  • Yet another practice session with YAMAHA DTXplorer w/ Addictive Drums. It is always nice to practice with some backing music where you can hear the bass laying out a groove, the guitar playing the main tune etc. rather than playing on a click track. Comments and questions are greatly appreciated as always. Cheers and enjoy!

@Em4Freak thanks. :) using the opportunity to practice some and get the gears going as today is a public holiday and don't have to go to work. :) congrats by the way on your new td12. very nice kit. waiting on your new video posts with it. cheers.

@slawter23 yes it does function very nicely with no defects as far as I am concerned like an original yamaha vinyl pad. you might want to do a little finetuning and adjustments first to properly use it as the sensitivity of the pad is different than the original. but bottomline is you can safely buy and use one on your yamaha. cheers

@frenstep hey! thanks for the question. well it depends, if you could have the pin of the original holder in a vertical position, yes but i choose to leave it as is and had my cowbell clamp that has a vertical pin, chewing on to it. hope that makes sense. :)

@MrMamurk i don't see why not. as pads are simply triggers and use pretty much the same technology regardless of the brand and make. the only issue you may come across may be the amount of zones the cymbal pads have for this model. yamaha dtxplorer has all single zone pads (not chokable for cymbals also) so I would suggest not to expect all the features that a roland module (brain) has to offer to function properly. but i am sure you would get the sound you desire. hope it makes sense.

@MrMamurk if you are able to purchase yamaha pads easier and with no wait i could recommend multiple zone cymbal pads from yamaha such as tp65s (to be used multi purpose as it is a drum pad originally) or the more expensive pcy135 cymbal pad. both supporting three zones. the advantage you will get with pcy135 is chokability i suppose as it is a cybal pad specifically. cheers

@audree1983 as for the latency issues, there could be a number of reasons from your cpu power to your ram speed or your latency settings on the fast track. or it could simply be due to your software settings or your drivers not being the correct fast track drivers. they could as well be outdated, that's another possibility so it is tricky to say therefore i would recommend futher research and reading over the net. hope this helps. cheers.

what kind of holder is used for the Rolland pad? Can you just use the original Yamaha snare holder?
    Thanks man

Does that Roland pad work well with the dtxplorer module, or does it have any defects? Just asking cos I'm thinkin of doing th same thing, but not sure

@tolgapala Sounds great!! I wonder if you can help me... :S I have exactly the same gear you have ( fast track pro usb, dt expolrer, addictives drums throught Sonar X1 ) but I'm having a hard time assignig the pads to the right keys and I'm also experiencing a _)*&?%$ latency that I can't get rid of :P Do you know what it could be? Thanks dude!!

@audree1983 hey there! apologies for the late reply. the pad setup not being the way it should be is a common issue with yammies. fortunately new versions of drum plugins have a learn function that could save your from the trouble. if you don't have the latest version of AD, then you would need to do it from scratch as unfortunately my drum maps would be less than useless to use with Sonar as i am using Cubase. you can however get the basic idea in one of my videos. check my channel.
