The idea of the game being a troll game created for the sole purpose of triggering epileptic seizures in people is lowkey really fucking scary because it is a genuine possibility
Right? Like, a haunted game or one where the character AI becomes self-aware and goes rogue are scary in concept but are ultimately fictional. Meanwhile, it's entirely possible for someone to make a game that just hurts or kills people from epilepsy is not only doable in real life but there are actual people who would go to those lengths just to harm people for fun.
The game being a troll game intentionally made to trigger a fatal seizure in epileptic people also gives a better implied reason for why Gonzalo's friend gave him the pen drive at all. He probably wanted Gonzalo to take it to the police but couldn't say it as he was succumbing to the seizure.

Ironically, the legendary NES Godzilla Creepypasta does something similar to the player. Either this was done with knowledge of this creepypasta or not I can't say, but it is a neat concept regardless.

Thankfully the journalist survived, and guy who sent the email received proper punishment, this specific case being sorta groundbreaking when it came to interpreting law and crimes committed over the web. All this to say, killing someone with rapidly flashing lights from a malicious program? Not too farfetched, especially coming from a creepypasta

What really sells this creepypasta for me is how VibingLeaf managed to take a question that the story left vauge on purpose, and answer it in a way that reframes the entire story. In the original text, the countdown was left vague on purpose to fill the reader with dread and keep them thinking. The game however, actually shows us what happens with the countdown, which is the extra flashing presumably made to finish the job. Usually you don't want to answer questions like this as it ruins the fear of the unknown, so being able to give an answer AND make it just as scary as the original deserves some high fucking praise!
Certainly helps that the creepy Sonic render after the countdown ends and just before the jumpscare is legit creepy. The way it melts in with a repeated utterance of RIP all the way down... *shivers* I love it

I always interpreted the game's origins in the story to be a rom hack made to target people with epilepsy. It starts out normal, but then suddenly emits bright flashing lights. The countdown is especially chilling because it could be whoever made the game's way of seeing if their victim was still able to move, with any player unable to move being unable to get away from the screen before it started flashing again. edit: lmao toadbup actually said this in the video

Yeah, the story gives a clear implication that the only reason he survived was because he managed to pull himself away and not look at the screen. Instead of describing some dumb hyper realistic Sonic with blood all over him, the story leaves it completely up to your imagination to imagine what image could possibly be so bad as to kill someone. Except, thanks to the friend at the start, you know exactly how he would've ended up

The countdown is probably what got me the worst, the idea of a time limit and the absokute, flooding dread from fearing the worst and needing to act before it runs out? fucjing nerve wrecking i love it, the fact Gonzalo froze in place and had to actively fight himself to move away and hide was a very real and viseral reaction i know i would have had, its like you physical feel your survival and logic instincts tell you to move the fuck away but a side of you is morbidly curious and wants to find out what happens, it made me feel that sensation if wanting to yell at the screen so Ginzalo would snap out of it and hide, and i yhink if that was the intent then it was managed

As someone who has watched videos learning about the culture of the old(er) internet, I think this creepypasta and its remake are my favorite gaming creepypastas, at least on a conceptual level. I think the idea of the unnamed antagonist of the story just being a regular person who decided to make a rom hack that could literally kill people as some short of “shock game” is much more realistic and horrifying than the “haunted game” trope. Knowing how people are, I could genuinely see this happening and that alone makes it more scary.
*Glares at the person behind the FNF Sunday Night Suicide mod, who in one song had the screen shake around so much, it nearly killed a commenters friend who was playing the mod* ...no, I am NOT JOKING. This actually happened. The mod creator didn't know extremely fast moving pictures counted as an epileptic trigger, just flashing lights, but didn't really apologize or take that detail into account. He added an epilepsy warning after the fact.

Like, you can be in any stage in the statue world and there will be a shortcut back to the volcano/shrine gate area Or you'll be in any lighthouse stage and there'll be a shortcut to the area where the squid was (sorry I don't remember area names well) I recommend using Retroarch with the dolphin core for it BTW! I find it has a bit more features and a bit of a smoother look in the game than with Dolphin alone

I should probably mention this but vibing leaf is an amazing horror creator that's known to give really amazing twists to creepy pastas in a really realistic way. For example most of his creepypasta recreations with videogames have to do with situations that can genuinely happen to anybody. Like the ramson ware angry birds video, the spyware candy crush, the sonic/roblox recreations that are basically developers/users being malicious and creating viruses and trojan's inside said games to get to the protagonist. Some are haunted horror games like the dead plants video though it's more heartbreaking than horror. Cartoon creepy pastas all have either someone modified the episode because they pirated it(another realistic thing that can happen), someone at the official company did messed up with the cartoon tape(they're immediately fired) or there was broadcast interruption by malicious individuals, either way most of Vibingleaf's recreations are nearly something that can happen to someone.

He was made to capture sonic by Dr.Eggman canonically but what i find so amazing is how a fandom saw this one-off character with basically the same plot of every one of Dr.Eggmans robots and RAN with it. This creepypasta hits me perfectly because I was always put off by the continue theme whenever I played Sonic as a kid. Those Genesis tones had a rising tension that made me horribly anxious. On some more morbidly curious retries where I wanted to hear more, I felt like I needed to get up and leave the room. The general vibe of this game being made to actively hurt you via epilepsy triggers is even worse. It justifies the loud and obnoxious sensory overloads and makes the threat feel more real, and countdown to the second attack validated my fear of the timer. What an amazing creepypasta, thanks for making a vid on it.

I do feel like what sells the "to make sure that they're dead" is that stop in the music and the almost SMIRK that you can sort of see the 3D Rendered Sonic get upon the game receiving an input. I always interpreted the game's origins in the story to be a rom hack made to target people with epilepsy. It starts out normal, but then suddenly emits bright flashing lights. The countdown is especially chilling because it could be whoever made the game's way of seeing if their victim was still able to move, with any player unable to move being unable to get away from the screen before it started flashing again.

Yeah, the story gives a clear implication that the only reason he survived was because he managed to pull himself away and not look at the screen. Instead of describing some dumb hyper realistic Sonic with blood all over him, the story leaves it completely up to your imagination to imagine what image could possibly be so bad as to kill someone. Except, thanks to the friend at the start, you know exactly how he would've ended up

The countdown is probably what got me the worst, the idea of a time limit and the absokute, flooding dread from fearing the worst and needing to act before it runs out? fucjing nerve wrecking i love it, the fact Gonzalo froze in place and had to actively fight himself to move away and hide was a very real and viseral reaction i know i would have had, its like you physical feel your survival and logic instincts tell you to move the fuck away but a side of you is morbidly curious and wants to find out what happens, it made me feel that sensation if wanting to yell at the screen so Ginzalo would snap out of it and hide, and i yhink if that was the intent then it was managed

When the countdown finished and the game went “haywire”, a TON of red and white wavy lights flashed insanely fast with screaming noises. The game has no epilepsy warning whatsoever, so if you have epilepsy, you won’t know if the game is unsafe. That’s how his friend died, he had an epileptic seizure and finally collapsed after handing it to Gonzalo.
No, the story itself didn’t happen and the game doesn’t exist, but someone made a safer fanmade version, which actually has an epilepsy warning. Aka, VibingLeafs version.

As someone who has watched videos learning about the culture of the old(er) internet, I think this creepypasta and its remake are my favorite gaming creepypastas, at least on a conceptual level. I think the idea of the unnamed antagonist of the story just being a regular person who decided to make a rom hack that could literally kill people as some short of “shock game” is much more realistic and horrifying than the “haunted game” trope. Knowing how people are, I could genuinely see this happening and that alone makes it more scary.

@@ericf.a8623 I haven't messed with the eclipse portions much yet cuz I'm getting the main outta the way, but one thing that's fun is they made it a bit more open world. Like, you can be in any stage in the statue world and there will be a shortcut back to the volcano/shrine gate area
Or you'll be in any lighthouse stage and there'll be a shortcut to the area where the squid was (sorry I don't remember area names well)
I recommend using Retroarch with the dolphin core for it BTW! I find it has a bit more features and a bit of a smoother look in the game than with Dolphin alone

After gonzalo was done with that shit, we went on the internet and found that this was actually supposed to be a "joke".
It was adressed later in the video when he actually played it
I should probably mention this but vibing leaf is an amazing horror creator that's known to give really amazing twists to creepy pastas in a really realistic way.
For example most of his creepypasta recreations with videogames have to do with situations that can genuinely happen to anybody. Like the ramson ware angry birds video, the spyware candy crush, the sonic/roblox recreations that are basically developers/users being malicious and creating viruses and trojan's inside said games to get to the protagonist.
Some are haunted horror games like the dead plants video though it's more heartbreaking than horror.
Cartoon creepy pastas all have either someone modified the episode because they pirated it(another realistic thing that can happen), someone at the official company did messed up with the cartoon tape(they're immediately fired) or there was broadcast interruption by malicious individuals, either way most of Vibingleaf's recreations are nearly something that can happen to someone.

This creepypasta hits me perfectly because I was always put off by the continue theme whenever I played Sonic as a kid. Those Genesis tones had a rising tension that made me horribly anxious. On some more morbidly curious retries where I wanted to hear more, I felt like I needed to get up and leave the room.
The general vibe of this game being made to actively hurt you via epilepsy triggers is even worse. It justifies the loud and obnoxious sensory overloads and makes the threat feel more real, and countdown to the second attack validated my fear of the timer.
