш7д stalking ~ stalking other people's profiles, then get depressed over how perfect people seem to be
talking ~ interacting with people face-to-face
basically: less internet, more real-life connection
I listen to this stuff like podcasts during my workouts.....good stuff.
You, Sir, are an intellectual! But how do you split your focus? Must be your muscle memory doing all the workout mindlessly...so your brain is free to ponder! That is just my guess but it's an incredible feat indeed!
bro even though its been seven years hope you are good, i am also doing the same thing
I’m a very avid user of social media. The amount of trends that are detrimental to how people perceive each other and themselves is unacceptable. This will only get worse for the future generations as they are more susceptible to the internet.
He should think about his leg movements
really engaging
Social media sucks for real
correlation does not imply causation
causticlyuda of course it does
Let me disprove that - There is a correlation between the number of Shark attacks and the amount of Ice cream sold during a day. The cause of the shark attacks is not the selling of ice cream (or is it?), it is caused by the increase in visitors on a sunny day - therefore, correlation does not imply causation.
It's like tv
Your choise what to see
Good or bad
I wish he was a bit more cerebral... but damn, Jack is good 👍
"You can learn more by looking someone in the eye, then you can from their social media profile" ~man said some profound 🙂
Than
Social media posts may be a highly inaccurate representation of a person, but a subjective interpretation of a body part contains very little, if any, useful information about a person. Try offering Google or Facebook a trade; all the information they've harvested from your social media activity in exchange for a good long look into your eyes.
@@christofthedead we should become data collectors then lol
As somebody who always struggled to look people in the eyes, I noticed that a couple of weeks ago, so profound.
do
if emma watson was a man
Same thought!!!!
man, you spoil the speech
@@creativebooth3140 lmao :D
😩 nailed it lol.
Exactly. You put my thought into words😂
Stop STALKING and start TALKING 😂
Very important message!👌
True
Not sure if this is a debate, everything the speaker said was fact.
Everything that debaters say is a fact, the essence lies in how they say it.
I guess it should be fact. A debate should be fact against fact. The breaking point is which fact outweighs the other. I’m not a debater tho, just my opinion
@@Adam-hb6lw I know I posted 2 years ago now so views may change a bit. I feel like a debate is more about the best experienceable outcome for the facts being presented. I dont really see it as some facts are better than others as most facts are equally valid. But some facts are more appropriate for the present situation than others. It explains the reason behind multiple governing parties instead of just having one party alone.
So essentially you're right
"Social Media is giving massive followings who are popular rather than people who are professional"
Damn I felt that.
He’s really a good speaker. His argument is clear, manner is good, but the most empressive part is his easygoing speaking. It makes us -listeners- to feel him as a REAL talanted speaker! He surely got this debate
I find it distracting that many of the debaters will read off essays rather than look at the audience. In many presentations in the sciences, it's bad form to read the notecards or to read off powerpoint slides. I expected many of them to have already memorized their arguments and be prepared for opposition.
I need someone to present their stance and to explain their arguments as if they are teaching and talking to me. The essay should only be used if they get lost.
@@unentitledunentitled6149 yeah ...
@@unentitledunentitled6149 Yeah... Debate doesn't mean narrating notes.... It's about interacting with people.. Talking about our beliefs... And beliefs can never be theoretical.. It has to be practical
@Eric Li interesting read. Any recommendations into books you / your friends have been reading please? Thanks
@@SkilliciousDesigns Empire of sins
his delivery of ideas and arguments of social media was nice, he didn't jump into it's corruption of social interaction, he explained what social media is, and then he began to say his argument.
Ye that’s the first thing all gov need to say at the start. Definition of terms. Assume the audience has no idea about the topic
that's the structure of debating
This is the best first speaker The Union has had in a long time. I hope this is the begining of a trend.
STRAYA REP
Yah he is a amazing ,fantastic, marvellous and says to be also funniest speaker
Ahh, you're just saying that because he's handsome with great hair.
Good Observation
@@insanecaine can you hold that against him though... he got some good Gene's good for him
I find it so attractive that he is intelligent and wearing a suit. Just my type.

@@satisfatic6287 ya ampun, ngakak 😂
(+) he's good manner and also good looking :v jahaha
You gonna marry him?
Same. Lmao.😂
Real human connections are being replaced by virtual relationships. The truth is for most part, we are spending huge proportion of our lives living in a digital universe
He is a verygood speaker the way he speaking, attitude, behaviour everything is perfect.he sharead such knowledgable things which may we dont even got from any university...
Agreed
Very monotonous use of his right hand.
If you always use the same gesticulation, people don’t really know which point/sentence is *important* or _less important_
Other than that, extremely good speech and good and easy to follow presentation of facts.
Now this is a conversation worth having. Social media has exposed the true number of narcissistic and downright mean people there are out there, and that is not even mentioning the illegal deta collection and sale of by companies. It has grown into something that is extremely harmful mentally to people, I notice myself how I would laugh if someone liked a comment and so I stopped using it
This man might just be the best first speaker they have had
What a fantastic speech that truly highlights the incessant issues that social media has on societal structure. Bravo!
Personally, I think he more showed the effect of social media on the person than on relationships. His points were valid but needed to be explained and the negative effect on relationship, identified and evidence been given. His public speaking is fabulous, but I believe it’s so good that it’s covering up some of the holes or irrelevance in his argument. Please include your opinion below after rewatching to see if you can understand my points.
finally someone said this!! I am reading the comments, and I am surprised that no one pointed this out
yes, also his point about the supposed causation of depression in users of social media was pure conjecture
That was a very passionate and articulate speech, wow
As a professional Doctorate student, social media has been very influential both in the professional and personal life, because people follows our post than knowing what's the truth. I love this video so much. Thank you so much Sir Jack Symonds for your propositions.
who's here because of their english homework
Ended with 'propose' ...man propose to me so wittingly and wisefully talking against Instagram on my behalf at the Oxford union...this is my soul mate. I made my thesis about this yet more specifically about activism in social media.
Classy acknowledgement of the opposition and equally elegant exposition of the question; some very fine points made!
"You can learn more by looking someone in the eye, then you can from their social media profile" 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Showed respect, Had spoken on facts rather than dwelling on this and that's. Had done his homework quite well. Talked with full consciousness and confidence.
He said damn well!.
Social media is giving massive following to people who are famous than people who are professional. Absolutely right
Being able to speak cohesively and simply is a huge advantage for persuasiveness
They don't know that we are watching this video on social media
hahaha best counter argument ever
okay...he's cute, and the accent is very endearing, but the shifting and the continuous hand movement became an extreme distraction. however, I enjoyed his argument very much. his voice inflection was far more interesting to listen to than many of the speakers I've seen.
Hmm
Me watching this video envying him for being so talented
Me watching this video idk don't know that man good speech
Shout out Kris Pamesa may tae sa shorts
He’s the kind of speaker who needs to be excessively loud to get his points across
Not really. He just wanted to make sure his voice was clear.
4:06 lmao
i need someone to count how many times his hand goes up and down i'm going to guess in the 1000s if you count all the smaller hand gestures
Great speech!! He makes strong points for the proposition.
"it's time to stop stalking
and start talking"
my introverted self feels personally attacked
hehe
wow
this is a speech one can listen without spending a bit boring moment. simply perfect.
I don't agree with all of your points but damn, that was one fine speech!!
well said, very well mannered, respects the opposition, knows what hes saying, he really is a good speaker
Someone has his Instagram please
For real!!
I've always wondered what the notes look like that this or any other speaker reads from. Did this speaker have his speech written out in full sentences there or is it more a kind of bullet point, key word, rough outline? Does anybody know?
I have seen some debaters create a full proper speech as it creates a clear mind when presenting the speech and helps you go with the flow. But then some really experienced debaters can just have some keywords in the order they wanna talk about things and speak effortlessly.
It's just in my experience..
@@ananyasingh8997 Thanks for elaborating!
No problem. :)
We watched this in English and the whole class was waving their fists up and down during it.
anyone here in 2020? sorry very random…XD
Yeah just stopped by to say how the premise is totally ridiculous.
This boy brought us a view that we didn’t see in a brilliant style!
Ironically I'm watching this on social media! Great debate!
A very good speaker but I generally disagree with everything he put forward as far as the topic of the debate is concerned. Examples given do not explain how human interactions are corrupted, they are examples of the negative effects of social media.
Jimmy Ng I guess but I’m the description it said that the subjects discussed may not reflect their values
We have a solution for this: together we share offline likes.
wow he's handsome he can surely corrupt me
I need to bring this Gentleman with me in the IELTS test task 2 writing, The headline of this video must be "how to score a 9 in IELTS Writing!!!"
5 years after this debate in 2022, social media as a source of comparison, jealousy and feelings of lack leading to depression is prevalent.
Indian youth never take paper copy during speech
Some do !
Talking points rebuttal:
1. The phrase everything with moderation and consideration, covered in common sense 101 answers this years ago including every possible variable taken into consideration.
2. Too many more points to type out. 😂
3. Eating disorder should be taken into consideration that some people are able to reach certain physical standards without it being a sacrificial deficiency.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching though.
The first man is much more handsome than actors in movies
doesn't matter actors act and its more efficient to produce a film with good acting not faces
Pewdiepie is more handsome
He do be fine tho 👀

Social media is playing a crucial role because every one has a weapon to access and express to oneself..
what is the point of expressing oneself when your view can be distorted, misinterpreted and even use to justify something completely different.
"EVERY ONE has a weapon to access and express to oneself" 🌚 it made us care about shitty opinions of unqualified people like t*te. Like bro what are your qualifications? Masters in gender studies?
Cuteness overload on both side 😍.
When a channel discuss 2 hours a pathetic news that

No usefull news
I can't help but notice how his feet move forward and backward😅
What is it with Brits and waving their arm around for no reason during a speach
I wouldnt use the word corrupt. Its just that great things take long hours of reverie - arts, innovation, pioneering etc. Social medias deny that.
social media is causing obesity as well
Man! he is trying too hard to speak.
We need to work on the body language, it seems.
shout out reniel "ebaksashorts" arcilla
He is an extremely influential speaker and whatever he said is what we feel. If the opposite team denies the fact that his facts are false....I cannot judge them.
Yeah we have to avoid social media
The irony.....
DAMN
He’s a true gentleman, sheer class
This is the BIGGEST ISSUE IN THIS MODERN WORLD
Really great speech on the dangers of social media :)

All media corrupts human interactions, including the medium of language. Media also enhances human interactions. Why the need for simplistic absolutism?
Wow!
You are a genius!!!
This is first the best speaker and enviable person I want to this person will be achieve extremely high awards in the future life.I look forward to new and energetic debate
Good speech on the dangers and cons of social media.
No lie detected I’m afraid.
Everything the speaker said was in fact it was clear and understandable this debate was awesome...
