The great Hoagy Carmichael ! One of James Taylor’s influences and favorite composer/players. Carmichael appeared in the Howard Hugh’s Noir Classic “ Las Vegas Story” as “Lucky”, a piano entertainer at the fictional downtown “Lucky” Casino backing up the beautiful torchy singer played by the sexiest woman of the late forties and throughout the fifties, Jane Russell. Victor Mature plays her love interest, as their saucy romance revolves around “Lucky”. Great film with classic Vegas locations preserved when it was just a whistle stop and Palm Springs kind of place in the fifties.
There is a book called THE STARDUST ROAD written by Mr. Carmichael and from that the writer, Adrian Mitchell wrote what has been called a "Jazz Play" entitled Hoagy, Bix and Bunkhaus.
Love his music. To watch him at the piano was so relaxing. He played as though he and the piano were attached. His hands just glided over the keys!
My mom's favorite song was stardust. She loved it.

He's also great in To Have & Have Not, & The Best Years of Our Lives. Nice, easy acting style. 🎹
I loved reading Fleming's description of Bond looking like Carmichael. Gave 007's character some additional depth.
Great songwriter.
