  • I have used this technique in several projects and I wanted to share that with you. It's a nice softbody trick. This is a part from my October tutorial on Patreon, so if you like that please support me there:

I don't know what's better: A refreshingly concise tutorial on Softbody Dynamics or Vincent's voice that's smooth as butter.

Awesome tut, but one thing to mention. 1:57 - For people who wonder why their strap goes thru the concrete instead of wraping to them, you need to choose "Apply tag to children" under Collision tab. If you group the concretes like the tutorial, you need to do this, otherwise you can also apply the collider tag to each of the concrete.

The collision deformer can fake this very well: place your cylinders inside of a Connect object, give the "cloth" a collision deformer, set to Inside (stretch), and drag the Connect into the Objects list. Shrink the cloth cylinder's radius down and it will nicely wrap around the 3 cylinders - no simulation required, and keeps your object parametric (way lighter on your system too)

In this case it would have worked, but softbody looks better, because you also have deformation in the rotation. Also softbody works way better in Animation: I had so many animation glitches with the collision deformer.

@@vincentschwenk totally. definitely specific to this scenario, collision deformer has a very narrow use case. looks good on faking draped cloth too, or an object pushing through a surface!
