You can’t expect a smaller sensor too be clean and not have noise. I can say it’s still better than the GoPro any day. So Don’t expect it to be a lowlight king like the fx3 😂
I did have to asked myself if I was getting spoiled with my FX3. I did level myself down and I can confirm that those clips were noisy. I will take those same shots now that I have the camera optimized. I can 100% say that my views will be different.
I upgraded from the Action 2 to the Action 3 and recently to the Action 4. Using PRO mode is a must to get the best out of the camera. Also for leave it and forget it settings, I find this to work the best which you may want to try and tinker with it per your needs: ISO Range - 100-1600 White Balance - Auto Shutter: 1/100-1-8000 Sharpness: -2 Noise Reduction: -1
Also in low light remove the lens cover and mount the lens hood (be aware you lost the waterproof capabilities) set the shutter speed at max 1/200 amd adjudt the ISO accordingly (and of course switch on the low light enanchement). Hope it helps
People also want to buy an airplane and be able to fly it straight out of the box, and it will fly straight out of the box, but if they don't know how to fly its not the airplanes fault. Same concept applies here. I am a full time stay at home dad and also own an FX3, A7SIII, and A7IV, however even with action cameras I want to be able to control the settings so I can set my footage apart from everyone else. So to your argument, it does work right out of the box, but if you don't know what you're doing, and are not willing to learn, then you will get mediocre footage. Not the cameras fault. DJI doesn't know what YOU specifically are going to use the camera for, so they preset the default settings to the widest range possible to accommodate people to get ok footage out of the box.
You’re comparing apples to oranges with your airplane companions. I do want this particular device to work straight out of the box. I would also like to have creative controls over it. It’s an action camera should work straight out of the box without fiddling with settings and trying to figure out why my image is noisy. I knew why my image was noisy but I live for these things. Not everyone does tho. It sounds like you do as well. Maybe bring yourself down to the same level. I understand that this device is a tool and learning how to use it is a must. Again an Action Camera tho… Come down to the average mindset and not at yours and you will get the point I was trying to get across.
If you want something that you pull out of the box and it works perfectly then buy an iPhone. An action camera I don’t feel like is in the same category as a phone camera. A phone camera is designed out of the box to be idiot proof, an action camera, to get the best out of it is going to take some input from the end user. So back to my aircraft comparison, if you want to fly out of the box, then buy an airline ticket from United Airlines, if you want to get the best out of the aircraft, then get your pilots license and buy your own plane.
I've just got the Action 4 as my first ever action cam. From initial testing indoors I also noticed the grainy and generally disappointing quality. Definitely lower than from decent phone. Im sure it is a great camera with a good lighting and proper settings. Need to test the indoor shots with restricted ISO as you suggested 👍
It is what it is. You're expecting the Action 4 to perform as well as your FX3 which costs almost 10 times more. I think most people buy an action camera to record their adventures or vlogging. For me it's just something better than my mobile phone for recording my walks. I'm not lucky enough to own an FX3 but I do own a Lumix GX9 and several other larger Nikon DSLRs. I can't be bothered to take them out like I used to due to their weight. As for noise I bet you that 99% of people (including me 🙂) who watch your video don't even notice it especially if they're watching it on their handheld devices.
Yes I do feel like I’m very spoiled when it comes to low light with my FX3. I did make sure I was leveling myself on smaller sensor. I can confirm there’s was definitely something wrong with it straight out of the box. Now that I have been playing with it for a few days. I can confirm that I love the Action 4. Agree about the size, weight, and time it takes to get the shot compare to an action camera.
A guy demanding to use an action camera indoors, obviously that's not the camera for you. There's other small cameras that suits you just for you to have that good shots straight out of the box. Use it for other intent, then have to fiddle with the settings of course. Same with all cameras.
Fair point… The camera does perform so much better than the shots I’ve taken in this video. You do have to mess with the settings. Now let’s look at it from a perspective of the average user. Not someone who would have a knowledge of why the image was noisy? I know this camera is nowhere near acceptable at 12,800 iso. Why turn that on straight out of the box? Why not have someone who’s willing to go deeper into the settings and figure that out themselves…?
Those were some lowlight scenes, the lowlight on it is good, but is not an FX3. You can create your setting custom setting for your use case. I’m happy with the results limiting ISO to 3200, and it does make a difference to use D-LOG M.
I think it does make a difference. I think the issue with having the device sent to someone to be reviewed is; a lot of reviewers are cautious on what they say about the device to protect their business in the future. I don’t know if they sign a non disclosure when they’re sent these device but I can tell that some of them do hold back. Wait til I upload my final review. You’ll be surprised.
I can’t blame you. Special when you just want the camera to work when you press one button. I think Action 4 still better than the GP system. GoPro has too much glitches on their OS and battery issues. Action 4 hasn’t failed me yet. The noise is due to small flaw in the default settings from factory. Keep watching I’ll make more videos in the future with it.
Same dilemma here, but ended with the 12. I upgraded from the 10. No glitches or freezing yet, and the image is still better than action 4. Our next video willl be with the 12 and hdr on, lets see if it was worth it.
after reading other comments, I do believe you're getting pretty spoiled by your FX3. It's gonna be a night and day difference when it comes to noise and video quality. using action cameras definitely leave something to be desired. lol. Luckily I don't have an FX3 or and A7S3. lol.
I 💯 percent agree I’m spoiled. I did however factor that in. I did shoot the same scene and something similar. It seems like the Action 4 was compensating with ISO and keeping my shutter speed high for some reason. After setting the proper ISO ranges. The image looks so much better :-)
@@boibawang09 yeah, with the action 3 or 4, you have to play around the settings to make it look good. Otherwise it looks like a cheap akaso camera. That's what the gopro has going for them, their video quality looks great right off the bat. but with low light, I think it's about the same. Only if gopro can be as good reliability wise, and maybe less fish eyed on their wider settings.
The camera does perform a lot better after you set in pro and select proper settings. Then to your point. It’s an action camera. Why should one have to go deeper into the settings to prevent it from producing noisy image? The auto feature should be able to produce an acceptable image and is the user wanted to go deeper into noise reduction then they can turn on pro mode and go deeper into the settings.
That’s definitely a concern. From what I can tell. I don’t see how these people are loosing these cameras from the mount. It has a locking mechanism and without pressing it. It stays in place. It does need to be properly placed on the magnet and lock needs to properly engage tho.
Everyone including DJI is calling it the magnetic mount. But the magnet is just for convenience or for sticking the cam to a fridge. The proper mounting is with the locking mechanism. You need to press it with two fingers at the same time. It is very secure and will not unlock by itself.
You should hear a positive click when when the claws in the mount are engaged. I'll challenge anyone to release the camera without squeezing the jaw-release on the mount.

You should enable the auto low light mode. That will help your video a lot.
@6:50 GoPro has those same features in the GoPro Labs firmware which unlocks quite a bit. The trick is using those features wisely.
amazing quality and fun video. may i ask what camera and lens you use. thanks i subscribed btw
