One interesting thing I've noticed about Stormlight art is that nobody draws Parshendi/Singers the same.
I always imagine them without a base color, just different swirling streaks.
@@aidengray3998 For some reason I imagine the femalen with a base color and swirling streaks, but I imagine the malen with more marbled skin, or lightning-like streaks.
I always imagine them as crab people.
Mostly because some people think of them as more crab-like and some of them think of them as more human-like. they also have very intricate skin patterns.
I just think of them as normal people with marbled skin color (kinda like a more artistic vitiligo,) barring additional carapace depending on form.
It's great that you have a relationship strong enough that your son feels comfortable to speak his ideas. Well done. Say no to Disney.

Yeah, there's a lot of details that are easy to miss.
1) Brandon himself is somewhat chubby, but the kid is in perfect shape for his age. That's a sign of good parenting, usually kids are heavier than the parents.
2) The kid reads.
3) Brandon knows how to explain stuff when Oliver asks. A lot of parents simply don't bother, or give up if the kid doesn't immediately get it.
4) He's not trying to make Oliver like what he likes. You're into art? Different youtubers? Good for ya! Brandon incentivizes Oliver to not only talk about what he likes, but actively go for it.
Its simple stuff for the most part, and when you grow up in a good environment its hard to tell how often people go without some of it.
Of Course Sando likes the crab level of Katamari, he literally made a crab planet.
I was thinking the exact same thing.

Butcher believed that a good enough writer can make a good story out of any idea, no matter how stupid. But this reader believed that some ideas are too inherently bad to do anything good with them. So, Butcher made this reader a bet: come up with the WORST idea they could think of, and Butcher would write a book based on it. The reader chose the following idea: the Roman Legion meets Pokémon. And from that idea, Jim Butcher wrote Codex Alera: a series set in a world where everyone is bonded to an elemental spirit called a fury; everyone, that is, except for our hero, Tavi. throwing shade at GRRM at the end... I like it! A few years ago, I would have scoffed at anyone who said Brandon was the better fantasy author, but since Dance with Dragons released, Brandon has released 3 Stormlight books and several other novels of exceptional quality. He's proven to be not only a much more consistent writer, but he engages with his community in an amazing way, and his writing seems to get better with ever book.
Don't get me wrong, I love ASoIaF, but the Cosmere is growing into something truly special, and I actually have faith in Brandon to get it done by the time he retires or leaves this life, and that matters quite a bit. GRRM has seemed to have lost his passion for writing fantasy, meanwhile Brando Sando seems like he's just getting started. I cannot wait to see where he takes the story next.

To be honest, GRRM has written himself into a bit of a bind, I think mostly due to the sheer lack of editing.
In the fifth book (of a planned seven) he is *still* introducing new plot lines and characters, with their own motivations and plans, while still requiring his main plot lines (Danny, Jon, Tyrion, Arya, Euron, Cersei and Bran) to be resolved, and that's not counting Stoneheart, Brienne, Sansa, Baelish, Varys and Jaime with their overall, more character driven arcs.
It must be an absolute nightmare to navigate, figure out a way to bring everyone together, figure out the main issues (the Iron Throne, the Battle of Winterfell, and The Others), and wrap the story up in a way that feels decisive, earned and bittersweet.

It's always odd for me to hear the way an author pronounces the name of their characters. I always pronounced Shallan like SHALL an. And I pronounce Jasnah like JAZZ nah. And Adolin like "Battle in". Oh, and I always pronounced both the S and the Z in Szeth. But, he's the author, so I guess his way is official.
I love how you rhyme Adolin with “battle in”! I say it the same. My dad introduced me to these books and he says SHALLan, I say shaLLAN. Jasnah was like Jasmine, and Szeth was a sort of Zheth, cuz how do you say SZ?

As someone who also pronounces the "Sz" in Szeth's name: I basically just pronounce the "s" twice and separate the name into two syllables. The first S is a bit softer and bleeds into the Z, which kinda sounds like a mosquito buzzing in your ear at three in the morning. Ss-zeth.

Man, I can’t wait for your books to be made more famous by adaptations. You set the standard for accessibility and humanity, and everyone is gonna get to experience that.
Also, one of my favorite things about Brando Sando is his usage of RUclipsrs to understand things outside his sphere. The life of a generalist is something I really relate to, and it’s bizarre and awesome to find that he watches SuperEyepatchWolf. I’m gonna go post that and make him embarrassed.
It’s exciting when someone is about to read a good fantasy book for the first time. It’ll be a unique, 10x mind-blowing experience for Oliver when he starts reading his dads books and truly gets an idea of the scope, artistry and sheer volume of the work.

Wow, I pronounced... Every one of them wrong except Kaladin, and that's cheating because it's literally just the word Paladin.
For some reason I always read it as Ahdolin, not Aydolin. Didn't realise Jasnah had a J like in German, I stressed Shallan on the first syllable so Shahllin not Shallawn.
Really cool to actually hear them said out loud, sort of realise the characters I have in my head aren't the same as the ones Sanderson had in his head when he put them on the page.
Good thing he isn't a stickler for pronouncing them correctly. He's perfectly fine with your headcannon for them.

I just wanted to say thank you. I suffer from depression and I always felt so alone and confused. I felt ashamed of my weakness. It’s funny because to the world I am superman. I am a nurse at work and I always take the hardest assignments and come through, I am the only one on my family of immigrants whom clawed himself to multiple degrees, and I have been described as the inspiration... all along I don’t see any of that. I feel weak, overwhelmed, and my thoughts are on repeat of every little mistake making me hate myself. Than I read your book and found someone whom just like me hates themselves and fights depression and suicide so often life seems a constant fight. I identify with Kaladin so much specially when fighting the pursuer he screams that he doesn’t fear him because death chases him everyday.
I just want to say thank you for making me feel proud of fighting depression and just like Kaladin being a bit nicer to myself.
