Seeing the depth of beauty of the Philippines through your perspective and experiences is truly inspiring and heartwarming. Your videos have inspired me to rethink the possibility of retiring back in the country where I was born. My family immigrated to British Columbia in 1977 and became a Canadian citizen in 1982. I recently turned 54 and my 21 yr old daughter is now pursuing a 2nd degree in Corporate Law. As an empty nester and having owned and operated my private company for the past 24 years... I feel a sense of emptiness and void, despite living and working in Downtown Vancouver (BC). Your videos have me rethinking the idea of retiring back to my country, where it all began for me. Thank you for your videos 🥰🫰🏽 Your newest fan 🪭❤
malls in my area are still doing well but man asian malls are crazy there are some with indoor water parks, amusement parks, gaming cafes, buffets, full restaurants, hobby stores, indoor night markets, markets, bakeries, mall events, they aren’t too expensive either
100% agree with you. Here in US, usually mall has a lackluster energy, some even dead and you feel it's not worth going unless you need to. In the Philippines, it's alive and vibrant and you won't even mind making it part of your daily routine.
I have this theory that for malls to survive, there has to be a certain quantifiable foot traffic, and that the immediate surrounding has to have a minimum population density. That is why you always see philippine malls surrounded by condominiums or business offices. Some build the condos and offices on top of malls to guarantee the foot traffic.
Been to the US for a 2-month vacation. Within my first 2 weeks there I already miss the life in Manila. Don't get me wrong, Mankato in MN is a nice place, clean and with warm smiling people. The locals are respectful and helpful too. Malls there are good and frequented by people. Very much different from your Portland. I didn't like the cold weather that's why I thought of returning at once to my home in Manila. I saw Mall of America and it's full of shoppers. I think it's smaller than our Mall of Asia.
I think security is one issue with the US. There are tons of videos of people looting stores, malls, and gets away with a simple demeanor. In the Philippines, every establishment have armed security guards.
they wont do nothing.. remember the robinson incident where burglar bought breaching tools at a home depot then proceeded to rob the jewelry then rush out along with the confused evacuating civilians? theyre more of deterence than actual defence
@@SyntaxError0287 You compare that 1 incident of a planned widescale heist? With vehicles crashing establishments? Any non-police folks would stay away from those syndicates. You haven't heard of an SG shooting tresspasers before?
most filipinos are "mahilig magtambay" (just hangout and chillout) at "mamalengke", until malls were invented the filipino "tambay mode and palenke mode" have been elevated to malls to do just that, and so malls thrive here.
Malls here in Canada are still mostly ok. The nice ones are still bustling and relatively safe. There are also dying or almost dead ones for sure; and I avoid them like a plague. They don’t last long though, they got torn down and redeveloped.
well you know brother those are just the piece of happiness here in the philippines. the main course is to have a family here. having kids and a loving wife. is the most rewarding part.
there are concert too in the mall........ singing competition in the mall..... there an huge open area that is dedicated only for concerts and when i go shopping that music is echoing in the mall and i look down from the 5th floor and i see concert hope you encounter them sometimes
Im a born US Citizen living with my asawa in the Philippines. It's a combination of factors, from good security, family friendly environments, governmental services, hypermarket, entertainment venues and a far more discipline respectful culture, economics, compared to America. I took my Filipina to America to see the malls & it's a massive disappointment. Also the high population density of over 100 million people in a land mass the size of Arizona males a big difference. Coupled with a congested transportation infrastructure makes these places 1st choices, especially on Sundays when they are packed to the gills. Lastly, big enities as SM Hldings & Ayala have long term plans compared to American REITs that want quick instantaneous rate of returns or liquidation.
I think the reason malls here in America or even in Canada is dying is because of three words "ON Line Shopping" but we are amazed the malls in the PHILIPPINES they are massive and insane, they are everywhere alive, and vibrant. I don't know if this is true Malls concept in the PHILIPPINES started in the early 1950s and the rest is history.
To be fair, I love the thrift stores in USA. I see them on RUclips. It's almost impossible here with thrift stores and toys because most are small could be easily pickpocketed.
You have to visit other provinces outside metro manila brian. You ll be amaze of how beautiful the Philippines and its people. Try to visit panay island. Enjoy your stay here. God bless brian
Simple answer why American malls became Ghosts buildings...they did not adjust to the ways of the times....never adjusted and made it a social place......a community centre or a place to relax....
Been there to the Philippines last year to visit my wife's fam. Cannot wait to have enough PTOs to go back there hopefully around Xmas & New Year. We do damn well know what the reason why Mall died here....Thanks to BEZOS.
Because in the US,its so fast paced.its like every minute is important.they work more than 2 jobs.In the Philippines, were just chill. We still.prefer going to the.mall eben if we love online shopping ,mall is still the first choice.
Philippine malls are the new community centers like public plazas of old where people converge, socialize, get stuff and escape the heat (for free). In Singapore which is at 1.29° latitude (compared to Manila's 14.59°) or almost right smack on the equator where the tropical heat is more brutal, malls of all sizes are right next to each other and connected by underground passageways. So you can walk for some distance from mall to mall without leaving airconditioned comfort. BGC and other township developments are emerging "15-min. cities," a new-world model being pushed by the economic elite. Sure, these are nice "bubbles" in many respects but not at the expense of missing out on the wonders of nature and the more immense beauty (and benefits) of the countryside and wilderness areas. Time to venture out, Brian! You've been beating the BGC subject into a pulp.
I'm torn. What killed USA malls? Was it stupid Musak with Celine Deon playing on a Casio keyboard? Or The nail and weave store? Or a combination of all?
I'll let you in on a secret, the malls are owned by oligarchs who own the public electricity and water too. How do you think they afford all that AC? That's right they pass it on to us consumers, that's why electricity is very expensive here

It’s nice to go in even to fastfood places where employees are welcoming and respectful completely different from the US
there also a church in the mall. at this point the only missing in the mall is huge swimming pool small zoo exhibit lol
missing too is a funeral parlor l

Not just armed, some even have high calibers specifically the ones with banks.
@minnelcandelario6893 yes, my brother is also an SG, he's got a shotgun and a pistol and it's always loaded

Some malls in PH are sort of stratified according to demographics. and they have offerings/choices that you wont see in the upscale malls.
That just makes business sense.
@argasyargasy2366 yup makes stocking and costing as well as predictable sales much better
Your composition of your read out never fails...well thought of.❤😂
I've been to the S.M Malls in Philippines. They are centers for community. They are updated, BGC is a small city unto itself.
well you know brother those are just the piece of happiness here in the philippines. the main course is to have a family here. having kids and a loving wife. is the most rewarding part.
I love Philippine Malls❤❤

I enjoy just sitting in the malls and staring and combing all the pretty girls that pass by😅
Online shopping kills the mall.

Malls are ESSENTIALS in Philippine's. The heat, the rain, the traffic. Malls are a refuge LOL
It’s the same in South America it feels like the 80s very busy times
Here at SF where I leave the Westfield Mall (downtown) is under auction
To be fair, I love the thrift stores in USA. I see them on RUclips. It's almost impossible here with thrift stores and toys because most are small could be easily pickpocketed.
Amazon, Amazon, Amazon, and online shopping. The death of American Malls.

The sense of community is lost in the US. Philippines has a strong sense of community.

I grew up in Vegas and SoCal. The where OK 30 to 40 years ago.
Brian, hope you find your girl. You can find good ones in the province.

We all know why malls are dangerous ….
Stop noticing
America 🇺🇸 is in serious decline. 😢

Consumerism at its finest!
I'll let you in on a secret, the malls are owned by oligarchs who own the public electricity and water too. How do you think they afford all that AC? That's right they pass it on to us consumers, that's why electricity is very expensive here
Now my 15000 peso electric bill makes sense ⚡️
MAGA 🇺🇸
POV you’re still single in the Philippines and watching your money disappear
"Mall Rants"
Sir Brian,I'm not quite sure if you have mentioned that BGC is actually located in the city of Taguig.
