That was so helpful. I thought that was going to be how it was done, but having zero experience in working with concrete, I have been a bit apprehensive to get started on the repairs. Being a 60 y/o disabled woman with absolutely no diy experience and having to learn how to do repairs and upkeep has been a bit daunting. Getting instruction by someone as experienced and conscientious as you are is priceless. Thank you for sharing this with us.

I've been pouring cement for 25 years in and around Odessa. I've never patched cracks. We usually break and replace. Tomorrow will be the first cracks ever, I know it sounds crazy... Sumps, containment areas, slabs, stairs , curb and gutter , wheelchair ramps... Lol never patched cracks. Thanks for being there for another cement Finisher with the video. Can't ever stop learning and knowledge is power.

From what I've encountered David cracks and chips along
concrete to concrete joints are one of the most common repairs.
You make it look easy. The quick set cement makes it work.
I've also used a durable joint urethane caulk for the joints
after repairs... Seems to help to exclude deteriorating water flow into the joint
    here in the NE USA.

Good info. I have a concrete slab floor, Took out tile and carpet to install floating engineered hardwood floor. In taking out the tile one edge of the slab was damaged. Area 30" wide, 2"height by 1-2 inches in depth. Very irregular surface of broken concrete (with small amounts of thin-set still adhering to the concrete) I will need to mount a transition piece of flooring (bull nose-step transition) after I repair the concrete slab back to a 90 degree angle. Trying to figure out what the best material is. As in this example quick setting concrete with bonding agent, floor leveling material also with bonding agent, Quikcrete vinyl patch or should I use an epoxy cement repair . any advice would be appreciated. TXS!!

I'm following your exact steps except I cover it and then spray with water 5 hours later. In the beginning its all good, but seems like when I spray with water it cracks. Do you water at all? The quickrete container says keep moist which is why I spray with water. But for some reason I'm thinking that may be causing my patch to crack. I tried it multiple times and I think the water may be the issue. Any thoughts? Do you ever water it to keep moist?

    Dude you’re frickin awesome
I learned so much from you.
I want to give you business
I’m a general handyman but don’t feel comfortable with large cement projects.
I patch (thanks to you), and small (really small) slabs. But I have a lot of clients who ask me for more.
I am pretty darn good at pavers (once again thanks to you) but don’t feel comfortable completing that type of project and still offer warranty to my clients.
I’d like to forward them your number from now on. How should I go about that.
My prices are prettt competitive on other types of projects (electrical, flooring, appliance repair, plumbing, remodels, etc.
Have a lot of repeat business.
Anyways I digress. I don’t want to “try” to do a good job with concrete/cement. I rather hone my skills first, but still don’t like losing leads when I can pass them on to competent contractors, because I know that will make me look good at the end and continue to drum up repeat business.
So anyway please reach out to me or I’ll try your number but only when I hear back from you, because I’m sure you’re flooded with work.

Hi david quick question i looked at the sikaflex bonding agent installation sheet on their website and brushing it on for this type of application is nor recommended. I know quickrete does make a brushable product. Just curios since i previously asked sikaflex and they mentioned 3 spplication tupes..It is to be used as a slurry...mixed in the mix...or used as a primer for acrylic coatings only. Just curios if the product works well even if used outside of their recommended application. Would mixing it into the cement as a fortefeir / bonding agent be better or painting it to the surface as you did better? Assuming this is the correct product for both applications.

Hey man, I need to fix a couple broke corners on my patio. But they all broke where my posts are, supporting the roof over the patio. It’s like they poured it in sections and two posts are directly on the corner, and it broke off about a 10” by 10” triangle corner off. Should I just drill dowels into it and repour that corner or will that not hold with the weight of the roof on it?

Hi did the patch come close to matching the color of the existing concrete? I've looked at sika/quickcrete and the results after from HD submitted photo reviews look awful, yes, it patched, but it's an eyesore. Is there a better product that can match gray concrete better, from what I've seen, it's either it's too light or too dark. For better matching, are you better off buying a premixed bag and using that?

Not a big fan of bonding agents. The reason why new concrete sticks to old is that the old concrete still has granules that were not hydrated in the original pour. The new concrete hydrated grains turn into something like a gel sack that bonds with the newly hydrated cells on the old concrete. That is what causes the bond. Bonding agents make it so that the gel sacks from the old concrete doesn’t touch (bond) with the new. Clean and wetting the old concrete will increase the bond.

I THINK , that "vinyl patch" stuff is pretty good for bonding and not chipping up , but it dries a very "lighter gray color" and doesn't match really well , plus I think it's not great for "sculpting and feathering" like this stuff is ..... That's why i THINK , this stuff might be a better method ...... It has been 20 years since I used that "vinyl patch" stuff , so maybe it is different nowdays , but the patches I did , held up well , just a much different color than the surrounding driveway ..... a much lighter gray , too light really .... But in my opinion THEE BIGGEST PRIORITY is BONDING and not cracking up in time , THAT is what you do NOT WANT a problem with ..... This method looks pretty good as far as matching color and feathering out a nice finish , and I assume it will bond well and last .... we shall see , I'm about to try it today
