    RAW by itself cannot be used for any type of reproduction. It needs to be processed using a RAW processing software to an appropriate format suitable for your image destination. Popular format are TIFF, Jpeg and EPS. Adobe PSD is a format used for saving WIP files in Photoshop.

      An image scan from a film negative into RAW is like making a digital negative. most things are captured. Why is it that the film scanners of modern cinema rather scan in motion jpeg ? Is it because of the file size ?

    Another fantastic video... as always!
    I do not know if it has been mentioned yet, but another reason that I am excited to save my "digital negatives" (a.k.a. photo files) in the RAW format is that all of the additional information available in RAW files to current display devices (monitors, smartphones, tablets, etc.), presentation devices (printers) and current editing software (Lightroom, Photoshop, etc.) is only being put to use by the limitations of today's technology.
    As display devices and editing software continue to increase in sophistication and ability in the future I am excited to see what can be drawn out of those RAW files ("digital negatives") that is not being drawn out today. The more available information, the better. More actual, captured information will keep display devices and software from having to make as many computational guesses to fill in the holes.

    THIS IS THE BEST EXPLANATION I FOUND ON RUclips

  • @Carolyne_games
    @Carolyne_games 5 лет назад +20

    Great explanation, beautifully presented, thank you.
    I personally shoot jpeg most of the time, which my father likes to question (or even make fun of). The thing is, many good cameras shoot excellent jpeg, and in many cases we don’t really need the full control of the images provided by raw. In those cases, shooting jpeg saves memory space and saves time (for importing, quick adjusting and sharing). Some say raw+jpeg is the way to go, but that consumes even more battery and memory.
    Something I find interesting too is that some raw shooters I know tend to become lazier with the actual shooting as they get more experienced, because they get the illusion that with raw they can do anything post. For me that takes away something critical from the moment of taking the image.
    With most commercial use or difficult lighting though, raw is without a doubt the way to go :)

    • @SmallSpoonBrigade
      @SmallSpoonBrigade 2 года назад

      The correct answer is virtually always raw. If for some reason you don't need the raw file and the jpg was fine, you can always delete it. Even if you just use the embedded settings to process on the computer, you can use more powerful hardware to process the image differently. You can always change the amount of noise reduction and sharpness applied if you like.
      And yeah, the raw does take up a lot more space, but card space is cheap these days. This isn't 20 years ago when memory cards were small and expensive. A 32gb card isn't that expensive.

    I like your Videos very much. I am however a Canon user. I think the subject, Raw Vs Jpeg need not be debated . We can proceed on the basis that Raw, if the User knows how to process it, is superior. But what you demonstrated so well, requires, IMHO, no demonstration at at all, at least for most of us. Let me repeat, the Video itself is impeccable.God bless you.

      Raw+JPG is virtually always the right choice. There are a few situations where only one or the other makes sense, but they are rare. Or, to put it another way, raw+JPG is the right choice unless you have a specific reason to do something else.

    Thanks Radha Sir!! This certainly rests the case by justifying both RAW and JPEG based on the objective and ability of the shooter.
    I have always preferred to shoot in both RAW and JPEG (in highest resolution) simultaneously. Needless to mention this "may" pose a challenge of space and speed to many shooters, I personally have never found that as a challenge, with my 128gb cfast.
    And Radha Sir, I believe you wanted to say RAW instead of JPEG at 11.55...
