Those were the days.
I'll never forget the moment this song was playing on our flight back home from Iraq to Cali in '06 as all 130+ of us Marines sang along word for word at the top of our lungs as the plane made its descent returning us home to American soil; it was a moment of pure joy and one I'll never forget. Listening to this song 16 years later it brought an enormous smile to my face, this song definitely has a special place in my heart. Thank you for this song guys!

In 2018, I travelled from Germany to California and took the album with me. We rented a car, we drove down highway 1 and listened to this song while driving. Exactly in this moment when we saw the ocean for the first time, the line „looking out for number 1“ came up. This was one of the greatest moments in my whole life! 😢❤❤❤

Before going out with the friends playing soccer or whatever there were those catchy tune that stayed in your head.. So even miles away from you people feel the same way
First concert ever when I was like 8 years old was No Doubt and Blink182 and these guys opened the show. This the first song I remember ever hearing live. ✝️🕊✝️🕊
This feels like a road trip before the end of my adolescence. You know it’s ending and just taking everything with your friends in the car. That comfortable silence of basking in those California sunsets. Next thing you know you’re living somewhere else and no other place will be as special as California.

This song was one of the reasons I wanted to come to California and USA, a childhood dream. As soon as I got my driver’s license, I drove on 101 to Hollywood ..... truly blessed to be in CA🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Born into a military family is the only reason I left my home state of California but now I’m back and 21 years old. A lot has changed when I left but I’m not going anywhere because I’m finally home.🥳🥳🥳 #i’mbackhome
I'm Moroccan heard this song 20 years ago , used to play it every monring had in a cassette recorded from Mtv , now I'm listening to it from Texas (my new home ) , same feeling but even better .
Man, as a guy in his late 30's this hits on a lot of levels. Nostalgia for the freedom and simplicity of your teens and 20's. Just going out with your boys on a bus and seeing the sites, eating iffy food, taking joy in simple things. Try that when your older.
You still felt free in your 20s? I’m jealous. I’m 27 and I haven’t felt young or free in ages. It’s been all work, school, build a house and repeat. I can’t even remember the last time I felt care free and young. 20 or 21 was the last time I felt like I was ok to just be and exist, since then I’ve only felt the weight of adult responsibility. I did end up building my own home after paying off my student debt, and I’m working on a second degree, yet I always feel like I’m somehow behind in life. I can never relax or enjoy myself because I always have this sense that I should be in someway furthering my self and status. I’m not shitting on your comment. I honestly think it’s wonderful that you were able to enjoy your twenties. I feel like I wasted them striving for something that will always be out of my reach. I really hope I don’t wake up 25 years from now and think about how I wasted my youth worrying about my future.
@@sspsp6545 I hear ya. I did say in my original comment "teens and 20's" cause like you, I had responsibilities too, in my early 20's I had a wife who had issues, who I had to take care of, college, working 2-3 jobs at the same time, responsibilities, etc. I will say, while I don't know you, don't know how old you are, but if you don't have children, take a sec to enjoy what you have worked so hard to earn. I had a little period while I was leaving my ex-wife, and before I got serious with my current wife, where I was able to enjoy that. Its not the same as the freedom of your teens and 20s, in some ways its better, to say take a week vacation or a weekend trip somewhere, get lost in the culture, you can do that when your older and established if you don't have overwhelming responsibilities like a young family. I have a sense of anxiety about stuff too, mine is cause of the great recession and covid recessions that I have lived through, and making sure all my stuff is in order. But do take time to enjoy it. I am not saying be a selfish asshole that neglects or hurts others, but remember, you only live once, you only have vibrant youth once, father time is undefeated, try to find the balance of living your life to the fullest now, with a solid future as well. Good luck to you.
@@sspsp6545 I know that feeling exactly. 32 now… stuck in your head. Not sure if you’re making the right decision. Don’t even know what you want from life. Moved away from my home (CA) about 20 years ago, some places further than others. This song takes me back and makes me feel like I'm home again for a few minutes.❤
I’m from the north east but listening to this song while riding down the PCH on my motorcycle was a life changing moment and I will never forget that feeling.
I came to Northern Virginia about a year ago. Tried to live here. I've been totally homesick. Going back in a couple days to stay. I can truly say, I love Cali. The weather, the beaches, the peeps, everything. Can't wait! The best State. Miss home
Lucky to be living in California, say whatever you want about this place but California has oozes so much energy; a feeling that everything is possible even if it is not but you always finish on a high note.
This was one of those songs that would randomly come on the radio as I rode to the beach with my dad as a kid. Now I’m all grown up with my own apartment. I just want that simple life again
It's being an "age" that we miss. Not the decade, etc. It was simpler when we were kids, teens, or young adults. But, that's regardless of what decade or years it was. I'm Gen X... 55 y.o. It's a bit disheartening when my friends say that it was better in the 70s and 80s. It wasn't. Our childhood and youth was 'better', more care-free. "Life" was NOT for the adults. Same/similar stresses as adults today. [Less ominous threat of all-out nuclear war with the USSR, though. So, that's nice.] RFK quote [NOT "RFK Jr" the kook running for 2024]: *_"There are people in every time and every land who want to stop history in its tracks. They fear the future, mistrust the present, and invoke the security of a comfortable past which, in fact, never existed._* [yeah, I'm gonna be the realist and crap on the thread... truly sorry.] The past as a kid/teen is not an accurate picture of what that reality was, though. More accurately, you long for how it felt to be a kid. Not the period of time. Ask your parents, and grandparents, if you still have them. They'll say the same thing as you... they think they miss how it was in the [insert decade[s] here] but they really miss how it felt to be a kid, teen or young adult, before 'adult' responsibilities and awareness of the tragic or unjust parts of life played a larger role in our view of life. All that said... 100% keep listening to your favorite music from the past!!!! And the new stuff, too! 🤘
I’ve never lived in California literally but since I was a young kid, I’ve lived there through music, movies, tv shows, sports, pictures, vacations, and in dreams of living in a mansion by the beach. That’s got to be why this feels so nostalgic to us non-Californians.
I played this song while moving to California in 2015. Although I’ve moved since, this song always brings me back to that time on the freeway driving through Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona before arriving home.
My family has this tradition whenever we cross cali borders to go see family we blast this song out. I lived in cali for 13 years before moving. Fun tradition
Its 2021 and all I want to do is to transport myself back to the early 2000s. I mean I am fucking only 20 and still I feel those were the best days! Love THE OC !
2010 - I drove home to California from having spent the previous 3.5 years in Iraq, Kansas, Georgia, and Kentucky for Uncle Sam. This song gave me a serious case of the home sickness every time I listened to it when I was away, but it also welcomed me back when I crossed the state line on the interstate. One chapter of life completed, another one about to be revisited...
I miss the 2000s, that was the most fun time to be alive. Sure every kid has a phone now and stuff but we were so free and could get away with having so much more fun! These days everything is so much more complicated 😪
it's not a good thing that Now every kid has a phone. it would be ok if Phone were the same we had back in the day.. just calling, texting and Snake...

2012 I arrived at San Diego airport an 18 year old from Dayton Ohio, flew in alone had nothing but a backpack and a c bag with my uniform, a couple of poko shirts my favorite buckeye and Penguins jerseysst, and a picture of my mother.... literally being able to be young Marine in So-Cal was the best experience of my life. When i got to my unit, i had three Cali boys in my squad one from Chino Hills, one from Menifee, one from Riverside. I knew nothing about what real California was they took me to Newport, Huntington Beach, and even Dana point. To be honest the best part of California was being able to go back to their homes....two are latino one's white. And they wondered why I was so polite....and I told them im just from a small town outside of Dayton Ohio. Every of the three responses "Ooh i haven't heard of Dayton, or Phillipsburg.". Cali gets a bad rep but to be honest Cali Girls are unbelievable (not the Hollywood but I mean the real Cali girls 🫡 thank you so much.
This song pushes me to get my impossible dream. For me, California in this song is not just a place but a goal you have a burning desire to achieve no matter what it takes. Here's to 2021, happy holidays everyone!
You can but it's quite expensive and people here can be rude and there's a lot of crime and homelessness, we have really hot summers, and a water crisis.
This song encapsulates California in 2002--20 years is a long time. California is radically different from when this song was written celebrating it. It's kind of a wasteland now.
This song brings back memories! :D Edit: Drove cross country to California. The moment I got over the state line and the GPS said "Welcome to California" I had to throw this song on.
I used to play this song on background and play gta vice city when i was little, now this song brings back all those happy nostalgic memorjes. Good ol' days

That's awesome! This song gives me soo many nostalgia vibes.
Congratulations to your brother 🥳
Watching The OC?
Jason Schwartzman has had the ultimate indie cool career
This is the only legit comment on here...most have to google the name and try to put it together. Fuckabees
West coast by coconut records if you like this.
Indie? The guy comes from a legendary Hollywood family lol, he's awesome and does great shit but his career was never indie.

the O.C. !!!
Moved away from my home (CA) about 20 years ago, some places further than others. This song takes me back and makes me feel like I'm home again for a few minutes.❤
This song is a nostalgia overload for me. I’ve missed the bay terribly ever since I moved away as a kid back in 09
It’s gone to shit (literally) so don’t feel too bad 😉
BEST...ROAD...TRIP.....SONG....EVER!!!
Proof that even when we came into the 21st century, we still had artists with amazing talent
I’m from the north east but listening to this song while riding down the PCH on my motorcycle was a life changing moment and I will never forget that feeling.
Omg this is my Childhood
Homosapiens Wow, your childhood must of sucked then!

Still the best intro song to a show ever, together with the Smallville one...early 2000s teen dramas were perfection
I'm going to California in a few days for the first time I'm honestly excited and can't wait to listen to this on the plane
singing this from my little AL heart. I'll get there one day
I came to Northern Virginia about a year ago. Tried to live here. I've been totally homesick. Going back in a couple days to stay. I can truly say, I love Cali. The weather, the beaches, the peeps, everything. Can't wait! The best State. Miss home
Ryan atwood and cohen, everytime I hear this song It reminds me instantly to the oc intro
I haven't heard this in ages. The nostalgia is real
Lucky to be living in California, say whatever you want about this place but California has oozes so much energy; a feeling that everything is possible even if it is not but you always finish on a high note.
Omg pure nostalgia, take me back to the year 2000 for one day 🥲
This was one of those songs that would randomly come on the radio as I rode to the beach with my dad as a kid.
Now I’m all grown up with my own apartment. I just want that simple life again
It's too late in the day for that life. I get you. 100%
I wish for that life, every second of every day
Same here im finally living here in cali❤❤❤ west coast
It's being an "age" that we miss. Not the decade, etc. It was simpler when we were kids, teens, or young adults. But, that's regardless of what decade or years it was. I'm Gen X... 55 y.o. It's a bit disheartening when my friends say that it was better in the 70s and 80s. It wasn't. Our childhood and youth was 'better', more care-free. "Life" was NOT for the adults. Same/similar stresses as adults today. [Less ominous threat of all-out nuclear war with the USSR, though. So, that's nice.]
RFK quote [NOT "RFK Jr" the kook running for 2024]: *_"There are people in every time and every land who want to stop history in its tracks. They fear the future, mistrust the present, and invoke the security of a comfortable past which, in fact, never existed._*
[yeah, I'm gonna be the realist and crap on the thread... truly sorry.] The past as a kid/teen is not an accurate picture of what that reality was, though.
this song is the definition of nostalgia
I’ve never lived in California literally but since I was a young kid, I’ve lived there through music, movies, tv shows, sports, pictures, vacations, and in dreams of living in a mansion by the beach. That’s got to be why this feels so nostalgic to us non-Californians.
I played this song while moving to California in 2015. Although I’ve moved since, this song always brings me back to that time on the freeway driving through Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona before arriving home.
I never watched The OC and I'm not American but heck, nostalgia
I think it was a big hit in the UK
The american Skins with less mdma :v
It was really dramatic and a teen soap opera, but we loved it lol.
It was very famous in Italy too
My family has this tradition whenever we cross cali borders to go see family we blast this song out. I lived in cali for 13 years before moving. Fun tradition
that is son fun!
This song is always in my head. Makes me dream of a Californian life I’ve never lived. Always passing through.
The O.C.
Its 2021 and all I want to do is to transport myself back to the early 2000s. I mean I am fucking only 20 and still I feel those were the best days! Love THE OC !
As an elder millinial.
Yes.
You'd be a baby
Me too
Me too
Best years ever
2010 - I drove home to California from having spent the previous 3.5 years in Iraq, Kansas, Georgia, and Kentucky for Uncle Sam. This song gave me a serious case of the home sickness every time I listened to it when I was away, but it also welcomed me back when I crossed the state line on the interstate. One chapter of life completed, another one about to be revisited...
Thank you for your service and god bless America and god bless you. Salute
I’m not even American but respect for your service man
Thanks, brother. Appreciate you.
Your fault if you were dumb enough to join the military.
Wow, they sent you to Kansas? I'm so sorry for your loss
As a Californian I love this song so much .
Me too haha. It brings a chill to my spine everytime I hear it, fuck the 2000s was an awesome time to be alive in Cali
Most kids had phones when I was in elementary school (2001-2005), at least when I was in 3rd and 4th grade.
THIS SONG MAKES ME FEEL NOSTALGIC AS I HAVE BEEN TO CALIFORNIA OR IF I WAS BORN THERE THOUGH I'VE NEVER BEEN THERE.Really wanna go there.😊
i was looking for this song for years, and now i find it
same
This song captures a moment in time, a moment now gone, perfectly.
There's quite nothing like how nostalgic songs make you time travel back to an exact memory, place, feeling, smell, and experience. Just timeless 🖤
the O.C. que nostalgia! T_T

You are in for a treat. Season one is the best by far.
On season 2 now, season 1 really tugged the emotions haha
NewtChonk I cried when Marissa died 💔😟
Most find the song due to the show. Kinda fun to see the other way around
Driving down Big Bear mountain this weekend and this song came on. I got choked up. Leaving Cali in the mid 2000's was the worst mistake we ever made.
Thats embarrassing
This song brings back memories! :D
Edit: Drove cross country to California. The moment I got over the state line and the GPS said "Welcome to California" I had to throw this song on.
I used to play this song on background and play gta vice city when i was little, now this song brings back all those happy nostalgic memorjes. Good ol' days

Driving back from Indiana to California for the holidays. This song resonates so well.
Lyrics
We've been on the run
Driving in the sun
Looking out for number one
California here we come
Right back where we started from
Hustlers grab your *guns
Your shadow weighs a ton
Driving down the 101
California here we come
Right back where we started from
California (California)
Here we come!
On the stereo
Listen as we go
Nothing's gonna stop me now
California here we come
Right back where we started from
Pedal to the floor
Thinkin' of the roar
Gotta get us to the show
California here we come
Right back where we started from
California (California)
Here we come!
California, California
Here we come, oh oh
California, California
Here we come!
California, California
Here we come!
California, California
Here we come!
California, California
Here we come!
Best O.C series.
I found so much good music watching one of my fav shows, the O.C.; takes me back.
I am Italian and i love my country and my city (Rome) but i have always dreamed of visiting California. It is one of the most beautiful places on the planet in my opinion. I started watching the OC only because on television I had accidentally heard this song in the theme song and it was so beautiful that it made me want to watch the series
Italy and California have very similar terrain, when I went to Italy it felt like home, beautiful place 🎰
@@mlopez6129 I am very happy that you liked Italy, we are a much smaller country than yours but we also have beautiful cities like Rome, Venice, Florence and many others. I hope one day to visit your country too
