    Sarah, thanks. for your words. I'm 78, have book studied Vajrayana many years, attended retreats but have no "teacher." I'm open to, and to some extent, seek one. One who is available is too expensive. Another I'm attracted to has many students & lives on another continent. You say I'm not getting the essence of the teaching without a teacher is distressing. I persist but I'd like to have the practices and guidance needed.

      Hmm, if you have no teacher you have to be your own teacher. And maybe that's good enough, maybe that's better. Life is the ultimate teacher. We can't escape it. We can't escape others. The tools are out there and available to all now given the wealth of knowledge modalities and accessibility.
