Me, as a newbie, "Oh...well, that's good to know. Up till now I wasn't sure how formal 'presentations' were for the people that were recommending presentations." Some designers just show their nice slides or the pdf they upload.
Definitely feeling inspired by this! I especially appreciate the "not getting to the office before 11 am." Feels like in today's hustle culture people are so keen on promoting "wake up at 5 am, workout, start work at 7, go till 9 pm" type work days. I'm just glad to see someone with a successful business being open about sleeping in, keeping mornings light, and showing realistic work-life balance.
Very inspiring indeed! Love to see how other designers schedule their day. It's interesting to see some backstage of your studio and work as well. Cheers!
I’m thinking of becoming a graphic designer because I love being creative and seeing ideas become visualized, but I also like working with my hands lol. Would you recommend this field for someone like myself?
As a fellow designer this was an interesting view of another designer’s work day. I was looking at your hardware set up and was interested to know if you have any thoughts on laptops. I currently work on a 27’ iMac but I’m considering get a MacBookPro or similar. I work with Photoshop, InDesign, illustrator, occasionally use After Effects and 3D apps like Blender and Dimensions. I’ve been watching YT videos to find the right configuration of memory and SSD but I’m finding it a minefield. Any advice would be helpful.
I really like the video. I am Studying this at college Cert 3 in Sydney, I noticed that you have drawn things on paper and from the iPad Pro. Out of curiosity, Do you use the Adobe Suite of Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign? I may know that photoshop is mainly for images, Indesign is mainly used for typography and Illustrator is used for Creating fancy art. Do you get so much pressure doing these creative artwork for people or you enjoy it a lot?
Hey, i want to become a graphic designer and i wanted to ask you a question. What are good programs i should learn to use regarding graphic design? i heard programs like adobe photoshop, illustrator, and Indesign were good but I'm not sure. Should I learn those programs before even thinking taking a graphic design course? or will the course itself teach me how to use them?
Hi there! Hope I can help with your question as I'm a self taught designer myself. Before I even touched the Adobe programs, I personally spent months learning everything I could on theory and design principles (ex. Hierarchy, white space, grids, colour theory, etc.) & I made a checklist of all the topics I needed to learn/make notes on, and followed that so it wasn't too overwhelming. After that, I bought the Adobe suite and again spent months learning the programs (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign - & for fun, After Effects, but not required). After I had a good understanding of the programs, I began doing a ton of passion projects and briefs, building case studies, and my socials. My entire process does take a LONG time, it literally took me probably 2 years now to finally be at the end of my base learning journey to feel like I'm actually pretty proficient as a designer, but I personally knew that I wanted to be thorough. I was working a another full time job during all this too, so that's probably why it took longer as well lol - I know a lot of ppl just jump straight into the programs, but imo, theory is extremely important and sets ppl a part from being a good designer vs. someone who just knows how to use the programs - best of luck!!
I'm not really sure what to suggest specifically as I've not been in this situation, but I suppose the obvious would be just to get back to it, brush up on skills you know could use some improvement, rework your portfolio and begin marketing yourself again - don't try and do everything all at once, if you've got the ability/resources to take your time with it then it will be less overwhelming
Hi Will! I have a question that I have wanted to ask you for a long time, and I hope you can answer.. do your graphic design services only concern the brand's identity or do you also do something else like book layouts, advertising, UI?
We can do all these things, however we specialise in brand strategy (getting the business to understand how their brands works and how to connect with their audience) and brand identity (creating the visuals and the personality of the company through visual design).
Question: how do you stay creative and keep things fresh? Backstory: I’m an Agricultural Communications major - ag based designs, photography and videos. I find it incredibly hard to keep my designs fresh and struggle with logos that don’t look like others I’ve seen before.
Hey Will just a small question I wanted to ask. I have started learning grafic designing 3 mouth ago and although I could freely use Adobe illustrator and photoshop I am unable to produce a real work no matter how many hours I spent brain storming or mind mapping or whatever they call it. another problem is that I am really confused what category should I focus on. can you please make a video explaining what to do or at least reply to my comment?
Have you tried following a brief? I sometimes find if there isn't enough information to work from it can be a bit overwhelming knowing where to begin - if you have a brief it gives you perimeters to work in which helps your brain work out the problem :)
this is so inspiring, however i wonder: do you ever eat XD? seems like you are working flat out. i love the office its so nice and cozy, just a really clean vibe there. Thanks for sharing this with us
I love the idea of a graphic designer but I’m a very social person and have to talk to people would I still want to go into this job or should I find another one where I talk a bit more with my group?
I have a question but I don't know if you're even going to be able to get back at this. I'm a 17 year old with a dream and passion to become a graphic designer. I've been watching videos on graphic designers and how their lives are on a day to day basis to get a quick peak at my soon to be future. My only worry is that (A.I) is slowly taking over and that graphic designers will be left in the dust because now a days you can simply get a literal robot to do anything you want them to do. They could generate literally anything. Companies might not even look out or admire (Graphic designers) anymore because they could simply just type in a command in any (A.I) website and get exactly what they're looking for. I want this to be my future but that is my only concern and worry for future graphic designers. - Is graphic design even worth going for now in 2024 ? - Is there different kinds of graphic designers ? - Can I work from home being a graphic designer? - What technology would a beginner (Learner) graphic designer need ? I just found your page today and I already love your style of videos and what content you put out. I hope to hear back from you, Will.
"I roll into the Office at 11"............... Most designers work regular Office hours 9-5, then typically a few hours past 5, occasionally weekends. The thing they don't tell you in school is the amount of time spent doing admin type things like reading emails, responding to emails, planning meetings, budgets, timelines, invoicing, estimating, oh and being creative!
My first project when I was a teenager was around $40/50 :) There's no gatekeeping, I've taught pretty much everything I've learned over the past 10+ years on my videos to share with you guys
It'll hurt even more to know for the same money you could have got a Ferrari with zero depreciation that'll make up for the difference in running costs!

Yeah, I'm not for waking up too early and I hate 'hustle culture'. It's not my thing and I find it can become toxic. :)
Its always interesting to see how other people work! Im a packaging graphic designer and it's very different but also relatable!
I love watching others work too!
Really enjoyed this!

There's no way you guys have a shop called Poundtown?! I've heard of Dollar Tree/General, it's similar to a 99 cent store
