When I was younger, Mary kay was one of the only companies with affordable foundations for darkskinned black women ❤
I didn’t know that…..hummm, pretty cool 👍🏽
Yes! I wore Mary Kay for years!
They didn't have a color for me in 1972. I bought the darkest shade they had and it turned gray on me. A coworker pulled me aside and had me look in a mirror and said, "Take that ish off your face and throw it away!" Fast forward, my 50 year old daughter loves it, but I won't buy it, lol.
Yes, I remember when I was a kid my Mom used it all the time and her consultant was also black and was doing very well with it. They gave her a car if I remember correctly.

I personally knew Miss Mary Kay. She was a member of our Church. She and I corresponded after she became ill. She was a beautiful soul and a woman of deep Faith. May she rest in peace 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️❤️❤️
A childhood friend married Mary Kay's daughter Marilyn. My first husband and I visited the couple and stayed with them at their home in Houston. Sadly, Marilyn passed away a few years later.
Thank you that is beautiful ❤️
And a real scammer.
She taught her motto to all her Consultants: "God first family second" and everything else will fall into line! I never met her but I could feel that she was a beautiful person inside and out.

When i was around 5 or 6 years old in 1989, my mother started selling Mary Kay products. She was a very hard-working woman and set the foundation for me that anything was possible. She would do the paper route before the sun came up (back when your newspaper actually got dropped off on your doorstep). Then, she attended to her 4 young children during the day if we weren't in school. Then, in the evening, she would host mary Kay gatherings and sell her heart out. My mother was actually a very excellent sales woman. Unfortunately, at the same time, my father ventured very deep into his gambling habit and took my mother down with him. But before that, she was very successful at what she did, and if i remember right, she won mostly extra products or a percentage off. The actual big gifts were just way beyond her selling limits, but dear god, did she try. 😊
I love your Mom. ❤️🥰
I agree. God bless that Mom.
God Bless you and your mom
Beautiful story ❤
My mom sold Mary Kay..we had food on the table, cloths on our back, a roof over our head. My mom is now retired in Boca Grande. Mary Kay was very good to our family. I still use the products to this day.
She is the 1% who got in early. 99% of sales reps either made $0, less than $100 a year or lose money on this -amazing opportunity- “business” venture. All we have to do is look at their yearly income disclosure statement.
Our pastor's wife sold Mary Kay. We lived in a very rural Pennsylvanian town and I am sure that the church didn't pay very much as hard as a salary to the pastor.
Almost everyone makes nothing in the mom scams.
I went to a lot of Mary Kay's parties because she had the best skincare.
I didn't realize the products were still around! I'd love to get my hands on that night balm if it's still around. Anybody know?
I was a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant for about 6 years. I was never successful as a seller but a number of the products are still staples for me. I love the oil free makeup remover, the hand creme and the Timewise 4 in 1 Cleanser. The makeup is excellent as it's highly pigmented and contains no fragrance in a very wide selection of colors for all women.
I still use it the products are excellent especially the makeup remover
I was a consultant for a year wheh I got out of high school but all my friends and family said it was too expensive so I hardly sold anything that year. But I agree they were great product quality.
@@Singer_music7 I used most of it myself and didn’t sell much
Yes was a consultant for a few years, mostly for myself 😅 love the mineral wear line
The make up remover is AMAZING!!! I wouldn’t mind getting some more of that myself.
I sold Mary Kay during the early 1970s. I still have my eye shadow brush! I went to two conventions and they were so much fun. Mary Kay said that the products consultants purchased were refundable at, as I recall, 50%. Truly, it might have been more. When I moved to a rural area, I returned a lot of my inventory, and I did get a refund. I have nothing but good to say about Mary Kay, her company,or her products. She was kind, honest, and her products were wonderful.
I sold Mary Kay about 15 years ago and I attempted to return my items and I was told I would be “black balled” from the company. I think things changed after Mary Kay passed.
@@MindfulMeg I think someone lied to you. My Director tells me I can always return anything. I don’t even have to give a reason.
@@nadalynm.3145 I was attempting to return my starter kit and stop selling. I don’t believe it’s an issue if you’re just returning a few items but still selling.
I found out I was mistaken. I checked with my director and she said she could help me organize a promotion to sell it all.
I am a Mkay Consultant & thus is my 2nd time around. First in the 80s & rejoined in 2019. After i retired i moved from NYC to Florida & wanted to meet people. Rediscovered MKay and the rest is history. I enjoy what I'm doing, it keeps me busy & the positive women that I've met is simply amazing! I love their products & as a Black women i find their foundation a perfect match. I ❤ my mkay biz 😊

I am longtime Arbonne Consultant and Peter Morck now deceased met Mary Kay at a network marketing convention in 1979..she encouraged Petter to start his business in USA and he did. We Arbonne Girls edify and respect Mary Kay Ash greatly. Thank you Mary Kay.
I used Arbonne from 1984 to around 2006 when they stopped selling the EU formulation in the US and started using lesser quality ingredients that wouldn't be allowed in the EU. I loved their packaging as well.
All pyramid schemes.
In 1985 I was 14 years old and my mum was depressed because she'd separated from my Dad. In a highly uncharacteristic move, she bought she and I a complete Mary Kay skincare and makeup range for each of us. It cost her a fortune. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. May Kay Cosmetics worked so well for my mum and I and I continued to use their products for 20 years. Loved one of their lipsticks in the colour "Toffee". I miss that time and my great skin back then. Btw, my Mum recovered from her divorce and has been living her best life ever since.
That lipstick was my favorite too, here in Chile it wasn't that popular because it was expensive in comparison to Avon.... toffee was beautiful❤❤❤
I remember toffee lipstick!!! I loved it, too! 😊
I loved Toffee too! The new color "Casual Rose" is similar.
@@singingmama1980 oh that's great to know. Thanks for that information. I should try it. 🙂
Good for you and your Mom! Sending blessings and well wishes!🙏🏻🥰
In 1970 I was a 22 year old stay at home mom., I had an old High School friend who began selling Mary Kay. She did amazingly well. She was our homecoming Queen from a rather large Atlanta School, her husband was just starting out as a real estate developer. They both built booming businesses while raising 2 sons. She worked her way up the ranks becoming an international rep, and drove a pink Cadillac. She definitely put in the effort achieving great success. As for me. I was allergic to the makeup. I only used it once. But: I knew many women that purchased it and liked it.

In 1970 the makeup had arsenic in it so maybe that's why you had a reaction to it !!

I was born into an Estée Lauder using family! I work at Hudson’s behind the Lauder counter. I find this video very interesting, because Estee’s father worked with horses, and her original formulas were based on the products he used on tack. She also noticed that her father’s hands never seemed to age. Both women were visionaries and understood you can work hard and still look beautiful!
@julienchilton544 you must be in Michigan lol we are the only ones who had a Hudson’s department store if you’re talking about JL Hudson…and I found out that JL Hudson is in the immediate Ford family…the L in his name is the maiden/sir name of one of the major Fords mother or something like that…you know how when they have wealth they keep the family names in the family when they start to marry off
Sweet! I too grew up using Estée Lauder skincare, cosmetics and perfume because my mother used them faithfully along with Charles of the Ritz Revenesence.
youre thinking of Eliz. Arden
Estee Lauder had her pharmacist uncle 's prescription for dry hands. She used it as her first moisturizer. She died a multi millionaire, and he died a pauper.
I also was born into an Estee Lauder using family! I used to go shopping with my aunt's and grandmother every weekend, and we'd have lunch at Hudson's!!! Hudson's...oh, that made me smile! I live in L.A. now, and haven't thought of Hudson's in sooo long! I MISS THOSE DAYS SO MUCH! Cheers and all my love you you and the wonderful people at Hudson's, in Michigan! 😘
As a teenager I had awful acne. I have sensitive snd very greasy skin. Mary Kay products helped clear it without drying like a lot of others did
Wow, this is a blast from the past! As a kid, my neighbor was a Mary Kay lady and she did my make up for homecoming, proms and even my wedding.
We used to live down the street from a Mary Kay lady. She had a big pink Cadillac in her driveway. Her 3 big poodles would somehow escape from her home and they'd be roaming around the neighborhood. Within minutes we'd hear a roaring engine and look out the window to see that big pink Cadillac zooming down the street in reverse - looking for those dogs. She'd collect them all and drive back down to her house. Happened a few times. Just a random story. This was over 20 years ago and that big pink Cadillac is still in her driveway
Fun story❤❤❤
I was a Mary Kay consultant around 1981 while going through a divorce. The weekly meetings were very uplifting and positive. Saw MK at the annual convention in Dallas and she had a great presence on stage. Yes you did have to constantly buy products and my Director kept on telling me to buy stock in the company - always pressuring everyone. When they bought back the company I lost all my money invested in MK Cosmetics stocks!!! This company was definitely a loose-loose situation for me!!!
I did love her lipsticks.
Who is 'they' when they bought back the company?

I’ve used many Mary Kay products over the past 40 years. I was never disappointed in their quality and the parties were great fun. It was always hard to beat their eyeshadows. Similar in quality to Lancôme, another of my very favorite brands throughout my life.
I have been using Mary Kay skincare since I was 23, I’m now 54. People tell me all the time I don’t look my age, however I have good genetics. I’ve tried other products but I always come back to Mary Kay. I do believe the routine that I learned in taking care of my skin through Mary Kat has definitely helped my skin through the years.
Do share xx
I have been a "personal use" consultant for years and I LOVE THIS STUFF!!! You get a substantial discount, and I got a whole bunch of Mary Kay sisters in the process. And I LOVE the TimeWise Repair set, which has done so much good for my skin that I can now use the Miracle Set and only use the Repair set as needed. I am recently retired and have dedicated myself to being a sales director and earning my car. Wish me luck!
🍀
Can I just ask any consultant to sign me up as a "personal use" consultant and they're ok with that? How does it work? Best wishes on your new venture!

I think that you can. You will need to buy the sales kit. I signed up 30 yrs ago, didn’t sell much, and i think i can still buy products because i didn’t return my inventory. I like the oily skin care line
@@RH-tv9hk Yes you can. But I am always interested in a relationship with whomever I am doing business of any kind.

I had a friend who did really well selling Mary Kay. I loved their eye products. I could do my eyes in the morning, work all day, and never had to touch up my eyes. My friend had an established clientele and was the best make up artist. She loved selling Mary Kay. Also, she never recruited any of us like Pyramid schemes do. We were her customers and her friends. We had some of the best Mary Kay parties and she did all the demonstrating and sales.
I worked in Accounting in Corporate Office in Mississauga Ontario Canada. This was back in the 80s. Mary Kay was probably THE BEST Company I ever worked for. They were EXTREMELY generous to the Corporate Employees. Sports Days, Golf Days, Canadas Wonderland, Meals and Hotel stays during Canadian Conventions. I also remember the GREAT Christmas parties and Dinners at top Restaurants 😍😘♥️🥰🇨🇦 Very few Canadian Companies due any of this now. THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY MARY KAY❤. RIP Sweet Lady 🙏🏼🙏🏼
( I did have the GREAT privilege of meeting Mary Kay backstage at Convention one time. This was when Toronto still had the OKeefe Center on Front Street. Mary Kay was stunning and so sweet ❤)
I used Mary Kay products in 1981, and found them heavy and thick, I was 18 years old. I continued to use the products until I was 39. The products ended up being a blessing, because they ended up preserving my skin. I'm now a 60 year old woman whose skin is truly well preserved; i don't have crows feet or lines across the forehead. The consultant taught me how to apply the products and make-up which i believe protected my skin:) It got too expensive and that is why i stopped using the products. I must say these products worked well for me because i had dry skin, maybe I'll try again, who knows.
My mother used them exclusively for 30 yrs and I remember watching her slather on all the balms and creams! She looked a lot younger than her age. She had the same consultant for 30 yrs!
I think you have good genes, and the cream was a bonus.
@@melindacallaghan5367wow ! Same consultant for 30 years is great, never heard of a customer lasting that long with one MK lady.
I have used some of the products for about 40 years but I dislike how they have discontinued so many fragrances & changed the packaging to boring black instead of keeping it their signature pink color. It made it easy to find the MK lipstick among the other generic looking cases. On another note, my cousin, who lives in Plano, TX, used to go to the same church Mary Kay attended.
Agree. I loved their perfumes and bought lots of them for years but I think some of her products are overpriced, especially makeup.
They lost me when they discontinued Journey, my absolute favorite. I still have a bottle that I hold onto til this day. Don't ever want to run out of it.
I loved her signature perfume. Wish it was still available.

My mom was a consultant. She found that she wasn’t the sales type person, but to this day still uses Mary Kay. I used Mary Kay for decades. A family friend of my Husband’s family earned at least one pink Cadillac. She earned a high position during her career. We have another friend who worked for Mary Kay in the lipstick lab.
One episode of Designing Women had Charlene caught up in a sales organization that was bizarrely cultish. Those women were called Junies. Julia saw right through the BS and said so---it's wonderful to have a friend like her.
Um... that wasn't well styled hair, those were wigs.
That's what I said, too.
Correct! 👍🏽
IKR??
Like a drag queen, hey?
In the ‘60s, wigs were extremely popular for cishet straight women.
Very interesting video Laura! Even as a male I have always been interested in Mary Kay. I can recall my mom selling it growing up, and we even went to one of her conventions in Texas. My grandma also used the brand since the 70s and the results are incredible to this day. Really fascinating brand and almost has a mystique that surrounds it!
Most of my first year customers were men and I gave them their orders in brown paper bags so it was kept as our little secret lol. Makes make great consultants too.
I see that "mystique" as a spiritual thing. Mary Kay started her business on Friday the 13th in September of 1963, just blocks away from where Kennedy was killed in November of the same year. JFK's assassination spurred a cascade of difficulty in the US, and I believe that God had a hand in making sure that Mary Kay was around to lend some hope and integrity to the world. ❤❤❤ God First, Family Second, Career Third.
I worked for a Cadillac dealership and we did a couple Mary Kay cars. They get pulled in, have a special pink cover, and it’s a whole thing for them. Super special and the ladies are awesome. As a sales person it’s amazing to see another woman be rewarded for working hard and encouraged by other women
500.00 of products and become consultant and its 256.00 and can be split into payments. Just sighed up this weekend. I signed up for the discount 50 percent of products. I fell in love with all of the products! If sell it’s the icing on the cake. The products are outstanding❤
As a military wife I've been recruited three times for Mary Kay. It definitely has changed over the years. The first time it was $199.00 for your kit. The last time I was encouraged to take out a loan for $5,000 for inventory. I never joined. I used to buy because it was a good product but I think that's even changed.
As a new military bride in 1982,I liked the idea of becoming a Mary Kay consultant. It wasn’t a financial windfall for me but the social side was wonderful. I did attend one Canadian National convention and felt privileged to meet Mary Kay. She imparted her wisdom that women can achieve success. Btw ladies don’t pluck their eyebrows, they tweeze them. (Lol, just one of many sayings that has stuck from that time)
I went to my first Mary Kay party in 1980. I was in love with the products . I’m African-American and at that time it was very hard for me to find products that matched my skin tone. I wore Mary Kay for years . As new products were introduced in stores like Sephora, I found many other options . I stopped using Mary Kay . The other products were easy to find, just walk into a store opposed to calling a Mary Kay consult ,
or going to a party. I tried Mary Kay again about six years ago. I was so disappointed .
I used florie roberts and fashion fair. where are they now?
I am a Mary Kay consultant and love the products. I am a personal use consultant only and am in it for the discount for myself. My upline respects my boundaries and never pressures me to do anything. Those people that have gone bankrupt just need to learn to say no.
Preach girlfriend!
I know the 60/40 rule lol 😊
@@theloveyourfacegal2773 What's the 60/40 rule?

Back in the early80’s i was a teenager when I attended a county fair. There’s was a Mary Kay rep at a booth taking women’s names & addresses offering free makeup consultations at home. She came to my parents home giving me the sales pitch. When I could only afford to buy a tube of mascara, she became angry. I’ll never forget that

I love the Satin Hands kit. The Extra Emollient Night Cream saved my husband's hand quite a few winters working outdoors. I love their Belara perfume, but I don't think they make it anymore. It's a quality line. A friend of mine became very successful quickly within the organization. It saved her home when her husband got severely hurt in construction.
Yes! Satin hands made my hands so soft. Better than anything I’ve ever used
Oh yes I remember using Satin hands I had forgotten about it it was wonderful
We do still make and sell Belara perfume.😊
HELLO LONG AGO I SIGNED UP FOR MARY KEY. I DID LIKE IT BUT I HAD UNEXPECTED THINGS CAME UP. SO, I NEVER MADE A LOT OF MONEY. I WAS YOUNG SO I FELT IT HELPED MY BEGINNING OF TAKING CARE OF MY SKIN. I FEEL SHE WAS A WONDERFUL PERSON.
My brother in law is a mechanic and bought one of those old pink Cadillacs. He thought it was funny driving it around.😂😂
I “sold” Mary Kay in 1991 at the age of 19. All my friends and their moms said they couldn’t afford the starter kit, which is what a customer had to buy initially. I believe it was 3 skin care products for $30, so $10 for each skin care product. $30 was too much for the average gal to want to pay for, for skin care. When I first thought about starting, my recruiter tried to convince me to borrow money from a relative so I could get the starter kit to become a sales lady, which was ridiculous. I hated that she pressured me into borrowing money. I ended up somehow earning the money on my own and bought the starter kit. The only way I was going to earn money was if I recruited multiple people under me and I would get a percentage of their sales. I hated it. I ended up using all the products myself as I wasn’t a good salesperson I guess.
I don't think it was you. It was the training you got.
I’ve used Mary Kay cosmetics for over forty years and I doubt I will ever use anything else. I live the way my skin looks and feels.
When I was a kid in the 90s my mom liked to go "dumpster diving" because we lived in a college town and people threw a lot away. One time she got two big cases of Mary Kay items. One was foundations and one was lipsticks. We got to use it for playing dress up. Never used one of their products as an adult tho.
I was introduced Mary Kay in 1998, I bought my first skincare set. I've been a consultant to be my own wholesaler off and on several times over the years. It can be a good thing if your busy like me and just put in a few orders a year for stuff you would use yourself.
I sold Mary Kay in the early 2000s. I earned a red jacket and went to Dallas for annual workshops. I wasn't able to use any of the skin care or cosmetics before then due to allergic reactions except for lip gloss. I'd go to parties, apply to half of my face as instructed, and immediately swell up. I'd buy a lip gloss though to help the consultant. Best lip gloss I'd tried! Finally with changes in products I was able to buy and then sell. I hated having to wear pantyhose and skirts. Do they still do that? I still use the eye makeup remover. Best out there!
My friend's older sister sold Mary Kay in the late 1990s and I don't think she wore panty hose. But maybe she didn't dress up for us since we were still kids. ;)

I never sold Mary Kay, but in the late 80s, I was wearing the products. The products were awesome! Blew away Cover Girl and Maybelline. The consultants were very knowledgeable and helpful in finding the correct shade of foundation and light, moisturizing qualities that never caused clogged pores. The only time in my life that I approved of makeup because it felt and looked so natural as if I were wearing nothing but had flawless skin. Having olive complexion, it was difficult until Mary Kay, to look natural wearing makeup. My “ roaring 20s”😊👍

I started using Mary Kay products when I was 18 years old back in the 60's . I continue to use their products to this day . I do miss the original products . Things changed when her son took over the company. Please bring back the original products . They were better
Mary Kay had the best clear lip gloss! I use to wear it when I was in middle school. It had the best shine and smell.
What was the product called ?
Her base went in like butter❤️ I simply loved her products and black bags that an employee would receive when she started her selling career.
I have been using MK for years. Love it my consultant is always helpful, never pushy and I love that she delivers! Try the Timewise line… it’s really great! 💕
I sold Mary Kay cosmetics a long time ago. I liked the products and made some good sales, but I didn't recruit anyone else, and that is how they make their money. Each consultant was to recruit a team of about 10 more consultants. A portion of their earnings would be reflected in the first consultant's reports, thus she gets credit for the sales while the others did the work. So, yeah, a pyramid scheme, but it was fun and exciting for a while, and it really built my confidence. The products were good, and the #2 moisturizer left my skin feeling sooo smooth.
The sales presentation was brief and helpful, just basic skin care and light makeup, but most ladies really liked how they looked. That's what made it so popular.
My aunt currently sells Mary Kay and I’m obsessed with their mascara and charcoal mask!
I sold Mary Kay . I loved the femininity of how they want you to be . It worked for me . Skin care line is good , the lipstick is wonderful . I did not like the purchasing of the product . I did love how Mary Kay wanted a dress code that was very professional and elegant and feminine .
I was a top sales director in MK for 3 years. I had the cars and still have my BB pins! It was a dream time but going high in the company required more effort to keep this position and I didn't stay at that level long. I don't regret my years in MK
My Mom sold Mary Kay in the 70’s & her confidence soared. She started driving, found it to be a challenging career & got her out of the house. She loved it. I recall loving looking at her starter kit & wishing I could play in that beautiful makeup. She never did get her Pink Cadillac but it gave her such a boost of confidence. All I recal us that BLUE Eyeshadow & the pink compact.
I use to buy some products. I will say that 2 of my friends have sold MK for years and their daughters now do as well. They are gorgeous and don’t seem to age. Both are in their 60’s. I haven’t heard anything bad. I just like trying different things.
Mary Kay cosmetics occupies this year the 10th most profitable global cosmetic company reporting gains of $3.2 billion. Regardless of opinions it is still a very strong company. They must be doing something right
She was married three times. Yes she is doing something good alright. Scheming with a ponzi scheme
I’ve been selling Mary Kay since 2003 and it’s been great. Yes you do have to pay to start by buying the start up kit. It’s never caused me family problems, in fact that’s laughable. I am not seeking a pink Cadillac so for me to have my own skin care paid for by my customers is on with me. It’s been more challenging since stores like ULTA popped up and the kids are happier spending way more money for inferior products but I stay in my lane. I’m super happy with the products.
As a 24 year old young wife & mother, I became an MK consultant in 1994 because the skincare system actually worked on my highly sensitive, oily skin. I rarely wore makeup, but when I did, Toffee lipstick was my favorite! Back then, we were required to wear makeup at events. I bought a bunch of inventory, but wound up stuck with it when we moved from Washington to Kansas. The market in Kansas was saturated. Everyone either already had a consultant, had tried it before & weren't interested in trying it again, or were a consultant themselves! 😂
Kudos for your efforts in any event, my friend! Everyone misses that Toffee lipstick!
A lady that my Mom used to work with sold Mary Kay products. Idk if she actually made any money from it, but I remember attending a few parties that my Mom and Aunts hosted. My Mom didnt wear a ton of makeup, but she mostly used Mary Kay, as well as one of their facial moisturizers and the Satin Hands line until the 2000s when it started getting too expensive. One of my Aunts used the TimeWise skincare for like 15 years, and her skin always looked great. Im pretty sure it's all overpriced, but it definitely holds nostalgia for me.
I was an MK consultant for about 10 years. It was a remarkable time in my life. I still wear my 17 diamond ring I won in the Queen's Court of Sales. I was the Queen of my unit that year!! Both my children have been entrepreneurs throughout their lives and I believe it was the example I set when they were small children.
I am from Mexico and here you can still hear some from Mary Kay. I remember I attended 2 Mary Kay parties, once in my mom’s house when I was 16 and the other one in the company’s office I was working on when I was 25. Also I can remember Mary Kay was a bit of expensive compared to other cosmetics at least here, besides that I always had my makeup remover since my 16s until I got married, just lately I started using different ones, I had a timewise foundation once but don’t remember anything special about it, and still to this day I have a gel eye liner and couple bullet lipsticks from Mary Kay that I use often. Anyway, this cosmetics are now here like for the old ladies and younger generations does not even know about it. :) greetings from Chihuahua Mexico 😘

I sold Mary Kay in 2012 - 2016 . I loved the TimeWise Repair for advanced signs of aging . I did make a generous profit . But , I became interested in Plantbased skincare . So , I left the company . I still have alot of tespect of the company and the Mary Kay Ash Family .
I sold MK about 35 years ago. It is a MLM scheme. The ones who make the most money were at the top of the pyramid, of course. I attended a convention and had never experienced anything like that before then.
The thing was, it took up a lot of my time. I had a full time day job, a family and taking care of my ill mother so I had to quit after about a year, because I didn't make enough to quit my job.
I didn't get a pink Cadillac, but I still have the pink Cadillac calculator I was awarded. The trunk opened up to expose the calculator.
I later found out that the real Cadillacs they gave was actually a lease.
I sold Mary Kaye in my 20s and actually made pretty good money. I understand that it's a lot more difficult today, however. I used the products for 30 years and my skin looks much younger to this day. Thank you for the memories ☺️
I love this Mary Kay story you did 💖. I used to model in their fashion shows that they held for their reps at the Dallas Convention Center. The fashion shows were so much fun, we would do 2-3 shows a day for all the reps from all over the country. They had video walls of the show like you were at a concert. Another time I modeled in a fashion show held at Mary Kay's home in Dallas. I also modeled for one of their beauty campaigns on the cover of a brochure that the reps gave to their customers, it was for foundation, it was me and two other women. I also modeled for their brochures wearing furs that the reps could win, this was in the late 80's and early 90s. I love all your videos. I want to thank Mary Kay company and family too for all the modeling work I did for them.
I'm a Mary Kay baby. At the age of 15 Year old I went to my very first Mary Kay party and I won a face cream that I love for my face and since then I've been using Mary Kay products. I am now 52 I get lots of compliments on how beautiful my skin is and how I don't look my age thank you Mary Kay.💝💝💝💝
I first bought Mary Kay products in the 80s. I think it was the basic set with moisturizer and facewash. Then around 2012, I started using Timewise products for aging skin. I used them for a few years but stopped after my Mary Kay lady stopped selling it. The products were nice. I'm glad that Mary Kaye is still selling all over the world.
I sold MK in the 1980s and it was a great experience for a 19 year old girl. I paid 200$ for my kit. The job is pretty hard because you have so many events and approach people you don't know. I had a great experience. The negative is you must buy so much product if you're selling a lot because the company wants you to have the product right then so women don't have to wait. The products were great!
I used the products for many years… I think it helped keep my skin young and would use it again. I miss the vintage pink
I’m the late 90’s/early 2000’s I sold Mary Kay. My Director was Trish Reuser. She was one of the early Directors receiving her first pink Cadillac im 1980. I made many trips to Dallas to the annual Convention. We were Emeralds. I learned so much. It was great therapy too.
I become Mary kay consultant in the 1990 and spend $300 to 400 dollars. Ended giving my make up and products to my family as gifts. I still have my pins.
I was a consultant in the UK around 2012-2013. We did need to purchase & hold inventory and as the products have a shelf life this could be problematic. One had to be able to predict what would sell. Every quarter they would issue special short-term products also. The guidance was that you had to have one of everything for customers to try.
That’s a lot of pressure
Like many MLMs the real money was in recruiting a team & getting them to buy stock. It was hard work & the trend was away from home parties. At a retail level the products were aimed at the Clinique/Estee Lauder/Clarins level, so relatively expensive, for a virtually unknown brand in the UK.
Oh wow this brand really takes me back to the 70's and 80's.. My mom bought Mary Kay and i loved sneaking into her makeup bag when i was little. When I became a teenager in the mid 80's, my mom would let me use her Mary Kay products sometimes. I loved the lipbrush that came with the lipstick; everytime i used it i felt so glamorous 💃💃💃 Mary Kay felt high end compared to the Covergirl products i had of my own at the time. Up here in Canada Avon was more popular, but Mary Kay was considered a lil higher end and i think it may have been more expensive than Avon too.
Thank you so much for the top shelf content gurl.. and for the lil stroll down memory lane. You're awesome!❤❤❤💄💄💄😘😘😘
It's because it's sold in Europe it has to be up to European standards. Over 1200 ingredients aren't allowed in Europe as they are safe.😊
I was a consultant for over 10 years, but I never made money at it. I did make friends and enjoy the empowerment. I learned a lot of great information that made me a better manager at my day job. The product is excellent. I do still have a pile of it in my basement that I never sold. The only way to make money (in my opinion) was to recruit additional consultants which I never did.
I used Mary Kay from the time I was 17/18 years old. I LOVED this product it made my skin look great, it’s like if you saw someone with it on you knew it. I later on when I was in my 40’s stopped using it because they kept changing the formula and I was very unhappy with it. The only thing I use now is the Extra Emollient Night Cream but only on my lips at night. I just loved the product that they had in the 70’s you put it on with water and your skin looked great but I know a lot of people didn’t like it. I sold it for a while but I didn’t make any money because I kept investing my money in product, I returned my product at one point and went out.
I have never understood the mlm companies. Why companies prefer to sell their products through particular sellers instead of shops? Specially since some of the sellers, representatives, consultants or whatever they want to called them don’t have enough knowledge of the products they are selling in first place. It a very dangerous adventure for the sellers to invest in mlm companies. I always though of these companies as blood suckers who only want money, even though it can destroy the lives and confidence of innocent sellers in the majority of cases. You can always see there are more sellers loosing money than sellers making profits, let along sellers earning big amounts of money.
I think you answered your own question! It's about squeezing out as much money as possible and more about recruiting than the product, typically.
Fascinating video! Thanks for sharing! I admire the perseverance, determination and creativity of Mary Kay in building her cosmetic empire. But I’ve always preferred Avon cosmetics and their other products for the home and the rest of the family.
I have three video requests:
Please post one on the rise and fall of Ebony Fashion Fair Cosmetic Company, one on Essence Magazine Company, and a video on Madam C.J. Walker Cosmetic Company.
I’m also curious about the cosmetics that were available for Black women and other women of color over the decades, especially foundation and face powder shades. Did Hollywood makeup artists and makeup manufacturers formulate colors just for minority actresses and actors? What did the average woman of color use for matching their makeup to their darker skin tones? Future videos on these topics would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I bought Mary Kay in the 80s and 90s. I haven't for awhile, but the products I feel are good. There were always someone at my job who were selling it back them.
I always enjoy your videos. I would like to see a video on Merle Norman and perhaps Vivienne Woodard.
Thanks for the suggestions
Yes, I’d definitely watch a Merle Norman video. A friend of mine owned a franchise for years but recently sold it. I did really enjoy some of the products.
@@MandyLeeLilac I remember the Miracol mask Merle Norman had. Did wonders for my oily broken out young skin!
I was about 15 years old. My first makeover was at MN. When I left, I felt that I had so much makeup on. Lol I'd love to watch a video!
My old neighbor in the early 80s sold Mary Kay. From what I remember, she did ok and continued for a few years. She had some parties and my mother bought a few products, but was disappointed in the quality. I always loved that cute logo with the K added to the Y, it reminded me and still does of a fashion logo. Great video! ❤
In the late 1970 I sold Mary Kay like a lot of women. I lost money I was left with a bunch of products I couldn't sell. I ended up giving it away as gifts to friends and family
I used to sell Mary kay and as I have used it since I was 17 they seriously work! The time wise skincare and makeup is fabulous and I can never be out of the skin care or the makeup remover I have to have my favorites
Iam a Mary Kay consultant. I’ve been back in for 6 years. I have been to Career Conference once. I’m working on going to Dallas next year
Thanks for a very-well done video. I used the Mary Kay products back in the day. They were high quality yet a tad expensive. In any case, Mary Kay Ash should be celebrated for her business acumen and her religious dedication. She contributed significantly to women's earnings and their self-confidence. Today, the Pink Cadillacs would be considered hokey. However, back then, this vehicle was a status symbol. Thank you again!
I made a mistake by spending a lot of money purchasing Mary Kay products as a new consultant. I should have started with the basics in smaller quantities instead of overspending before I got my career off the ground. I sold some, but was never successful at it. There were a lot of products that I didn't like and had difficulty selling those products because I wasn't sold on them. I also didn't like that the person that recruited me made a lot of money off of me while I was struggling to sell the products I purchased to sell. I guess I just wasn't cut out to be a salesperson. I wore makeup but never wore much of Mary Kay's line as I preferred other more upscale brands over Mary Kay. I think people can be very successful in this kind of business if they are right for this kind of career, it just wasn't for me.
I had a classmate in grad school who sold Mary Kay products and I loved the lipsticks as they look good on me, notably their pinks and nude shades. It was around 2015. Mary Kay is still sort of a thing in my country.
I am Russian, and Mary Kay makeup was introduced to our market in the mid-90s. Boy, it was expensive back then😂. But my mom had bought a number of her make-up and it was wonderful. Her favorite perfumes were Ballara, Velocity, and Bamboo. Very honest products - the makeup that stays on, the fragrances that last.
Went to my first party at 18 was a consultant at 19. I did quite well in the beginning doing 5 parties a week. Even had a pink Buick Regal. After the babies I just didn’t have that kind of time or energy as at 20 I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes. Those were the 70’s without today’s technology. At 68 I still wear Mary Kay skin care and the compliments I receive regularly on my skin and they say I don’t look my age!!! My only negative was them constantly changing products I loved! Either the recipe wasn’t the same or product was discontinued.
Mary Kay was also passed over for a promotion at her old job at Stanley Home Products for a man… a man she trained.
This brought back memories my mom would sell Mary Kay in the early 00s I would use the products as well.
Oh neat did you like them?
@@Laurajaneatelier Oh yes my fav were the lipgloss, makeup bags and creams my mom wouldn't let me wear makeup. But she did allow lipgloss and nude and mauve lipsticks once in a while. But my favorite were the pink and champagne color lipgloss 😍
I wore Mary Kay as a young African American woman. I trasitioned to Fashion Fair. I now use MAC products. This video brings back memories
Many years ago I had a friend who sold Mary Kay products and I remember I had a raisin-like color lip liner that I really loved from them😊
My friend sold Mary Kay for about 4 years but she invested way more $$ into having her stock than she made. In the end she bundled it all and sold the whole lot on ebay
I signed up to be a MK consultant years ago just so I could get the products for 50% off. Love Time Wise and the Satin Hands.
What scandal….
As a 50yo women this was my first skin care routine. MaryKay had great skin care products and makeup!
BEST mascara EVER!
I've known a handful of women who were very, VERY successful with Mary Kay Cosmetics
Mary Kay Ash's "meticulously styled hair" was a wig. LOL
Yes, I sold Mary Kay. I still use the concealer. I like some of the products. I learned a lot as a beauty consultant, I still use the techniques I learned. But it's true, only a few die hards, who willing to give up their lives, made any money. Mary Kay built an empire, that's for sure! Thanks for the full story, I enjoyed it!
I like the time wise set. I used it as directed with their retinol product and I could see a difference in my skin. I think there are two sets one is regular time wise and one is for more mature skin.
Oh interesting thanks for the feedback
@Laurajaneatelier Timewise Repair set is the version for mature skin. I've used Mary Kay skin care since the 80's and Timewise Repair for about 20 years. I had a doctors appointment last Monday and 2 nurses remarked on my great skin. I'm 69.
