- My 2024 solo winter adventure series is starting now.
Although this is my 4th consecutive trip I have done in January, it's the first time riding to not only another country, but, a different continent!
Strap in for this one, folks. I promise you it's going to be a belter!
Oh, and little disclaimer, as the title says; please don't try and do this first bit at home. I am me, and you are you.
Cheers all. I hope you enjoy it!
Let's go!

Total madness, glad you've made it OK a bit silly in my opinion, fatigue is a killer
Yeah I agree, it would be bad enough in a car but on a bike that’s lethal. Not worth the risk at all.
@@TheNecroFrog Agree, actually totally f ing irresponsible
Glad your puncture repair held up and great to meet you on the train.
Thank you very much for your super quick assistance, David! Hope you boys had a great trip, too?
@@RichyVida Yes bit colder and muddy than yours back a bit earlier too, but great fun. Thanks Dave
The biking community. Love it. 👍🏼
Am so wanting to do this before my bowel cancer shite gets worse. A want to goto Morocco then into Mauritania to the eye of the Sahara.
Safe travels mate wishing you all the best from Scotland
Do it, my friend.
@@RichyVida problem a have is not working buddy on disability atm 🙄 so cash is tight af but defo be doing it one day
good luck with that mate, iam doing it the other way around, open heart surgery and small intestien cancer and off in 3 weeks with the overland van and just bought a 313 rallyraid gs to go on the back. Best wishes for the future and stay strong in the dark moments. Drop me a line if you want to talk owt through it helps
Steve
I cannot imagine riding that long and in those conditions! I had to chuckle when you were saying about the security checks for inward to North Africa. Pity there isn't the same security for inwards from North Africa to Europe! 🤔
Richy, you is the man, no question. We all live and learn. As you said, never again. You mean too much to too many people. To ride safe, for all of us, we need to factor in rest. I don't mean to lecture, but, I am a nurse, and sometimes we just gotta say it like it is. Looking forward to the remainder of the videos.
I've been that tired, sadly on many occasions! It's dead dangerous when it doesn't feel real but you KNOW you are moving and not in a movie!! I'm watching this, so you must have survived...
Yep. All good 👍
@@RichyVidaNo,not all good Richy. You are such an irresponsible prat for attempting this. You have a family and you are their primary support giver. Why would you risk your life and their futures so irresponsibly by doing this?
A total prat who doesn’t have the brains to recognise what a prat he is. So sad.
When I saw the title I thought "ah, bloody clickbait" but wowee, that is really something you don't want to try at home. Glad you made it safe and I can continue watching the series
Great to see you on tour again Rich 👏 looking forward to watching your adventures on this trip 😊
Love it Richy. I followed your updates on Instagram and now I’m living myself into your journey. Looking forward to EP2.
Awesome Richy ❤ living vicariously through your adventures ❤
Great vlog Richy. Looking forward to the rest of the series 👍
I’ve been looking forward to this since your trip. Great watch and looking forward to the rest dude!
Way to go! Puncture, lost, off roading and that's just the beginning - total respect and well done. I look forward to what happens next.
Once again, you inspire me pal, what a great video. Sadly I dont have my ATAS DCT anymore, but given the 1000 miles I did whilst commuting to and doing the NC 500 last year I can see how its the perfect bike for your latest adventure. Love DCT. Glad you made it to NA and now as you said the adventure really begins. I am in two minds after watching EP1 whether to adopt the norm which is wait until all episodes are up and binge the bloody lot, but going off the first episode I dont think I can wait. Great viewing excellent narration and I'm looking forward to doing some slightly smaller adventures of my own this coming season. take it easy and be safe. Lee
Awesome. Thank You for sharing.
wow, absolutely fantastic Richy. looking forward to the next enthralling episode mate
Hi Richy, greta video, looking forward to seeing your adventure.
Epic ride Richy...riding those back lanes at night and having to keep faith in your Sat Nav...blimey! Look forward to seeing the next episode. Cheers, Steve
All these years watching all your tours rich, Don't think i have ever seen you so tired and broken, what a great 1st episode!
These'll be fun! I'm looking forward to the upcoming episodes.
Epic, nice one mate. Can’t wait to see these vids
Fantastic first episode, I was getting excited for you as you was boarding the ferry need to get back to Morocco myself looking forward to part 2👍
Just lovely! Just bloody lovely, That is some going, I thought my old army days of driving back from Germany to the UK 640 miles was a fair distance!😃
Perfect bike for the journey! Looking forward to next episode👍
Wow what an adventure looking forward to the next episode Richly 👍👍👍
I've been waiting for this year's solo trip videos to drop. Can't wait to see how it goes. I've watched the first 3 many times. Thanks Richy!
Thanks very much. Hope it doesn’t disappoint!
Quality ! Looking forward to the others 👌
During the midnight off-track excursion, I too was spooked, expecting a ghost to jump out from the church. Glad you arrived in Spain
Interesting - thanks for sharing.
Been looking forward to this,so far all I've got to say Is WOW.😮
There are thousands of places in the uk for me to visit. I finished with going abroad nearly 20 years ago and do not miss it. Best thing about going abroad was coming home.
I’m do love coming home just as much as heading out into the unknown
@@RichyVida keep these videos coming fellow viffer. Never mind me being grumpy as my Mrs calls me.
There is So many places better than in the UK. Way better. I cannot wait to get my police pension and I’m off, then I won’t have the crappy feeling of coming g back home
Wow what an upload 😮Well done Richy😎 Back in September last year, a mate and I took a wrong turn in a very similar way in France, which then meant our TomTom’s routed us in a weird loop to get us back to the motorway, but fortunately not through farmers fields 😂
You are a complete Insane BEAST! Well done and glad you got there in one piece. Insanity at its best but a great watch👍🏻
Brilliant trip Richy so far !!! A nightmare start with the nail in rear tyre , the sat nav taking you a merry dance 😁😁 34hrs !!!! Yer mad 👍👍👍 Great stuff .👍
Epic start.👍
Well done Richy. As an iron butt rider I under stand and felt for you on that long ride. Micro sleeps can help but not everyone can do that. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the trip.
Struth! You make the Iron Butts mob look soft!! Amazing effort. Bril vid. Lookin forward to the next instalment. Cheers Rich.
Great first episode. Looking forward to the rest Rich
Nice one Rich 👍
Simply amazing 👍🏼
Oh, Richy! 😀👏 The Big Winter Trip! You have planned so well. (34 hour first leg😮🤔) oh well, I didn’t have to do it. I can’t Wait for the rest of it! 🫡 Stay safe, have fun, be well!
Oh. Switch off…. The end of part one. So far so good… great stuff Richy..
Looking forwards to the next one.
But make sure you catch up on ya sleep… 👍👍👍👍
Forgot to say. Great planning… even thought there was the off road miss app… 👍👍👍
Epic! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Back in 77 I left St Tropez in the morning and rode all day and all night and got to Calais by 7am. Got the ferry to Dover. By about 1pm I was falling asleep on the motorway near Birmingham. Had a sleep on the grass for an hour in a service area and was home in Stockport about 4pm.
Mega
Simply Fantastic Rich!!👌👌🏴
Absolutley brilliant
Epic trip
And the detour .........I would have been weeping like a baby , can't wait for the next episode
I was close!
Great first episode. I would have been fuming riding down those dirt tracks at midnight. Well done on staying calm and getting back on the motorway.
Wow what a stint u put in , fair play not sure I could have even contemplated that , awesome job Rich,
Good luck on your adventure, that was crazy miles though. Be safe
What a "first day", that is some serious mileage, bloody mad for doing it in one go but fair play, you did it. I'd be walking like John Wayne for days if I tried that. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the series
Woke up early hours this morning. That'll do nicely Richy 👍
Wow that was epic,Respect.👍🏻
Hell of a stint Mr Vida. I was going to say I'm not sure I'd be up for a day and a half in the saddle but after due consideration I think it would be fairer to say 'feck that for a game of soldiers!!!'
Looking forward to the rest of the series pal.....I reckon it's going to be a belter. 👌
Hi Richy, that was brilliant. I have been looking forward to this solo winter adventure for a while. What possessed you to go that distance without stopping? Crazy but glad you are ok. Technically you have completed and iron butt challenge. unofficial well done looking forward to episode 2 😀
Well done Rich.. I was one who suggested "go south young man"
... Didn't expect this though... Many years ago I rode from Birmingham to Spain non stop on my hayabusa.. Killed me.. So well done my friend.. You did loads more than me
. Never attempted such mileage since.. Look forward to the next one.. Keep safe..
Yee f**king haa what a great start too your epic adventure, really looking forward too watching this series....Regards Glenn.👍👌
Rich , there's above and beyond the line of duty and then there's the first leg of your trek. Salute .
An epic first leg Rich. Glad you survived it! Bring on the rest buddy. Thank you👍
Oh god those backlanes around 11.45, spooked me like the 1978 aussie film, long weekend 😮. Gripping stuff.......if not grippy stuff haha
That’s some slog you did there rich. Cant wait for the rest of this series. From your insta stories it looked amazing.
What a journey that was and took a lot of guts to keep going at night down them muddy tracks well done Rich..
Fantastic first episode,I'm really looking forward to this adventure you are on. If you ever find yourself near Oxford I'd like to go for a pint and/or motorcycle ride.
Well done mate. .we all have to do that once, then never again. 👍
Nice one fella, as for the ride through France, yea been there got the video, what a ball ache!! I wouldn’t recommend the 30+ hrs non stop bit, but! …. The adventure begins🙏🏽😎
My God man.... That was just absolutely crazy!
Shocked at the distance you've just ridden richy but looking forward to following this tour. Ride safe(r) ! 😅
Rich looking forward to this trip , that was awesome ride better you than me, you’re instagram pics been amazing 😉
Looking forward to watching the adventure. That epic journey from the Channel Tunnel train to the ferry terminal does sound like a nightmare, definitely not a fun way to start the adventure.
Nice one 👍
Hey......nice one. All the best from CANADA!
Great first episode ...you have certainly pushed the boundaries...be careful though asl the road takes no prisoners
Epic trip, done the same but minus the 34 hour stint, 'cos that's a bit silly. Have a great trip, Morocco is fantastic!
The joys of sat nav. Glad you got there Richy that was a long slog👍🏻
Would have been horrendous WITHOUT a sat nav….using a map!?
Half an hour! Thank you 🙏
Absolutely brilliant that was a big ride the biggest iv ever done was 52 and I felt like death for a week after, really looking forward to the next episode mate 👍
Quality Rich excellent first episode. Nothing ventured nothing gained. 😂
Keep up the good work 👍
Absolutely fascinating trip, not least because this is the one trip above all that I am intending to do, in pretty much the same manner you have done it....with the exception of 1 extra overnight somewhere in Southern France...
Wow that was an insane trip down to Spain Richy look forward to your adventures in Morocco 👍
Did Morocco back in 2008 and thoroughly enjoyed it (all be it with a tour group and on the Black Stuff )
Look’n forward to this series Richy
I used to do a bit of courier driving and it was hard enough coming home at 11.30pm some night's, but what you did is insane 😱
Oh man! Cool!
Really enjoyable vid, truly impressed with your blast down to Spain, I've done a couple of overnight runs on the bike in Europe, once did 1300 Kilometres in one hit , 20 hours only stopping for fuel, food and toilet breaks , it was awesome and felt great, looking forward to seeing the next episode of your Moroccan Adventure.
Absolute bloody nutter. I salute you. That’s some teapot endurance right there….
Absolutely awesome, put a shift in to reap the rewards
FairPlay you’re absolutely nuts ,after getting through those lanes I would have looked for the nearest airport and left the bike and flown home😂😂looking forward too the next blog 💪🏍️
Haha brilliant
Enjoying this already mate. We're on shuttle end of July £60 each way. Won't be doing anymore than 300 miles in a day on my bike but i may give the podcast or audio book a go, top tip. Stay safe my friend and enjoy.
As a new biker I felt tired after 200 miles on my VFR a couple of days ago. Gradually getting the miles up to train myself in to covering longer rides, but this journey is incredible!
When I was doing training for the DAS, doing the six hours in the saddle for the Mod 2 preparation shattered me. Probably in part because it was mostly city riding in a city I don't live in, but still. It really is a learned tolerance.
Well done Iron Butt
Cheers for the video 👍💪🏻👌
Last long haul I did in one go was about 24 hrs to Spain in 99' en route to Morocco doing the first Varadero tour.
My co rider flashed me over when I started using up 3 lanes!
Having sleep apnea I now realise how important sleep is and how much it can effect the next days ride.
Stay safe
Richy, great beginning to this tour. I'm looking forward to the rest of it. I have a repair kit and a desert fox mini compressor its well worth buying not cheap at £50 but quality no issue inflating a flat tyre connects to a bike with no issue. Keep the vlogs coming they keep me smiling
Yes I've got a similar one, you'll see later in the series. Cheers!
Nice. You got the train. I suggested that for if you was going to Poland..
But nice one. I’m gonna take that as mine. You took my advice 👍 😂
Love it, green lanes in France on a Sunday at midnight…😁 you made it through mind, top lad 🤙 looking forwards to next instalment, shame we can’t binge watch but that would lessen the anticipation RV 💪👌
I’ve got to produce them all yet! A lot of work ahead 💪
That was needlessly reckless, so I'm going to unsubscribe now.
That trip through France is too much. especially from 'your' home. For me it's just not worth it. I live in Bergerac. I've done the trip to my mothers in Beaconsfield, Bucks and back a number of times in the car in one day with my wife co driving but I can't do it on my own anymore. I did it once on the bike and it nearly killed me. I've done 650 mile days in the past but 400 is my limit these days. UK to Southern France I allocate two days so i'm not completely ruined or about to fall off in the evening. On the road at 7am and travel until about 5pm. get going about 9am on day two and arrive around 2-3pm. I'm a bit older than you and worn out mind. Don't overdo it and stay safe. Have a great trip.
Good luck 👍
Top marks Rich, I've always dreamed of driving to Africa but the logistics of planning it have always put me off. You are giving me inspiration mate.
Sit tight. Let me know your thoughts at the end 👍
This "winter" trip is going to be epic.
I bet your morale sank when you spotted the puncture, but great repair. I'm impressed at the iron butt ride through France and into Spain.
Looking forward to how you find Morocco and the videos to come.
Thx for a great episode 1.
G.
No not really. I was on a mission!
Oh it’s going to be a good one. 👍
Went to Morocco in October, absolutely fabulous trip; feel a bit of a wimp now as used the Plymouth/Santander ferry to knock out France😂 Epic first day, looking forward to the rest of your adventure. Cheers, Andy.
