Was a bad year for us. Good on bombers for making the finals. We just couldn't fill the holes created by injuries to our key players. Gilham, Croad, Dew, Williams, Young, Ladson, Ellis & Robbie Campbell all from the premiership team and didn't even play half a season that year. Also Crawford retiring hurt us a bit.
I'll take it though, because since then we have filled those holes and we'll take the cup home this year.

Michael Hurley will be some player in the coming years. Great season by Essendon, disappointing loss to Adelaide in the sense of the margin but still a great year.

You know whats even better? Seeing Carlton absolutely demolish Essendon recently and on top of that have Andrew Walker with the mark of the year in the same game.
@luvinlife33 They've been hit hard with injury. With Hurley out they don't have their power forward and rely on their ruck rovers for tall options, they're missing a LOT of polish in the midfield without Hocking, Winderlich, Dempsey, Watson. Was Dyson even playing? No Gumbleton yet, no Tayte Pears... They'll be back in force a game of 2 after the bye, which is much needed. They did well to match it with a competitive Richmond outfit that belted Freo by 8 goals.
@Balthic- at least our coach didn't get saked and we made the finals this year.
Did he say Essendon would win, or did he say he thought they were a chance and then gave reason for why?
Adelaide are no joke though. 47 shots on goal the week prior. They are as good a chance as anyone.
well done, was at the game and boy did hurley turn it on!! can play any end of the ground, should have put some more clips of hurley in there :P i know there was alot mroe things he did throughtout the game that created goals but it doesnt matter, cause the best one was on the boundary where he fell over, did a 180, went to have a shot, side stepped, passed it off and we scored (y) keep up the work

It is official the since hawthorns establishment it had been the most sucessful club in the AFL.
And yes bombers have got 16 premierships and congrats but that ss expected from one of the oldest clubs in the AFL, you've got 50 odd years on hawthorn you SHOULD have more. Not to mention you played in the league with sub par teams that have since disbanded, back in those days there were only 3/4 others teams to contend with.
I'll always love Ricky Dyson, that guy stood true when it counted.

michael hurley didn't put essendon into the finals, that sniper Matthew Lloyd put essendon in the finals after bumping sewell. That's not on.
@Diggles24 immaterial, they did what I wanted them to and for that I thank them. And the Bombers have a great song to listen to when they win (as long as it isn't against Geelong).

This history stuff is over-rated. We didn't have a guy named James Hird playing for us friday night. Adelaide were worthy favorites that night and beat us fair and square.
Adelaide are a much better side than Freo and Melbourne were back then. Plus we had a fella named James Hird.

since winning their first flag hawks have won an average 1 every 5 years... they have been the most dominant team of the past 5 decades, thats fact. why not laugh at the dogs who havent won in 57 years? or the saints 1 out of 112 years? or demons over 45 years? or dockers whove never been close? both teams have had glory many times so enjoy the fact heartedly. personally i think hawks are closer to another flag ATM then dons, just opionion. and btw i go for the roos :) 4 out of 85 lol :)

yeh I would have done a full match highlights clip but I could only watch the last quarter. So that is basically why I have only got final term highlights there.

@rob45012 haha you said i failed you could not be more wrong. Bombers played first game against carlton in 1873 whereas Hawks didnt enter VFL unitl 1925, thats 52 years difference. Bombers have won 16 premierships in 137 years making their actual average 8.56 years between premierships. Hawks have won 10 in 85 making their average 8.5 and therefore better than the bombers average even if it is by .06. That is FACT. I got this info from bombers and hawks website.

Yes a 5-goal victory was a thumping seeing as Hawthorn didn't fire a shot after the Cats put 4 goals on the board in 4 minutes in the third quarter. And actually Hawthorn opened as the betting favorites in 2011, 2012 and 2013 (I got Geelong to win the flag at 13-1 in February). And you call us cocky but you keep going on about a fluke Grand Final win against us and have done stuff all since? You will need someone else to beat the Cats for you to win a flag, that is what's hilarious.
