Woodturning - The Youthful Eucalyptus
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 16 окт 2021
- In this video we decided to have a go at some freshly cut Eucalyptus, it had only been cut down a couple of days prior so this was more of an experiment to see how Eucalyptus with 70%+ moisture content would hold up after being turned.. safe to say it's cracking and warping a little as expected!

Loved both the journey and result
Thanks very much
Beautiful ❣️ Don't know that I've ever seen eucalyptus turned before.👍
Thanks Dwayne! I haven’t seen much turned either to be honest
The wood really nice, good thing it was fresh. Dried eucalyptus is really hard on the tools. Your project came out really nice brother
Thanks mate
What a beauty!
Thanks very much!
ماشاء الله تبارك الرحمن تسلم ايدك عمل جميل جدا تحياتي لك من فلسطين غزه
سلمت من المملكة المتحدة يا صديقي! اتمنى ان تكون بخير
Heck yeah brother looking beautiful
Thanks Cookie! Hope you’re doing well!
Velvety beauty. You did a wonderful job in bringing the life back out of the cut tree. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks very much Donna!
Just received a pile of fresh cut eucalyptus. Good alternative to turning a wet bowl!
Very true Valerie!
Lovely and the Eucalyptus is really nice!
Thanks Carol! Hope you’re well
Very nice.
Nice one Ian it's a beautiful potpourri pot thanks for sharing👍👍👍👍
Cheers Radar! Hope you’re well mate
I'm in love with your talent and creativity. This is gorgeous! I looked forward to Sundays because I can't wait to see what you have done for the week.
Thanks very much Kim! I appreciate your support as always.

Beautiful
Thank you very much
Hi Ian, you can turn wet wood just the same as dried wood, the only difference will be when the wood dries out you may get splitting. So simple and yet elegant a Eucalyptus pewter. Thanks for sharing
You are quite right Jim! Thanks for your comment mate.
'Some' splitting… bad news about eucalyptus…
Nice, you make it look so easy.
Thank you very much!
Wow Ian this one came out really shiny :)
Thanks Ella! Hope you’re well
Very lovely piece
Thanks Judith!
Hello Mac
Super belle boite 👌
Thanks Damien!
Hi Ian great looking bowl you made like the different colours of wood it has. Another great video camera person you did good too 😊. Looking forward to your next project 👍
Thanks Jean! Hope you’re doing well!
@@IanMacWoodturning yeah we are fine thanks hope you and family are all OK looking forward to your next video 😊👍
So talented
Thanks Hugh!
Great work Ian! Sometimes you’ve got to experiment a little haha
Thanks Ben!
I love Eucalyptus. Next time I will make something from trunk of one of my Eucalyptus trees.
You’ll have to show us the results mate!
Yes, with pleasure, but it needs some time. 😉
Here you can see a past project:

Some days ago I made rings from Eucalyptus.
Nice piece Ian well done 👍
Thanks Barry!
Lovely work mate 👍
Thanks Paul!
Великолепное дерево для обработки! 👍
Beautiful...
Thanks Mary!
Nice woodturning video, Ian.
Thanks Terrance!
@@IanMacWoodturning You're welcome.
Verynice .kerajinan yang bagus di tangan seorang yang profesional .slam dari #masjabrikdiy
Nice one Ian! I scored a load of Eucalyptus last week. First end grain piece I roughed out has cracked quite badly as it is drying. Cheers, Dave
Haha I remember seeing that on Instagram Dave! Yeah I think they’re going to take a good while to dry but you have to have a play with a few pieces just to check mate 😂
@@IanMacWoodturning Yep, rude not to have a go! Worth experimenting as I've not seen a lot on turning wet end grain bowls for the best results. The cookies are too thin to do anything but end grain bowls in the main.
Hi Ian I am a new wood turner what do you do to get rid of tear out I don’t have much hardwood around here.
Hey Ron, the best way to avoid tear out would be making sure you use sharp tools!
Nice
Thanks Brad
Itu cocok untuk menaruh apa pak
Itu akan menjadi pot untuk bunga kering dan sebagainya.. Yah itu akan retak karena kayunya sangat basah haha
@@IanMacWoodturning sayang sekali ya pak kayu masih basah
Very nice...
Thanks!
Hey mate hope you're well! I just got my hands on a sh1t ton of Eucalyptus wood - is it nice to turn - dry out okay etc? Interested to hear your opinion on it!
Hey mate, I'll be honest the drying for the Eucalyptus I had was a pain, almost all of it has fallen apart haha, I probably could've done better with the sealing though, the turning isn't too bad, it's pretty hard though.
@@IanMacWoodturning cheers mate - I think I’ll pre cut my blanks out of it and season it for ages before turning 👍
At 5:00 are you working on the wrong side of the bowl? Or is the lathe running in reverse?
Sorry I'm new to turning and want to understand, maybe it's just the camera angle.
Love the video and the finished piece
You are correct, I find it a bit easier to work on the inside when the lathe is in reverse as I can see what I'm doing a little better, thanks for your comment mate. Hope you had a nice Christmas!
Ver y good
Thanks Hugo
Was that the Sorbey multi-tip hollower?
It’s a crown tools hollowing tool
That looks fantastic Ian. Whenever I have turned Eucalyptus it always cracks very badly. Any ideas? Take care mate. Cheers, Huw
Thanks Huw! This piece has definitely cracked and moved a little but it was only cut down last week and this was more of a test to see how freshly cut eucalyptus reacts haha, I’ll have to wait for it to dry a bit and then have a go 😂 cheers mate.
@@IanMacWoodturning I would love to know what happens. Can you let me know?
👍
нам бы такие крышечки.👌
Hey this would’ve smelled fantastic…
Certainly smelled fresh 😂 it was cut down the week prior!
Another technically sound design disaster. Think how much more elegant this vessel would be if it were a sphere raised off the table with a foot
That sounds awful mate, terrible idea.
