I’m the man that owns the basic 2014 LC model. Even the dealer said he had never ordered a basic model for a customer before. 6 years on, no regrets. Ignorance is bliss. Great video, many thanks.
This is most comprehensive! As a new 2015 GSA owner; Thank you! You know the dude is legit when he has a laptop on his bike! lol! As a new rider, I will NOT plug in my pro plug. - For now ;)
At last a clear and understandable explanation of what all these modes consist in, I mean the differences between Dynamic/Enduro and Dynamic Pro/Enduro Pro. Very interesting to hear also that the little connector for the Pro modes should be plugged-in all the time, since the Pro settings can be customised. Many thanks for your video. I guess lots of BMW dealers could learn from you !
Ian, that was a very helpful explanation. I just bought my first BMW 1200 GS last night and needed to try and figure out all the information because there was no owners manual and all my previous bikes were basically mechanical (manual settings) with little to no electronic user interfaces. Great channel, by the way.
Thanks for this, just bought a new off the dealer floor 2019 R1250GS and it is exciting to learn about all the rider aids. I really appreciate hearing from people that ride these bikes regularly. My brother just bought a KTM 790 Adventure R, so we're both big fans of your channel.
Although I don't own a BMW, this video is a good general education for a rider who is new to electronic technologies on modern motorcycles. All my bikes are older, pre-electronic era. So, as I'm out shopping for a new bike, the jargon and concepts are challenging. This video explained the basics for me. Thanks you!
Superb video, dispelling myths and misunderstandings. This is not what my dealership told me regarding the pro plug! They said all that it does is give you options to change settings, they did not say that simply plugging it in actively changes some of the settings.
Great job. You should go to work for BMW. I just spent $25,000 on a top-of-the-line bike, and I had to go searching for a rational explanation of how it works! A fellow inmate on advrider turned me onto your video. Thanks again.
Thanks for this video. First time I understand differences between enduro an enduro pro. I will try the pro mode next week during a off-roadtrip through the French Alps. ✌️
Thanks very much Ian, I've been following your vids for quite a while, since I got my 07 oilhead. Thanks to your detailed explanation of all the various model changes, and the fact I was hever a lover of the dry clutch ( let alone the need to replce one ! ) I've recently swapped to a 2015 TE and what a great move ( IMO ) enough techno to be useful, without destroying the basic motorcycling ethos. Great to, to understand what the hell all these various mode do ! So, thanks again, great vids as always, I'm off to Plug my Pluh In 😃 Cheers Roj UK
Really wish you'd update this for the newer TFT bikes (before you ditch yours) and especially showing (physically) how to access and adjust each setting.
Thanks for this video I have had my gs for 2 years and I had messed with my dynamic pro but I never thought about changing my enduro pro settings. I run in enduro pro mode so I can lock the back wheel but I run anakee adventures so not what that setting was designed for, I think I’ll change the dtc option to enduro and see how I like it, I’ve never had a problem stepping the thing out to far but a safety net could be helpful to my confidence level
Nice review. Here the idea for future videos: it would be nice to hear your opinion about the differences GS vs GS adventure. How to choose between GS and GSA? I tried to sit on GSA once and it looks like a heavy piece of Goldwing. Although I never tried to ride GSA. Regular GS looks like more capable for me
The GSA has a lot more wind protection it's feels alot bigger with the 30L tank I think it is also a little taller but does have a low seat setting. As for the weight of the bike it's nice having 30L of fuel for a long highway ride but if I'm only out for a few hours having some fun the bike isn't really that much heavier with 15L of fuel in the tank 👍 It work for me
Hello. I don't understand one more thing. The diferent between DESA and mode. In my Ducati MTS Enduro, for example I’m riding normal route, my bike set TOURING (road), am closing to a tweasty mountain road, changing the mode to SPORT (Dynamic) with one click and the bike changes all the characteristics including the hardest suspension. The same in back- sport - road. All change, also suspenson on normal. In the BMW should I click ESA on Dynamic, and mode on Dynamic ?
Why does TPM only work when you get moving? I had a Kymco AK550 and it came on with the bike powering up. It's annoying because I want to know if my tires need air BEFORE I get down the road.
Thx for the video Ian, I just sold my 2014 Multistrada that I couldn’t even set the clock on and picked up a 2017 GS so this is very helpful. I have a question you may be able to help with….I can change the ride modes with the ride mode switch on the right hand cluster, and I can change the suspension settings on the left hand cluster….Now the question; Do these act independently? Ride mode separate from suspension modes…. Thanks Robyn One of your regular viewers and subscribers also in Southern California
A couple comments/questions. First about ABS on gravel roads, which you called “dangerous”. I get that on technical trails you don’t want abs intervening When you are trying to avoid trail obstacles or a drop off or loose downhills. But for just cruising long miles on flat or graded gravel I think it’s great. If a car comes around a blind turn on the wrong side you can just clamp the brakes and stop. It’s saved me a few times. Second, I totally agree that BMW. needs more than just two traction settings for off road. KTM’s 9 like on my 790 is more than necessary, but just one more setting in the middle would be great. My GS really struggles on up hill wash board because of the ATC intervention on std enduro, but I don’t really like the full enduro Pro ATC because I want a bit more intervention. Third, what level of knobby do you thing Enduro pro is calibrated for? Like a 20/80 level knobby or more like a mitas e-07 or Karoo 3 type tire.
Great video. I have noticed the tire pressure difference between my tire gage and the BMW tire pressure monitor on my 1250 gs. There is usually a 2 psi difference. So when I am checking my tire pressure for the day, do I want to rely on what my tire pressure gage says or what the monitoring system says for an accurate pressure reading?
Adam Behnen I have the same issue. Corresponding indicated pressures on the TFT read higher than actual gauge readings. I’m used to that now and use the TFT reading as a guide during a trip to see if I have pressure loss indicating a slow puncture. I only trust my manual tyre pressure reading....
Excellent video. Starting to understand all the electronics. Just bought 2022 R1250 GSA I was wondering how I would know if I already have the plug-in installed ? This GSA seems to have everything already. Also you displayed charts. We’re do I go to see them ? Thanks for your help.
One of the best review i have ever seen. But i have a question : I have a GSA 2017LC, with the pro mode and i don't find all the pro modes you are talking about in the set up...
All these modes are complicated and you've given me some good tips on how to use them, thanks. Two things, though. First, on my late year 2016 with the enduro pro plug in, that mode is added to the suite. I can select enduro or enduro plus. Second, Don't understand the concept of the pressure sensor variability by temperature. Sure, the pressure in your tires changes with temperature. As the temperature changes the air in your tires contracts or expands and its being inescapable causes the tire pressure to go up or down. You may need to air up in the winter to achieve the recommended pressure and down in the summer but pressure is pressure.
Hello Ian grate video as always. The tyre pressure sensor do you go off what is on the bike or the gauge? I noticed the difference on my R1250 GSA and took it back to the Dealer as my R1200GSA was alway correct with my gauge the Dealer couldn't explain why. Thank you for solving my 18months of thinking my bike was broken 👍
Very comprehensive and informative, assuming the plug is an option but if that’s not the case what’s the logic behind separating Pro Modes from default modes ?
This is a great video! I'm in the market for a 1200GS. How do I tell a model has ASC or DTC. I'd like DTC, but how do I know it has one or the other? The icons used on the handle bar and the display are the same...
So did I understand you to say that the LC bikes did not get the Pro riding modes and the Dynamic traction control and Lean Sensitive ABS until 2017? And that also the plug in Dongle didn't appear until 2017 as well?
I’ve just used enduro off-road.You’ve convinced me to use enduro pro. I have 33 psi in front and rear both off and on road.I just leave there, and it does pretty good for all around riding.Do you think I should lower the psi off-road a bit? If so, how low should I get?
Great video. Do you know how much lower the bike is on the 1250 when you put on minimum? I know the 2021 GSA seat height is 890mm so wondering how much it will help with my footing (I’m 5’11) when carrying a passenger. Not yet comfortable so looking at my seat options at the moment and wondering how much ESA will help. Thanks
My 2019 GAS has the TFT and yours are the analog instruments, and I take it, there really is no difference 1200 & 1250 except in the engine shift cam & +50 cc, however are the riding & suspension modes electronics are the same? thanks for sharing

Hi Ian, thank you so much for this video! I have a new 2021 R2150GSA (coming from an R1100RT) and the owners manual offers almost no real explanation of what the different modes mean. Great video thanks for explaining everything in detail 👍👍
So to wheelie really high up, it sounds like enduro pro mode ?
Excellent presentation
Glad you liked it
Thank you very much from Malaysia for the explanation.
There is a big difference between DTC in road and enduro. Enduro mode allows way more wheel spin before intervention.
For some reason I don't see dynamic pro as an option....I do have Enduro pro
Thanks for the information I was wondering if you knew the seat hight with the suspension at its lowest and seat at its lowest on a standard gsa
Great video. I have noticed the tire pressure difference between my tire gage and the BMW tire pressure monitor on my 1250 gs. There is usually a 2 psi difference. The plug was for bikes pre-2019. You have all the modes factory. What chart are you talking about?
Does the regular non te model have DTC ?
One of the best review i have ever seen. But i have a question : I have a GSA 2017LC, with the pro mode and i don't find all the pro modes you are talking about in the set up...
do you have the pro plug installed?
@@BigRockMoto Yes i do, but i just have enduro pro, not dynamic pro...
Can you run the lowest suspencion setting all the time for shorter riders??
Yes.
One consideration: the low setting may make it difficult to deploy the side stand if you’re not on level ground.
