Today I got a compliment on my plus size, maxi, one and a half circle, skirt that I made a few years ago from two brocade tablecloths in two shades of dark green, with the nap improperly matched. I sewed a button at the center front waist so I can tell where the front is. I call it a belly button.
The struggle against unisex is real!!! My work uniforms were unisex. The back seam allowance of the pants was half an inch at the full bum, and increased to 3 inches at the waist, in order to accommodate a woman's smaller circumference. That made the back waist line V shaped, and so uncomfortable. Thanks for listing all the sewists participating in the challenge. More channels to check out. I think I can thank Stephanie Canada for introducing me to your channel.
I’ve made a few skirts from sheets we don’t use anymore. Anytime I’m making petty coats I use sheets as well. I like full skirts and petty coats are a thing for me. Honestly I’m not great at thrift stores. I never find anything at them. If you’re going to make your tees into something new, just back the fabric. If you don’t, they roll a lot. I’ve made a few tee shirt quilts.
These upcycle ideas are great, I'll look forward to seeing those t-shirts combined into one top. Great that the FBA has already been done on the cashmerette pattern ☺️👍. Sheets are a great thing to use for upcycling or making a wearable toile/mock up. Thanks so much for joining in with this challenge 😊 xx
I have struggled for decades to put bust room in tops. The best I have come up with is to cut a diagonal from near the arm hole down toward the cleavage leaving an inch in the center . Forming a yoke. Then cut straight down from the arm hole end of the cut to the hem. I gather the top of that and sew it back to the yoke and add a similar/ contrast piece to fill the gap. I am interested to see your ideas .
I have been thinking about upcycling unisex Ts too. I have a huge collection from years of library summer reading programs and almost all of them have horrible high crew necks and boxy shapes. Good idea about the raglan. I was thinking about using a woven pattern instead of altering a stretch knit one. Cute idea about the F&M one!
Thanks for taking part in the upcycling challenge ❤ using sheets is a great way to upcycle. I’ve made a dress before from a duvet cover and it worked out well x
Very good ideas... check out the Eloise by Made for Mermaids its a good replacement for the last blouse n it goes up large enough... you made me look at this pattern with more possibilities... as for Cashmerette have you thought about a "woven" T pattern like the Montrose or the Kiniton (spelling!!!) Use for everything woven but the front piece... even make woven front shoulder insets (yokes) n place the knit panel below... have you seen the Lincoln top by Love Notions with the angles side seams ??? Can't wait to see your refashions...
I will have a look! I did make the top up already, and yes I think I would have been better with a woven. Or like the darted sweater cashmerette has. Live and learn. I will check out those other patterns though!
I just left a comment on your IG because I had to find out what you decided on! I'm with you on unisex (aka men's) tee shirts. They haven't fit me since I was 10. If it's a graphic tee that I actually want or have to wear, I'll always buy the biggest size available and re-make it. Unless the biggest size is still too small, which happens a lot.
Yes it is sort of an odd format for this challenge where they didnt want you to show the completed until a certain date, so sorry you had to go over there. Now that there is music on youtube shorts, I have things in both places. But yeah mens shirts suck. I don't think this was my best remake, like you say, I think I would need a really big shirt to make it work well.

You are like having a friend in the sewing circle
Aww thank you so much!
“Someone gave up on their podcasting dreams” 😂 Yep you got a steal of a deal!
I was so excited! I think the video does sound a lot better and I wasnt tripping on cords the whole time.

Yes I know what you mean. I hate that mens is always the default. I appreciate you stopping by!

Lol "no pets" loved the photo you chose.
I am glad someone enjoyed it 😝
OMG I was just thinking (watching your red dress vid) you would look great in an Adrienne blouse. I am super interested in these hacks.

That would be a good idea too! Might be better, I still have a couple puckers in mine.
