Same here, I'm new to the sport and I have been playing F1 2018 as I prepare for F1 2019. I wanted to understand how the whole race strategy worked out.
refuelling if done right can make f1 faster and have more pit stop strategy variance. Remember France 04, Schumi pitted 4 times and still won the race, 4 fast qualifying stints on low fuel, on the best car of the season. Great explanation by the way. Keep up the f1 videos.
@@vrnvorona one mistake during a normal pit stop, and a wheel will come loose and hit someone at 80 kmh. You might aswell ban pit stops altogether then. Theres been so many times when a wheel has come loose and come very close to hitting someone but as soon as theres one pit fire, they get banned. Flawed logic
You could even get a safety car until the second to last lap. For the restart I would suggest using the super soft tires than, especially if the guy before you stays on the hards. Maybe and I say MAYBE you could pass him in the last lap, wouldn't that be crazy.....
Great video. There is also the effect of following a car closely leading to increase tyre wear, and also if you are in the lead to cover, or to copy the strategy of the car behind in order to keep pace. A defensive strategy. Teams nowadays run sims to see try to determine the optimal strategy. It gets quite complex. Can you imagine controlling an F1 car at 5g and making strategy calculations!
Like others, I would say this is an incredible source to learn more about F1. Please continue making such videos. I would personally like to see videos on car setup, aerodynamics, etc.
I've never watched a race, just seemed like short cars going in circles. This channel has convinced me to watch a race, now that I understand the workings behind a race. F1 should sponsor you for getting them a new viewer.
Same for me 😂 few years back Id be like whats the point of that cars going round in circles hows that interesting? Sitting 2 hours for 2 seconds of excitement and overtaking. With basketball or football you get that every 20 seconds or so 😂😂 but my way in was quite different I was quite interested in the technology involved for some years and how the cars work before going into the actual driving side and sport of it, but sadly after this season Im not sure I can call it a sport anymore or renew my interest in following it.
Dude, this channel is so sick.. we need more content!!! I have no idea what you’re up to with the majority of your time but a video a week would be amazing.. pleeeeease!
Great video with great animations! Really appreciate the detail. One astris to note, the 1st lap on any set of tyres is slower then the 2nd due to drivers building up heat. Attempting to drive race speed from the pits is what cost Alex Zanardi his legs
as someone who recently got into motorsport in general & is very keen on becoming really knowledgeable, i seriously seriously thank you & appreciate you for putting out these videos educating us on the sport. if it wasn’t for people like you, my interest in motorsport would probably have faded, as i found learning the small nuances pretty difficult. thank you!
Wow! Still relevant to Ferrari 😂😂 Also so nice to see how far Stuart has progressed with his production values. This is already a good vid, but the current once are so much for advanced!
I'm very late on this video but man oh man I needed it! I understood the pieces of race strategy but struggled to put them together. Now the puzzle has been laid out for me and it makes so much sense!! Definitely subbing.
Videos like this are proof that pretty much anything can be interesting if someone takes the time to explain it properly. I don't watch F1, but if I was watching it with this guy commentating I could definitely get into it.
Great video. The best way to understand and practice F1 race strategies is playing Motorsport Manager. One more thing that you didn't say is that when drivers are on yellow flag behind a safety car, the tyre temperatures drop low, and so does the grip.
Part of why I like F1 so much is the sheer complexity of every aspect involved. Hell just the logistics of moving everything from track to track is an amazing feat.
I don't even watch F1 but still loved the couple of videos I've seen from you! Very interesting stuff. Never realized there was so much planning behind races.
I m a beginner in F1, it's a very interesting sport. The one thing that I observed is that all the F1 fans that I encounter(only online, in Romania it's not such a popular sport), all of them have common sense, seemingly smart and somewhat of good manners. I think this says something about this sport. I wait for some comments about this topic, also who can recommend me a good site or a magazine to read, even book would be great(obvious about F1 ). Thank you!
I love this guy been a fan since day one and u find It Wierd how he makes videos before a season 🤔 maybe he is a f1 engineer or f1 staff and he will be bussy during the course of the season buttttt engineers are even more busy now prior to the new season 🤔
This is a valuable contribution to the understanding of the sport. We hear a lot about the importance of the skill of the driver, also how lucky he is/was. Seldom is there proper credit and understanding to those who engineer the strategy. All that said, it's an interesting exercise to apply this thinking to the notorious final race to the 2021 season in Abu Dabi. The importance of tyre strategy in this race is consistently ignored by passionate partisanship in the fans. I think it's clear that Hamilton should have boxed earlier but did not is a crucial factor in how the race ended.
I was always confused as to why people liked watching those races and stuff and being me, a person who has no idea of how racing works, from the side it just looks like some cars driving and whoever has the faster car wins. I knew i was missing something and that it couldnt be that plain and simple. I had no idea of all those thing existing and people actually taking in consideration in those races. After watching your video it definitely brought up a lot more interest in me about F1 and overall racing in general. Thank you
Last time I paid attention it was still vettel win... They switched to be more inclusive? Go back to having fuel stops and loosen the rule book or I really don't care and the car companies will get nothing out of the tech and quit...
tinncan One of the reasons they took out fuel stops was to attract more car companies, I think. Car companies need to develop increasingly fuel efficient cars, while still getting similar power and 0-60 numbers to attract the consumer. Same reason NASCAR switched to a higher downforce lower power package.

But F1 doesn’t have fueling anymore so that doesn’t matter. They have a set amount of fuel to run a race
