  • Rob and Clare embark on a historic renovation adventure as they dive into the daunting task of rewiring their 250-year-old farmhouse. Beginning with the Master bedroom and bathroom, they roll up their sleeves and embark on a meticulous journey of laying cables for lights, switches, smoke alarms, sockets, and ventilation, ensuring every detail is carefully attended to.
    Meanwhile, Clare takes viewers on a tour of the laundry room and barn setup, offering insights into their evolving homestead. With a knack for storytelling, she shares updates on the ongoing demolition of the Parlour, showcasing the transformation taking place within the old walls.
    As the day unfolds, Clare provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse into Rob's meticulous work in the Master bedroom and bathroom. However, no renovation journey is without its hiccups, and Clare candidly reveals a mistake made during the installation of the toilet, which required digging out and replacing to rectify.
    In the final moments, Rob puts the finishing touches on the plumbing in the Master bathroom remodel, demonstrating that sometimes, simple approaches yield the best results. Join us for an enlightening episode filled with renovation revelations and a deep dive into the heart of farmhouse restoration on their HomeStead in thenIrish countryside..

      The house I am living in now I bought cheap and had to renovate from the studs right through the whole house. Done all the interior with cedar

    Awww clementine is an absolute beauty! I love a chubby cat! Still so jealous of your barns! It’s all coming on nicely, it will be so nice for you to be able to see the wood for the trees (so to speak) by being able to get those couple of rooms cleared. Searching for tools?! Bane of our life, so much time wasted looking for something that it then makes you not want to bother doing the job when you do eventually find what you’re looking for. I don’t envy you at all Rob with that electrics job, not that I’d even attempt it but I know Ben would have liked to do ours. I know you were feeling a bit disillusioned in this one and I’m sure you’re feeling a bit better about it all now but it is hard work to keep going day after day and feeling like you want to sleep for an eternity.
    Congratulations on all the new subs, so very well deserved…you’ll hit 3000 so soon I have no doubt! ❤
    Not sure why this didn’t appear when I posted it so doing a quick edit to see if it appears now lol

    Keep it up guys, youre doing great 👍. Good weather is hopefully on the way and that'll keep your spirits up.
    Maybe consider losing the background music when you're talking, as I feel it's a little distracting.

    When repointing get your self a skinny wire brush avalable in most hardwares to gently rake out your lime mortar from between the piggery wall when it drys . Then a brush with a soft brush will bring the joints up lovely.

      Thank you for your help here. We have not Attempted any outdoor or indoor pointing yet, as we need to prioritize necessary areas for the grant. We will in time though get to this, so thank you

    Howdy, I have a suggestion for protecting your caravan during storms. Maybe someone else has also mentioned this? Here in Florida we get those nasty hurricanes. The winds can be frightening, so we park our vehicles around our, very tall, travel trailer. So far we have been blessed by doing this every year. Love all your videos. I’m impressed with your techniques. Are y’all limited to the number of outlets & switches per room?

    • @WestCorkWander
      @WestCorkWander  Месяц назад +1

      Yes, thank you for that comment. We actually have done this in the past, however at the moment the grass is so wet in the field, we were worried about getting the jeep stuck 😕 Fingers crossed we wont be living for too much longer in a field 🤣

    It still floors me that you all require the lightswitch on the *outside* of the bathroom, as well as no plugs on the inside. That's just so odd to me! (but that's the US, I guess!) If we had the lightswitch on the outside, there would be no end to the pranks being pulled by family members. It would drive me insane LOL

    • @WestCorkWander
      @WestCorkWander  Месяц назад +1

      Haha, that's good! I suppose we just want to see where we are going before we enter😂 I think plugs inside are kinda neccessary however I can understand how with water this can be dangerous 🙈

      @turtleslaw Месяц назад

      @@WestCorkWander I asked my husband (he works for a huge electrical company) and he thinks it might be because you all use 240V over there for your stuff. Over here everything is 120V - I guess that's the thing that you all allow inside the bathrooms as "shaver outlets" (I've heard them called) because they're only 120V. (Still blows me away!)

    • @waipirobay59
      @waipirobay59 Месяц назад +1

      We are 240 voltage in Australia and NZ and we have no restrictions in bathrooms. It was such a pain when I was living in the UK. 🙂

    Curious, you have solar. But based on your weather, that solar wouldn't be as productive as wind power. Thoughts?

    • @WestCorkWander
      @WestCorkWander  2 дня назад +1

      We would like to do both actually, but we were going to start with solar which we haven't bought yet, so there is a bit of research to be done yet on both! 🙂

    I get the never ending comment I’ve been full renovating for a couple of years, not to the extent that you’re doing and not as brave as you I got someone in to do the electrics and plumbing but coming to the end now, mist painting etc but just can’t get motivated to just move over the finishing line
