Carmichael was a brilliant composer. His masterpiece, Stardust, is considered by many to be the most perfect popular song ever written. Its melody line spans three octaves and to this day is a challenge for the best vocalists. Here on RUclips check out the Johnny Carson show where Johnny Mathis takes a run at it, though poor orchestration diminishes the performance. It is my sense that if this song was introduced today to musical fans who were unaware of it, they would fall in love with it. Its musicality is timeless. If asked who from the boomer generation is today's Hoagy Carmichael, I would not hesitate to recommend Brian Wilson. Both men went through tough times, but their talent and loving family and friends saw them through.
Both Hoagy Carmichael biographies, published as one book, are very interesting. A view on the 1920 30's jazz, his student life, his friendship with another young musician named Bix.
Could've been a really nice doc but the crappy AI voice and lack of music made it barely bearable. I did learn the origin of his name, though... Fun Fact: Ian Fleming's original description of James Bonds' looks was said to resemble Hoagy Carmichael.
Yeah, agreed, except whoever produced this vid put many hours into it and was destined never to make a nickel. It's a labor of love and taught me things about Carmichael I was not aware of.
What a talent! Thanks for sharing this very informative video!
Hoagy and Bacall were the best part of To Have and Have Not. I loved his piano playing and the beats that he put to Am I Blue and How Little We Know.
He was a good talent he seems like a very nice person cool and calm. I love piano music ❤❤

Informative, but I had hoped for his actual music.
Then go to a RUclips channel that offers his music.
Rockin’ Chair was “covered” by Randy Newman in his award winning theme song to Monsters Inc. I’m not aware of any credit given to Hoagy.

Agree. I cannot listen to AI though. :(
It's just reading the wiki article too.
Woeful presentation. Had to switch off....😮

Well organized and presented - but the announcer seems like he is in a race. What's the hurry?
