Don't really need a damp course on a garden wall. But it's always good to put x3 blues on to stop rising damp and the facing bricks blowing during the freeze thaw cycles
Thank you very much buddy appreciate it! To be fair, with it only being 6 course I wasnt too worried about it..especially being 9 intch with the 3 pillars:) Thanks for the support Wayne 😄🍻🍻👍
Bet that's satisfying to complete! Super neat. I'm not looking at being a bricklayer as a job necessarily, but would like to learn for fun, wonder if there are any short courses for diy
Haha your right it is satisfying once it's done! You could probably take a course, but you could most likely learn everything you need to know here on youtube mate! In a few weeks I'm going to a small series on how to lay bricks mate! So if your interested, stick about😊😄 Cheers for the comment buddy, have a good weekend 🍻😊
Hi Izzy, great channel, can I ask you a couple of ques please? What blocks did you use, and was the bed 10mm or more? Did you tie the 2 courses together? What is the purpose of the middle pier, just aesthetics? And what would you usually use to get rid of muck smears - brick acid or something?
Hi mate! First, thank you, really pleased your enjoying the channel😁 The blocks for 7 Newton concretes The bed was more than 10mm. Think it was closer to 20mm. This allowed me to get over any high spots in the footings. Yes I used wall ties to tie both skins together, but not really important on such a small wall. And yes, just to make the wall have a bit more character 👌👍 I always use acid to clean up any muck stains. Water it down. 1 part acid, 4 parts water in a bucket. Hose the wall down. Then apply the 1to4 mix with a brush. Wait for a couple of minutes. Agitate the acid mix on the wall with a hard bristle brush. Hose or jetwash off👌👌👌 Cheers mate!
@@IzzytheBrickyChrist, I wouldn’t a Brickie to do that for less than a grand where I live. I have some work to do and am looking to do it myself. Your video was very good 👍
Yea I didn't like how the pillars were flush at the front. I told the bloke (who's an architect) to have the pillars 100mm out on the front..but he wasnt having it 😂😂He wouldn't listen haha
@@realcheat4252 good lad! Love to see your getting into it. Honestly mate in 2 years you'll be smashing it...I was late to the game too, started at 20 on the trowel..so not far off your age :) keep at it and you'll be there in no time 👍👍🍻😊
Thank you very much buddy! And probably not. Pic and dip is only good when your on site work and the compo is perfect, otherwise I’d stick to doing it the normal way which ensures full perps and a better build. Like I say I use pic and dip on dogshit site stuff but private’s and my own house I’d use the normal method
@@IzzytheBricky Its going great! Getting merit and distinction levels in all my exams including my brick 'n' blockwork assessments, so I'm definetly heading In the correct direction. I have a strong passion for bricklaying, I must say without a doubt!😁👍👌
Nice job.....I like the two different color bricks..... and the finish with slate and soldiers
Nice, clean design. Beautifully executed.

Hi mate lovely looking wall, if the footing was stepped to accommodate a slope would you start laying from the top or bottom ?
Always lay from the top down bro

That's some sharp flaunching. Very neat. Not tempted to put a tie to two between the skins? (Granted it's not that high). Lovely job though.

Hi Izzy, get work mate. Can I ask how deep and wide was the footing for wall and piers please. Keep up the good work.
I mate! The footing was 600mm deep and was 600mm wide☺️
Tidy work pal nice one 👍🏻🧱🧱🧱🧱
Thank you very much mate!😊😁
3-1 mix or 4-1 ?
That will give stu A run for his money tidy Job mate
😂😉 cheers mate appreciate it
That looks great 👍
What would the price for that be all in?
Lovely job! I've just applied for an apprenticeship in bricklaying and curious to know how much you could earn on a private job like this sort?
Thank you very much! Brilliant to hear, wish you all the best! For something like this you could charge about 600 quite easily
@@IzzytheBrickyChrist, I wouldn’t a Brickie to do that for less than a grand where I live. I have some work to do and am looking to do it myself. Your video was very good 👍
How much you charge for this to be built
Around New York USA I find cored brick always end up failing with freeze thaw cycles when used as a cap brick.
How much you charge for that
Love the work mate, wondering what depth footing you used for the wall?
Ayup mate it's probably about a 450mm deep footing. Nothing major as it's only a small wall😉
Great work mate. One question what did you use to get the mortar stains off the brickwork with?
Cheers Barry, we gave it a quick jetwash when we put the drive down😁
@@IzzytheBricky Oh right lovely job mate👍
Nice, but it looks a bit odd with the pillars being flush to the front with the tiles sticking out, the other side looks correct, right?

Good luck with marines
clean engineerings with ( what I was taught as city and guilds, so no longer allowed, paraffin,) hessian or fibreglass insulation
Yea seen that some many times:) seen a few old boys use diesel before
plz forget pic n dip its a myth

Agree with you mate👍🍻
Personally not a fan of pic & dip on small domestics like this one. I save the "lazy method" (what my old man calls it) for sh!te site work!
Agree with you really mate..found myself being much neater not using the "lazy method"👍😂👌
P&D works better on more absorbent brick but can work good on most anything it could end up being slower on bricks that are not very absorbent.
Don't lay one brick then level and plumb it. Lay entire course then level and plumb. Time wasted.
