    The choir at the end is a nice touch, though it would have been nice to hear the choir more throughout the piece on some of the other student songs that Brahms uses.

      I agree. Though I'm old, I'm not a late 19th century german student! I don't know the songs either. On a purely musical basis, the overture is wonderful. A separate choral recording of the songs from the Academic Festival Overture would be fun!

      @@robertdeland3390 For most of them it isn't practical because of how they're used, akin to Le Marsallaise in the 1812 overture (which you never hear the choir join in on in choral versions). But it would work at 1:40 (I know that's a quoted song, not sure what it's called).

      If i remember correctly, some of these are drinking songs that have very irreverent lyrics. That's probably why a full choral setting is not that feasible in many contexts (including Brahms's original doctorate ceremony)
