- OLD MAN MOON Hoagy Carmichael from the movie Topper (1937). Great sequence of club scenes featuring different versions of the song with Cary Grant and Constance Bennett and a cameo from Hoagy Carmichael playing the piano.

Style, !! something sadly missing in this day and age.
Definitely totally agree with you on that one
It's very dangerous to rest all of a sudden~
God, I will forever love this man. ;w;
So do I !!
I love this movie so much.
Always thought this had the best opening of a movie. Takes the same song and plays it so many different ways. Club scenes are awesome!
@@OTRHALLOWEENHOLIDAZE I also love the scene where Cary Grant is driving with his feet and singing The Old Oaken Bucket, which devolves into singing about Topper -- "Iron-bound Topper, the moss-covered Topper that hung in the well." That just slays me. Cary and Constance both sang very well. And, teamed with Hoagland, what more could you want?
@@iamfelixthecat7233 Yes! Such a great and underrated movie. So many memorable scenes.
One of the best scenes and so underrated
Old Man Moon wake up
'cause I've fallen in love
So spread the news to all the stars above
Shine for my baby while we're dancing tonight
and fill her tender eyes with love and dynamite
Old Man Moon put stardust in a bottle
of wine
just do your darndest to make sure that she'll be mine
and if it's possible to keep shining till noon
my sincerest thanks to you Old Man Moon
Ole Man Topper..ole man Cosmo...one ole old oak bucket....Cosmo Topper...
I love this scene and the music too. I love the way cary grant says "yeah" at the pianist. They look sooo cool, sexy and funny. Thanks!
Topper!!!! What a fabulous movie, refreshing, and surprisingly funny ❤️
Can you imagine some nut named Cosmo.
She could do it all... Drama, comedy... even musicals! (Check out "Moulin Rouge" (1934))...
You know, I think that Constance Bennett, no matter what you may think of her, was undeniably elegance personified.
Gentle George, deceitful george!
One of the best 5 minute opening of any movie!
I totally agree! I loved it so much! I felt that magic fades away soon later! : /
im gonna watch this movie. just because i saw these few scenes. plus, a cameo with hoagy. gotta see this one.
Just Terrific .⭐💕👍
Love Hoagy...he was so talented and came from "fertile jazz country" Indiana . I always love it when he shows up in old movies .
You just wonder how they just get it. Wish I had that gift. So much talent for growing up in the Midwest.
@@OTRHALLOWEENHOLIDAZE? "For growing up in tje mid-west?" What are you saying? Golden age Hollywood talent, came from all over, Mid-west supplied much of the talent.
- James Dean
- Betty White
- Carole Lombard
- Clark Gable
To name a few......
I love that movie nd I want that car.
That car is a classic and the movie!
Cosmo is a total riot. Billie Burke, Alan Mobray, Dagwood and others really make this 1937 classic and it's sequels damn funny.
Wonderful Scene ! 💖✨
Would love to go to all the places in this scene. Especially the one with the slide.
I love it, he wallops her in the head getting out of the car! The bandleader at the Rainbow Club waving his hand in a wild hello. Love the Hawaiian club with the slide entrance, ha. And finally Hoagy C at 2:40. Too fun! Thanks for the post. The Topper series is a hoot. :>)
Always thought it was a great movie on of my favorites!
Where's a way-back machine when you need one?
Ole Man Cosmo. Ole oaken Topper.
@zenfox6 Yeah, I Could Just Imagine Walking Into Some Of These Clubs Especially The One With The Slide HA!
Funny as hell movie and sequels
This and the Awful Truth have always been favorites of mine.
Hoagy Carmichael had a cameo in this movie and Cary Grant add-libbed at the end „Bye Hoagy“, as he had often done in his movies. It‘s not in the script…
Why did this get recommended to me? Enjoyed it.
Glad it did though. Thanks for taking the time to watch.
every dance band food group is in the first five minutes!!!
Do you have the original song? I'd love to hear it. I saw this movie today and fell in love as soon as I heard it!
wonderful time when People knew how to misbehave with style
@jazzworth The pianist is Hoagy Carmichael.
@TheStanbabe
Not sure have not found one or have seen one anywhere. I do have a recording posted from Woody Herman.
@TheStanbabe There are a couple of versions of this song on iTunes.
If I ever get married, it needs to be just like this or why bother
Resting,is the sort of thing, you've got to work up to gradually.
believe it or not i do this routine every nite
the Hawaiian guitar version is definitely the best...
Cary Grant was not a bad dancer, in a funky sort of way, What surprises me is the Topper of Lewis G Carroll (TV) is something of a befuddled buffoon, while Grant's Topper is something of a sophisticate.
Take a closer look. Cary Grant is not Topper in this movie. He is the ghost of George Kirby who, along with his ghostly wife, haunts Topper.
In both the TV version and the movie versions, Topper is the henpecked husband of a social climbing wife.
👍🤣😀
LOL TOPPER MOVIE 1937
That guy need to shut up. Messing up the song
+dizzyne420
I know, right? I wanna hear that damn song!
I thought he provided marvelous syncopation to the words, which I'm sure the director intended.
I am trying to find the version with the quartet
