- Best DT Song, Enjoy.
I. The Crimson Sunrise
(Instrumental)
II. Innocence
I remember a time
My frail, virgin mind
watched the crimson sunrise
Imagined what it might find
Life was filled with wonder
I felt the warm wind blow
I must explore the boundaries
Transcend the depth of winter's snow
Innocence caressing me
I never felt so young before
There was so much life in me
Still I longed to search for more
But those days are gone now
Changed like a leaf on a tree
Blown away forever
into the cool autumn breeze
The snow has now fallen
and my sun's not so bright
I struggle to hold on
with the last of my might
In my den of inequity
viciousness and subtlety
struggle to ease the pain
struggle to find the sane
Ignorance surrounding me
I've never been so filled with fear
All my life's been drained from me
The end is drawing near....
III. Carpe Diem
'Carpe diem, seize the day'
I'll always remember
The chill of November
The news of the fall
The sounds in the hall
The clock on the wall ticking away
'Seize the Day'
I heard him say
Life will not always be this way
Look around
Hear the sounds
Cherish your life while you're still around
"Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying;
And this same flower that smiles today,
Tomorrow will be dying."
We can learn from the past
But those days are gone
We can hope for the future
But there may not be one
The words stuck in my mind
alive from what I've learned
I have to seize the day
To home I returned
Preparing for her flight
I held with all my might
Fearing my deepest fright
She walked into the night
She turned for one last look
She looked me in the eye
I said, 'I Love You...Good-bye'
"It's the most awful thing you'll
ever hear."
"If you're lying to me..."
"Oh, you dearly love her."
"...just have to leave... all our lives."
"Seize the day!"
"Something happened.
"Gather ye rosebuds while ye may."
"She was killed."
IV. The Darkest of Winters
(Instrumental)
V. Another World
So far or so it seems
All is lost with nothing fulfilled
Off the pages and a T.V. screen
Another world where nothing's true
Tripping through the life fantastic
Lose a step and never get up
Left alone with a cold blank stare
I feel like giving up
I was blinded by a paradise
Utopia high in the sky
A dream that only drowned me
Deep in sorrow, wondering why
Oh come let us adore him
Abuse and then ignore him
No matter what, don't let him be
Let's feed upon his misery
Then string him up for all the world to see
I'm sick of all you hypocrites
holding me at bay
And I don't need your sympathy
to get me through the day
Seasons change and so can I
Hold on boy, No time to cry
Untie these strings, I'm climbing down
I won't let them push me away
Oh come let us adore him
Abuse and then ignore him
No matter what, don't let him be
Let's feed upon his misery
Now it's time for them to deal with me
VI. The Inevitable Summer
(Instrumental)
VII. The Crimson Sunset
I'm much wiser now
A lifetime of memories
run through my head
They taught me how
for better or worse, alive or dead
I realize there's no turning back
Life goes on the offbeaten track
I sit down with my son
Set to see the Crimson Sunset
(Gather ye rosebuds while ye may)
Many years have come and gone
I've lived my life, but now must move on
(Gather ye rosebuds while ye may)
He is my only one
Now that my time has come
Now that my life is done
We look into the sun
'Seize the day and don't you cry,
Now it's time to say good-bye
Even though I'll be gone,
I will live on, live on.'
I've had this full video on my ipod for over 4 years and it is absolutely amazing. I really enjoy watching it. Its actually around 23mins long. A change of Seasons is actually made up of 4 parts representing the 4 seasons. The transitions are calculated so it sounds perfect. The fact that they go on for so long actually shows the huge amount of talent they've got. Some of them like James Labrie or John Petrucci have their own albums. But Mike Portnoy and John P r the ones behind the music writing.
DT did this one as a whole as the encore when I saw them for the first time. I still feel the same thrills I had that night each single time I hear it.
for me it's like a jewel I listen to on days I feel good, to make them perfect :)
one of my favorite songs. i hope they gonna play it on the next concert.
one of the most perfect musics of the history. DT rulz!
I miss the old Dream Theater. Ever since they released all 5 albums from 'Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence' to 'Black Clouds and Silver Linings', the style of technicality quickly deteriorated from the inventory passages from the first 5 albums to just redundant and aggressive patterns. I've very annoying and its not even progressive rock!!
Yep thank rudess for that..its just like a noise barage now cant even listen and relax to dream theater now..i loved them until their album falling into infinty..when rudess came into the picture, the subtle keyboard playing was changed to circus like playing..😒
LaBrie rules the world in this vid.
why it stops at 10:00?????????
this song is a masterpiece :)
10 people didn't change along with the seasons
I think Portnoy should write all they lyrics, and that Petrucci should be banned from writing anymore lyrics. Just my opinion. Oh, and Portnoy should be banned from 'screaming'. If you can't do it then don't try.
I got to Meet DT after a concert in Hollywood after their Awake Tour. What a bunch of nice Guys I got to take some Pictures & they signed one of my CDs. Thanks Fellas for making this Female Fan Happy.
@qqryq90 its a referance to geddy lee of rush who used to do it for no perticular reason every person has what many call is an internal pulse to keep the beat or rythem woth out having to play
@saphisto its a referance to geddy lee of rush who used to do it for no perticular reason every person has what many call is an internal pulse to keep the beat or rythem woth out having to play
if you people like this, you would love real prog with actual polyrhythms, harmonies and experimentation... the melodies and riffs in this song are totally dull...
James is perfect! This was a period where I feel he began to learn how to overcome his voice limitations.
Gorgeous...if only he sang like this today.
1. commercials is the only source of revenue for youtube, without them you would either pay for watching the video or youtube would shut down. 2. usually when users uploaded the videos they weren't music videos and had poor quality. 3. Info on the right or bottom, does it seriously matter, same thing with the stars and the yellow subscribe button. 4. Actually youtube was never controlled by the users. 5. I'm pretty sure youtube doesn't read top comments, and they definitely don't care.
perfect dream theater setlist!!! (not really taking into account how long the concert might end up)
in no particular order...
1-hollow years extended
2-The count of tuscany
3-The best of times
4-Change of seasons
5-Another day
6-Space dye vest
7-Voices
8-Take the time
9-As i am
10-Scarred
11-scenes from a memory(THE WHOLE THING!!!)
12-in the name of god
13- Forsaken
14- Endless sacrifice....
ITS GOING TO BE THE BEST CONCERT EVER!!!
That's your opinion. if it really progressed, how come they use the alot of the patterns from the last 5 albums that are redundant? Especially when you're listening to the 12 step suite, they use the same arrangments that are used from song after song. for example listen to 'this dying soul' and 'repentance', same pattern, just additional note structures to finish the song. I'm not going to dictate what they compose. Who am I, i'm just a fan with an opinion like you.
About this rule... i guess that they just also are putting effort onto their own pieces of work. The band has been going for so long, they also have their own stuff going on individually, so it is understandable. Fortunately enough they still play together as a band and give us these amazing performances that even though some ppl dont know how to appreciate, they are actually great to listen to.
Watching this makes me think Mangini will never last with DT. As good of a fit he may be, no one is Portnoy. I see the Mangini experiment lasting an album or two. Then Portnoy will have his head pulled out of his ass (and probably have an excuse of rehab or something). Then make his triumphant return.
Yeah.. the band has this rule that the lyrics has to fit the music they've allready made because it's less work. And that's why Myung backed off with his writing (read it on wiki :P). And that's the only stupid thing with the band IMO. They don't want to put more effort in making songs with myungs lyrics, when he has written some of their best lyrics.
I just started listening to them last week and i feel the same way mate. A friend of mine recomended them months ago and i did`nt really bother with them. I could kick myself now! I said this on another dream theater video and i stand by it, a band like this should never be short sold! It`s just my opinion but i think they are too good to be ignored.
He doesn't sound like this anymore because he's got older, the voice gets affected by age.
He's now what 46, and he's been singing as a career for over 20 years. His voice has lasted for a long time and now its getting old and 'tired'. So what he's still a brilliant singer.
I thought that they couldn't top the studio recording
but this performance tops them all. Amazing solos from everyone.Luv how they added the Ragtime piano brk, Simpsons brk
and the Baseball brk. crazy kool. This is from their
Metropolis 2000 DVD.You gotta hear this in 5.1
it's sick.
Yeah, Dream Theater is one of the best bands ever to compose music! I've been a big fan of them for many years and if you're just starting to listen to them, you're gonna love the rest of their music, it range so far and if you can go see them live when you can, they're awesome live!!
Thats really sad that happens. ;/ The same thing happens to me and it makes me wonder how oblivious to good things people really are.
this songs 23minutes long my friend but they have been known to make it last around 40minutes live haha i saw these on friday live !!
@VanishingDigital Derek didn't left after A Change of Seasons, he left after Falling Into Infinity. And what do you mean with he didn't play any concerts with them? He played quite a few concerts in those four years he spent with the band.
@lienqwe Just go buy their concert DVD's man. Trying to find a torrent of it is like taking a shit in one hand and getting the song in the other and trying to see which one fills up faster. You'd be better off just buying the concert DVD's
of course no one is ever "right" based on opinion. didn't we all learn that in 2nd grade when we got worksheets on distinguishing between fact and opinion. that doesn't really need be stated. and i agree with you both. on the "my favorite" part.
I agree, I think it sounds great. That sharp, somewhat percussive attack he achieves when he hits the strings hard like that is really great sounding. I've tried to get the same sound when I play bass, but it just doesn't work, haha.
@vaxkors95 this shit began slowly but surely when google bought jewtube
holy shit!!! omg, this is the first time i checked DT. this band rocks. and omg how long does this song goes? instrumental, insane long lyrics, then instrumental again.... O_O this is so insane!!! 6/5 * !!!! awsome...
The other day I was with God and his cell phone rang with this song as ringtone, after the conversation I asked to him:
-who was it?
-That´s was Mike Portnoy begging me to return to Dream Theater...
a firend just showed me this band and................................... wow!!!! they're too good, its amzing i can't believe i wasted 15 years of my life listening to other shit
Yeah, after his vocal rupture he said that it wasn't an over night change but that his voice would randomly not cooperate and other times would be just like before the accident.
They're okay, but the lyrics on Count of Tuscany basically failed for me. The music was fantastic though . . .
This can make even a grown man cry. I remember the first time i heard this song. It's beautiful and always leaves you with a surreal feeling every time I listen to it.
Thats a Portnoy thing the head boink!!
on certain bassdrum hits he likes to do that.He will also spin the sticks throw them in the air and catch them.Thats mad skills!!!
I just started listening to them last year and I feel kinda bad because my brother tried getting me into them around 5 years ago. I didn't know what I was missing. :P
i love this ..... PETRUCCI SOUND .... i love this song , fuck , i love this band ........ i was 17 when i heard this song . just blew my mind away
portnoy and petrucci = pure awesomeness, to bad portnoy is helping sevenfold out, its like casting pearls before swines, no offense to the a7x fans.
"Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying;
And this same flower that smiles today,
Tomorrow will be dying."
THIS IS POETRY :D
He sounds awesome nowadays. His voice has returned to him in an even better quality than before.
I meet people everyday that if the topic of music comes up and I say dream theater I normally get "who???" in response and that's a real shame
Yeah, they're the best band ever! =P I just want to listen to a new John Myung song sometime :P Also i wanna hear some more Labrie lyrics
cant belive so much fucking talent on the same stage..... they play with amazing naturally all those terrfic songs... fucking amazing...
Notice how much passion Portnoy has for playing this song? For those of us who didn't know, this song is for his late mother.
Jame voice is incredible in this vid, wish he still sung as good as this as he does now. 9:10 - 9:26 holy crap, impressive :O
how the eff do you even come up with a song like this in your head, let alone remember the whole thing and play it?! Amazing
D.Theater are the best band on the planet, and Rush is the best band of the Galaxy...
the battery in mouse gone empty right after i clicked this video, as if god wanted me to watch this holy peace of music :)
People's hands would get tired. But I'd play through it.
maybe when he has nothing to do with his hand he hits his head to keep the rythm :P
labrie was a better live singer back then, not that he still is u can just tell a huge difference when he sings live
I completey agree with you, but I paste that comment and I didn't thought of anything I said at the time, lol...
I have a version that lasts 20 min but it's too long for youtube.
i try to upload it even if i have to cut it.
why they can't write songs like this now !!!????
well, is a masterpiece, the best progressive rock song !!!
heheh so damn right (: that's what happens when you're learning in Berkley
@T7Champ
...Or maybe he has failed to stop you but this song is in his ipod so maybe i'm wrong as well...
There's more music in this one song, than some bands put out in 2-3 CD's.... Absolutely fantastic stuff.
@Senshishuri listen to A nightmare to Remember, In the prescense of enemies or The count of Tuscany DUDE
@theemokyd They will be and you are :P everyone is gonna be wrong/right when it comes to your own taste ^^
my favourite part is definitely at 2:43 when they break into a 17/8 (2,2,3,2,2,3,3) rhythm, fuking AWESOME!
Me too, but Myung has written some of their best songs! Just look at Learning to Live and Trial of Tears!
is it just me or the tempo is a little faster than the studio version on the intro?
I love this song :D
what bass did myung use here? is it also musicman? it looks better than the bongo that he uses nowadays imo
Dream Theatre is the best prog rock band ever...
they were a bunch of genius musicians...
salutes 'em...
Damn... too bad they can't put the whole song on here, the solo to Part V: Another World is beautiful.
another series of pointless and stupid comments lol
YEAH, it's my opinion , and a fact as well
MAGIC
yeah i can see. i like live permormance more then studio versions though:D these guys are totaly pros
do you all realise, that we are not going to see mike with dt anymore?
i disliked the video by mistake, but its ok cos i liked it again and it got rid of my dislike.
damn labrie sounds awesome here! whatever happened to his voice? he doesn't sound like this now
One of the top-rated songs of my own rock list. Respect form Ukraine
musica para gente ineligente presenta:
Pos estos dioses y su gustada cancion de 35 minutos ja ja es broma genial seee...
carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero
spem longam reseces. dum loquimur, fugerit invida
I love Mike Portnoy from the bottom of my heart ! Damn, fuck, hell, he will be SO MISSED !!!
They are pretty much gods. I said "I Love you... Good-bye" moment is so intense, amazing!
I think its Portnoy who comes up with the lyrics... but for most times its a team effort!!
I can easily listen to this over and over and never get bored of it, such a good song
@ThenextPetrucci Me too. But I would prefer If they played Octavarium.. my fav song!
@TheMaidenfan555 No idea why you have so many thumbs up man lol. Thats just weird...
That first note Myung plays makes me come.
@vaxkors95 remeber when u had to buy an album to hear songs?
Mike Portnoy is a legened, and i hope he's success in his life, even out of DT =]
A Change of Seasons = Eargasm, seriously.... To think human beings made this..
I would seriously cry of joy if they are going to play this on the next tour!
@WalkerTony aCoS- 1989. They published it on 1995, but it was made on the '89
Its has lyrics, this is only part of the song try listening to the rest of it
The riff at 1:35 is exactly the same as Burzum's main riff on the song "War".
what pickups does John Myung use in this particular bass?
@DemsDaBrakes1996 well if it wasnt for rush, dream theater would not be here
they came to my town twice this summer and I didn't get to go see them gahhh
@TubasherTim Funk that would be hard. The timing is soo hard to get around
@TheDrummerman95 I made that comment a long time ago... I was a kid... xD
i hope they will play this song in munich june 23th
it's one of my faves
