Patching Cement Garage Floor

- Scotty Demonstrates how to patch a hole in a cement garage floor. This pitting appears to be from an oil leak. As oil seeps in and then allows the cement to loosen. A tire running over it provides pressure and it breaks apart or moisture and freeze/thaw conditions.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
Need:
Patching product
Bucket to mix (if applicable)
paint stir stick
trowel or putty knife
compressed air or water pressure to clean hole
degreaser or prep cleaning agent
heat if curing temps are too cold
You get an A+ for making an attempt rather than calling a repairman. The concrete snobs like to pretend that mixing Portland, aggregate and water is impossible unless you have 20 years experience. Better to try and fail then try again.
Thanks the patch has been going strong for the last 6 months.
Is it still strong?
How'd this guy know not only do I need to know how to patch concrete but I'm also looking for a meatball recipe!
You need an adhesive to effectively bond concrete together.
Watery Tiling cement works like a charm...surprise he didnt use any adhesive
This is wonderful, I wanted a simple video to show to my friend since I'm bad at explaining things, thank you!
Not that it matters much, but the floor itself is concrete. Cement is simply an ingredient that binds the aggregate together to make the concrete. That said, nice video!
Thanks so much for the helpful step-by-step video.
Nice work 👍👍
Did you just use a wood chisel on concrete?
+Kasey Zeltinger glad it wasn't just me that noticed!!
+duhkulavision
Yes it was a wood chisel, but one that I was not worried about. You are correct that was not the correct tool for that application. I left my flat chisel at home. Thanks for the attention to detail.
The fact he didn't key the hole is what bothers me more.
DaTwistedOne1 what is keying the hole?
Which material do you use?
Concrete answers for our concrete problems; cementing the answers to our minds.
Dude totally nice I appreciate you that's what I like to see awesome
Spraying water on top weakens the concrete, to bring up more paste to make the patch more finishable use a wood or magnisum float or just a piece of scrap wood will do. once you've got the right water concrete mix try never to add more water.
slurry
Nice video. Thanks for the quick lesson!
Check your volume!
Thank you for the video. I will be filling some holes in the garage, is there a particular method for it to be really smooth to roller skate on ?
This was helpful, thank you.
This is a great video....I just got a new garage door and need to patch the cement to make a clean seal. I am Wisconsin and it is quite cold, can i do it now or should i wait for warmer weather.
Cute water pitcher
My garage floor is right above my finished man cave in my basement. My new house that I just recently purchased... I found out, that snow from my truck, is leaking through cracks, and leaking water into my basement. What would you do, if you were in my situation? Would what you just did... Work on my issue, preventing the water to stop leaking?? Thanks.
Hi Nrfa,
It sounds like your cracks may be more severe, or completely through the concrete. A surface patch may help temporarily, but is not a long term fix. Concrete can weep water through unless it has a sealer/coating applied.
+ScottyOfAllTrades what would you recommend, to fix this?? Thanks.
+Nrfa
Hi Nrfa. Check out this link. An epoxy or polyeurethan injections may work well as long as the cracks were not caused by a foundation issue that will continue to widen.
www.myfoundationrepairs.com/blog/?tag=/epoxy+injections. Other wise if you are just wanting to eliminate water seepage from your vehicle. A vapor barrier may be a less expensive option than major foundation repair. A PVC material such as the following could be another option:

I hope that helps.
Great video, thanks for sharing. My garage has a really nice polished finish but I've chipped it. Is there a way to restore the polished look after you've filled the hole like you demonstrated in your video?
Yea look up epoxying your garage on youtube
How do you fix a large dip in the center of your garage floor?
Why you did not use concrete Bonding adhesive, I saw other people use it?
Hi. This video really helped my confidence in patching my garage floor, & not spending $2,500+ (quoted price) for some 'divots' all over our 3-car garage. One question: what did you use for chipping the 'divots' deeper? A screwdriver, a certain chisel? Thanks. :-)
I've got a quote of 3,000 for one car garage.
How do you fix uneven concrete and larger gaps
Can you epoxy over patches like this? I will need to do a lot of patching in my garage and then would like to epoxy for a nice clean finish. Is this acceptable?
Great video which product use brand ?
Link to product used
Tks!!
Thanks for asking. I used Sakrete quick setting cement patcher. Something similar to this: www.amazon.com/SAKRETE-AMERICA-60205004-Cement-Patcher/dp/B000FHDESI/ref=sr_1_16?crid=3GCGTK9U8VJ3C&keywords=sakrete+quick+setting+cement+patcher&qid=1670609828&sprefix=sacrete+quick+setting+cement+patcher%2Caps%2C144&sr=8-16
Have you tested the concrete with a car rolling on it?
Pretty good work.
I have holes like this throughout the garage I going to do....my question can expoxy be done after .....I see they have expoxy patch, but that will cost a lot since I have a lot of holes, some are like 1ft x 1ft
Remember when you fell from that tree in the yard
How long before you can paint the patch?
Thx .. on it
If I got to put 90 degree angles I might as well RIP out my whole garage. It has probably 10 years of salt pitting
You had me at F bomb...
What are the best weather conditions to do this type of repair?
As with most cements, glues, epoxies and such, temperature plays a factor in the cure time. If you are in clean dry environment and above 60 degrees F, it should work well.
Good video poor volume.
cannot hear you until the 2 minute mark
can I put vinyl flooring on top of that?
What product was used for patch?
Sakrete quick set.
Always add powder to the water.
Didn't wet the floor a bit before patching?! 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
I though he was going to make kool-Aid
I wondered what you were talking about...then it made sense😂
very very low sound. Inaudible
mumble... mumble... SCRAPE SCRAPE SCRAPE!!! Great tutorial though.
you didnt wet your old concrete... fail
I can't hear shit
