      @@Blufishii nope was not a horror. i see where you’re coming from but your last sentence makes no sense. i think it was criminally overrated, but i wouldnt put it in my list of worst movies. it was average. it wasnt as bad as candyman thats for sure… it was a “suspense thriller” US was much more of a horror movie than NOPE and it was significantly better. to say jordan peele cannot create horror is just wrong.

    As a black man, one of the things I appreciate most about Peele is his ability to help his white audience members begin to understand and, more importantly, empathize with our unique black American experience. I can't think of another black film maker who has been as effective a bridge of understanding thru their work and thru events like this one. It's tough being black in America and the kind of progress we need to make will require white allies who are as invested as POC are!

      D LG I'm not trying to be disagreeable but white folk have had MORE than enough opportunity to understand our so called perspective or plight. They don't understand because they don't want to. They are comfortable with white supremacy and feel no imperative to change. A movie even though it is an excellent one won't make a difference. Their ignorance is intentional. The signs are all around you.

    I once read that in order to have a successful conversation, attempt to repeat what the person says in a manner that they’re able to stop and say “I never thought to say it like that but yeah, that’s what I meant.” It not only shows that you’re listening but it shows a comprehensive internalization of what the other person says.

    • @FishCakeFlims
      @FishCakeFlims 6 лет назад +5

      David Dutton i think its already a major accomplishment that Get Out got nominated, especially seeing as its a genre film. The oscars are industry awards so if it doesn't win thats more a case of Get Out running against more highly regarded films. Still, the fact that a horror comedy that analyzes a new aspect of racial tension in the US got nominated, hes already won so much. The Oscars have an annoying history of giving the award to safe biopics and "oscar bait". I love that this movie is in the mix, cause its only gotten better with repeated viewings and never feels like its lecturing me about social issues. I give a shit about Chris. I feel his discomfort about being put in a space because of his race. But goddamn do i get amped up in the finale.

    • @withnail-and-i
      @withnail-and-i 6 лет назад +2

      Not really. Best picture, best screenplay? Sure. But the directing was definitely the weakest link in the movie (which is normal considering it's his first movie). Nolan and Del Toro definitely deserve this one (actually Denis Villeneuve but he's not even nominated)

    • @JC-ev2ns
      @JC-ev2ns 6 лет назад +2

      David Dutton it would be AWESOME! But unfortunately the most likely category “screenplay” is such a stacked category that will likely be won by Ladybird or The Big Sick. All the nominations (at least 4 I can think of) are already a great and impressive accomplishment though

    I will correct Jordan on one thing: there are two people who have big budgets to make original content - James Cameron and Christopher Nolan.

    I´ve seen Denzel talking to young minds and thinkers and it was great. But Jordan reached this point in his career very early from a paralell side in the creative world with a heavy political and social statement of a movie and like a reflex built on it by talking to those young minds in that crest of the wave to strengthen the comunity and society.
    And I really like that he knows all the compliments of being an Oscar nominee means a whole different thing to him that mainstream media does. And accept them with grace.
    And also, it´s great that him and Keegan have to say they are Nerds, or biracial to get a pun or joke across. Because they got to a point that nobody raises any question or say "oh you like star wars you geek!".

It clearly was being recorded by the person holding the camera here so there's no need for everyone to have recorded it anyway.

      I don't understand this notion people have of "living in the moment" and filming something on their phone being somehow disconnected and separate. You can be recording something and still paying attention. It's not difficult. They're in a lecture here for their university course, maybe they'd just quite like to be able to have record and keep note of something a filmmaker just said that might help them with something.

    I wish I liked horror. Really need to see his movies but I'm scared. But I watch all of his comedy clips with Key.

    9.09 question is basically 'is the progress being made in the equality of representation of race and culture in storytelling a fad or are Americans finally coming to their senses and making progress'. Somehow questioning the permanence of this feels an awful lot like questioning the legitimacy of a society depicting an accurate and diverse representation of black people, black culture in television, film and storytelling. Is progress just a fad... I mean seriously! not if you treat the issue - lack of representation and misrepresentation of culture, race (and sex if you want to digress)with the respect it deserves. Since when are black stories and storytellers less interesting, less hilarious, less unique, less fierce, less kind, less dynamic, less passionate, less romantic, less human? since never! We want to see them and we want them to be written by people who know what they're fucking talking about.
