I too used to write to aircraft companies when I was about 9, and always got loads of material sent back. They were brilliant in the early 90s. No website or wiki article could make up for that over-sized envelope of joy they sent back. Once upon a time I did 5 hours PUT at Blackpool, and I've done a few hours in flexwings around Lancs, but never managed to solo. Thanks for the vids - seeing my neck of the woods from the air again has rekindled that desire to fly... 3-axis. :)
Treefrog X Hi and thanks for your message. Yeah it was amazing how generous some companies were, and I'm sure still are. It was a good lesson in letter writing too! Glad you enjoy the vids. I'm hoping to add an external camera at some point to get some nice shots of the ground. You should definitely get back in a 3 axis if you can. It's so much fun! Thanks again for watching. Rory
Nick Sutton thanks Nick. A bit more chat and banter on this one. I'm trying to mix up the more technical flying ones with some more chatty fun ones. I'm interested to know what people prefer?
Steve Openshaw thanks Steve. Caernarfon was superb and I can’t wait to go back. The return over Snowdon was ace too. That video should be up by Monday I hope.
James Starkie thanks James. It was fun taking Leanne up because we have a great laugh together. I'm trying to mix up videos like this with more technical stuff.
Yes it's all good. It's wonderful seeing the skies of the North West from a different perspective, and being a bit of an aviation geek myself I find it all interesting. So, thank you!
James Starkie great - well I'll keep filming and try to keep it interesting. I'd love to mound a camera under the wing so I can get a good look at the ground.
From what I have been taught, it is the same in the UK. They are not allowed to speak over the radio, either. Of course, if your passenger holds a licence and is approved for that type of aircraft, then they are permitted to take the controls. Having said that, a lot of pilots do allow their non-pilot passengers a sneaky moment or two of stick-time and I've never heard of anyone being done for it. From a safety point of view, I would argue that it is a good thing to have your passenger be able to maintain straight-and-level flight and manoeuvre the aircraft - In the event of pilot-incapacitation, you want your passenger to be able to keep the aircraft in the air and call for help and assistance in getting back on the ground, safely. Some schools offer what they call "ICE Training" (In Case of Emergency) for people who are going to be regular passengers (such as the spouse of a pilot).
stewud thanks very much! It's from a company called 'design 4 pilots' and I think it's their mini one as it fits in the microlight cockpit well. I think it was about £25.
How do you get on with the two knee boards don’t you find them restricting especially when landing with cross wind. I’m using just the one on my left leg but find it’s in the way. Still can’t get the crab approach in cross wind my C42 training kicks in.
Darren Weston thanks for your message Darren. I'm finding it ok to be honest. I think I would slide the iPad on my left knee round to the left side of my thigh if it was in the way, but I think because I have such long legs my knees are high which creates a bit of room. I might do a video about my cockpit setup and explain how it works for me. The crosswind thing is tricky until you 'get it'. Have you seen my crosswind video?
Had a bad day
This really cheered me up
Thanks Rory 😄
My pleasure. Sorry you had a tough day.
Love your videos Rory, really fantastic.
FlyingMoodys thanks very much!
Very entertaining Rory. A double act in the making! Keep them coming.
Thanks Kevin. I'm sure Leanne will come up again for more banter. Cheers for watching.

Great video. Can't beat flying over the coast on a sunny day. Just wish we had more of them in cloudy England!
Adam Balme it’s great fun! Fingers crossed for a good summer. Thanks for watching!
Another great one pal!!
The MicroPilot thanks very much - glad you're enjoying the videos.
Could I possibly have a chat with you some how? Maybe through Facebook?
nice and easy videos Rory keep them coming, Caernarfon is a flight for me this summer
Steve Openshaw thanks Steve. Caernarfon was superb and I can’t wait to go back. The return over Snowdon was ace too. That video should be up by Monday I hope.
Very nice and relaxing video. Leanne is a personality, who is alwys welcome also in my cockpit. Greetings to her too :-)
Petr D. Yeah, Leanne is ace. Lovely day for a flight!
Great video mate!

Yeah that'd be cool. You could possibly put one on top of the tail too. That'd give you some nice shots I reckon! Cheerio :)
In New Zealand unless you're an instructor pax are not allowed to touch flight controls.

Another great video Rory - Also what knee board are you using Rory?

It must be true what they say about pilots, you have some serious pretty ladies to fly with, sign me up haha
Robert Coutts ha ha ha - I know, I’m lucky aren’t I. Leanne is one of my best mates. Total legend.
