highly recommend 배두훈 bae doo hoon's (aka father's) cover of lay me down. there's concert versions and there's also a version of him singing it in a more casual setting during one of their vlives (my personal fave even though he didn't sing the ending)

(The song has nothing to do with the movie) Because this song was sung by the 'master' Hyeon-in with his own unique vibe, no one has been able to imitate it for 70 years. (Because Koreans greatly respect Hyeon-in and love this song, the challenger has an obligation to show a high level of perfection. So reinterpreting this song is a very risky adventure.) However, Forestella succeeded greatly in this challenge. They achieved 'respect' for hyeon-in and their own 'success' at the same time. So everyone was very surprised and moved by this impossible mission. (Silla is one of Korea's ancient states and existed for 1,000 years.)

This article is my subjective analysis of Forestella's reinterpretation of this song. Part 1: A traditional string instrument and harp symbolizing the moonlight illuminating the foot of a mountain deep at night. (Eastern and Western instruments blend wonderfully, which suggests that Forestella is a crossover group) Emphasizing the lyrical atmosphere, leggiero tenor (Min-gyu Cho) begins the first verse. lyrics : Ah, Silla's night “I can hear the bells of Bulguk-sa Temple.” “Traveller, stop moving.” Let's stand at the foot of Geumosan Mountain under the quiet moonlight and sing a song. Silla's song of the night. Commentary: 'The traveler was passing through a road at the foot of Geumosan Mountain in 'Gyeong-ju' in the middle of the night. At this time, someone's voice calls out to the traveler in the moonlight. It's a ghost (bass). Commentary: 'The ghost of Hwarang, who died in battle, talks about the glorious memories of the old Silla Kingdom. Travelers listen to ghosts' stories for a long time.' Information: ‘Hwarang-do’ is an elite warrior unit made up of young sons of Silla nobles. They were treated as ‘idols of war’ in Silla society. Lastly, what is interesting is that in Part 2, Forestella is compared to ‘Hwarang-do’. On the 'battlefield' called the stage, they are as beautiful as 'Hwarang-do' sent into battle, have great talent, and are filled with solemn determination. (Win or die) Reinterpreting this legendary song was like taking on an 'impossible mission'. They finally succeed in finishing the song (battle) and receiving applause and cheers from the crowd. Viva! Forestella!
There is so much work and effort that goes into this from the team: vocalists, musicians, composers and arrangers. I wish Forestella puts out an explanation video after each of their masterpieces. I am sure the viewers will relate to the song better. Especially non- Korean’s who are unaware of Korean history. An explanation video for their original m/v’s will also help.

I have no idea how, when, and where, but I knew Besame Mucho since I was a little kid. Perhaps the original Korean singer was the reason why. I believe it's not just me. I would say all... most (30 and above?) of Koreans are familiar with Besame Mucho. They would at least recognize it right away if they hear the melody for like two seconds, though they might not know who sang it. It's been a minute, but now, all grown up, I play the song myself for the first time. I see why 7, 8 years old kid picked it up somewhere and never forgotten it. It's just a great song. This article is my subjective analysis of Forestella's reinterpretation of this song.
Part 1: A traditional string instrument and harp symbolizing the moonlight illuminating the foot of a mountain deep at night. (Eastern and Western instruments blend wonderfully, which suggests that Forestella is a crossover group)
Emphasizing the lyrical atmosphere, leggiero tenor (Min-gyu Cho) begins the first verse.

Let's stand at the foot of Geumosan Mountain under the quiet moonlight and sing a song.

Commentary: 'The traveler was passing through a road at the foot of Geumosan Mountain in 'Gyeong-ju' in the middle of the night. At this time, someone's voice calls out to the traveler in the moonlight. It's a ghost (bass).
The ghost stayed here lonely for 1000 years, waiting for someone to listen to his old story.'

Interestingly, Forestella interpreted this song theatrically. The three tenors represent the traveler (Cho Min-gyu), the moonlight (Kang Hyeong-ho), and the narrator (Bae Doo-hoon).
So, ‘Traveler’ (leggiero tenor Cho Min-gyu) starts by singing the first verse,
‘Moonlight’ (countertenor Kang Hyeong-ho) follows the traveler with a beautiful voice and adds subtle harmony.
‘Ghost’ (bass Go Woo-rim) makes a solemn sound like ‘Don Giovanni’s Ghost’.
The ‘narrator’ (dramatic tenor Bae Doo-hoon) emphasizes the chorus.

Commentary: 'The ghost of Hwarang, who died in battle, talks about the glorious memories of the old Silla Kingdom. Travelers listen to ghosts' stories for a long time.'
Information: ‘Hwarang-do’ is an elite warrior unit made up of young sons of Silla nobles. They were treated as ‘idols of war’ in Silla society.
This organization (=do) was well-versed in academics and martial arts, had beautiful appearances, and had a very strong sense of loyalty. They always fought on the front lines during wars. And sometimes, they performed ‘impossible missions’.
There were very strict rules in Hwarang-do, one of which was 'never retreat from battle.' So when they went into battle, they either won or died. They had the custom of putting on beautiful makeup before going into battle. (Because it could be your last battle)
Thanks to Hwarang-do's brilliant performance, Silla was able to establish a unified nation in Korea for the first time.
Interestingly, Forestella expressed ‘Silla’s Moonlit Night’ as if it were a short play. It reminds me of Schubert's 'Erlkonig'.
Also, in the last verse, they sing each word with a strong staccato, showing 'respect' by classically expressing 'master' Hyeon-in's unique vibe.
Lastly, what is interesting is that in Part 2, Forestella is compared to ‘Hwarang-do’.
On the 'battlefield' called the stage, they are as beautiful as 'Hwarang-do' sent into battle, have great talent, and are filled with solemn determination. (Win or die)
Reinterpreting this legendary song was like taking on an 'impossible mission'.
They finally succeed in finishing the song (battle) and receiving applause and cheers from the crowd.

There is so much work and effort that goes into this from the team: vocalists, musicians, composers and arrangers.
I wish Forestella puts out an explanation video after each of their masterpieces. I am sure the viewers will relate to the song better. Especially non- Korean’s who are unaware of Korean history.

I have no idea how, when, and where, but I knew Besame Mucho since I was a little kid. Perhaps the original Korean singer was the reason why. I believe it's not just me. I would say all... most (30 and above?) of Koreans are familiar with Besame Mucho. They would at least recognize it right away if they hear the melody for like two seconds, though they might not know who sang it. It's been a minute, but now, all grown up, I play the song myself for the first time. I see why 7, 8 years old kid picked it up somewhere and never forgotten it. It's just a great song. It sounds mas "besame mucho" 🎉😂
