    Love to see mention of Eddie Cochran. I've been a fan of his for decades, but it's rare to hear his name even mentioned any more.

    Yes tab out the solo or at least teach it to me in our next lesson. Would rather listen to Gatton and Setzer over Malmsteen any day of the week.

    When I first picked up a guitar my tutor asked me if I'd heard of Danny Gatton... I hadn't and he said that he was like "Scotty Moore on speed"!!! Pretty good description. He also said he'd seen Gatton in a bar in New Orleans and left the bar wanting to throw his own guitars in the river because he realised he'd never get close!! :)

      Danny Gatton’s playing is nothing short of intimidating! As I mention, his sound is huge which really contributed to that! The licks are somehow often actually almost easier than they sound, but matching his intensity is another thing! Cheers Athel.. oh and good description regarding Scotty Moore on speed!

    Just wanted to stop and say that I really enjoy these videos where you talk about these other great guitar players & discuss what makes them tick.

    Danny Gatton was a complete guitarist he was not limited to playing one style with all due respect to rock a Billy he was much deeper with a vast harmonic knowledge. He could play a pair of shoe laces and make it sound better than most guitarists.

    After one becomes a "star" (successful), from that point on, there are no more mistakes or bad-playing, it all becomes "innovation" or "study cases". 😆Thanks for sharing.

      Hahaha that’s so true!! I thought years ago if you want to sound like a legend you gotta think like a legend, in other words, just assume people are hanging off every note you play, right or wrong lol!

    Saw him many times , In the DC area everybody is influenced by gatton , his bandmates are still playing all the time.

    My favorite Danny story is when he was playing with another DC area guitarist at some club, and the other guitarist played a lick that caught Danny’s ear. All while playing, Danny asked the other guitarist to play the lick again, and when he did, Gatton doubled the lick in perfect harmony.

    Don't worry Adrian. I agree.
    A famous gun slinger once said, "Its better to be faster at being slow and accurate"...or something like that. Danny puts 6lbs of $hit in a 5lbs sack. But Brian's 5lbs can be heard, it breathes and its commercial music. Danny was a bar room beast. So technical and fast that it became a side show. Danny's the best, but Brian presents a show that Danny couldn't.

      I think that’s fair to say, at the end of their day they both just do their thing and people will respond in their own way! It really doesn’t matter. As guitarits and music enthusiasts we are blessed for having them both!

      I say to students, it’s not all about complexity, people like all kinds of things and it’s like a good meal, some like a steak and chips, some like risotto! Music is the same :)

    I always thought, Danny Gatton- more technical than Brian
    But Brian - had what Brian has. 😅the reason why I believe we all love rockabilly at this day and age.

    Most evolved player? An argument could be made that Danny Gatton was the best guitarist ever! Who knows what heights he could of hit! Unfortunately, the music industry wouldn't embrace him early on and mid-way thru his career and that stalled his career. But in all fairness, Gatton didn't like touring or being on the road and that definitely hurt his career too! Exceptional talent, mediocre career!

    • @AdrianWhyte
      @AdrianWhyte  4 месяца назад

      This was actually insightful when I read it, I can relate to that fact with Danny, I play around a bit but with 2 young kids touring is not my favourite idea!
