- Ivy Austin created the role of a boneless rag dolly in a Joe Raposo/William Gibson musical directed by Patricia Birch. The production made history in the Soviet Union in 1986, marking the renewal of cultural relations between our countries. Ivy returned to the U.S. to find herself on the front pages of The Daily News and The Economist, and the subject of many news articles and talk shows. Later that year, "Raggedy Ann" opened in New York at The Nederlander Theatre, where Ivy Austin made her Broadway debut in the title role.

@@gwynfromRARE Bless you RARE, you legends!
Its chilling how perfect her voice is
If I could travel back in time to watch one thing, this beautiful production would probably be it ❤️
THANK YOU, IVY!

You were the one who got me really into learning more about this musical with the video you made a year ago, and now I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole of searching for more information. Thank you for introducing me to the enchantment of this musical, and for your wonderful video! Can’t wait to see more!
I honestly prefer ivy Austin's voice for raggedy Ann than Didi con did in the animated movie. She brings so much life and innocence to the character.
I was lucky enough to play one of the reed books for this show during the three years that it was performed in Albany. Unfortunately, only the rhythm section was invited to the USSR. What a tremendous experience!!!
Ivy thank you so much for posting this! I strongly feel Broadway completely overlooked this lost gem. This musical give me such a impact it actually inspired me to work on my own musical. Thank you Ivy! You are a Rag Dolly!
So this is what the play looks like with visuals! I imagined the sets to be a little weirder, General D dressed more like a pirate, and what else have you. Like Didi Conn before you, you make a cute Raggedy Ann.
CHECK THE RAG DOLLY CHANNEL ASAP!!
I’m so Happy they finally found the play.
Dearest Ivy, I have not seen this in 30 years! What a surprise to find it and what a thrill to re-live it through this extraordinary documentary. Wow! I hope you are well and I wish you the best always. You were just fabulous in this... what a versatile artist!

Thanks, Ivy! I'm a friend of Colin's and I've been eager to see this too
Ms. Austin, your performance was great! Thanks for sharing this fascinating story.
Woah I would do anything to be in this musical, it seems so fun. I’ve cosplayed Andy before, I’m working on an Ann cosplay soon since I can do her voice pretty well :D
Wow, thank you so much for sharing this, Ivy! I sincerely hope that someday the full play surfaces (I read in an old article that videos of the performances were retained in Moscow) because this show looks even wilder than I'd envisioned it while listening to the bootlegs!
Thank you for sharing, Ivy....and for your support 30 years later of our Orphan Train at Grand Central. Alas I did the NYSTI (ESIPA) mega shows before (All-Time Good-Time Knickerbocker Follies) and after (Peter Pan) Rag Dolly so I could recognize most all of the people in the documentary as well as the venue. What a joy it was to bring Peter Pan to them just a few years later! Thanks again for posting.
I’ve been listening to the songs and what we have non stop this is like the best musical ever
I love Ivy Austin.
thanks for posting this! love this musical so much, wish there was a recording available of the whole thing
Thank you so much for posting this video!!! Really wish I could have seen the show, especially since I love the animated movie so much and Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls.
Wow! The song "Blue" sounds great! Joe Aroeste sang his heart out! I have heard the demo version of it, but I would love to hear the fully orchestrated version. Thank you so much, Ivy for posting this. You are wonderful!
thanks for sharing this!
And I love ur laugh
I wish that the Raggedy Ann Broadway show was on or still a thing
I'm a huge fan of Joe Raposo's music. He was taken way, way too soon. Finding this video is like finding a Holy Grail of Raposo memorabilia. You knew Joe was happy with something when he would say, "Hot Dog!"☺
intresting video, I enjoyed listening to it.
Ivy u look beautiful as raggedy Ann and the song's u been singing thanks ivy
( Remake srry😶)
this is absolutely beautiful, got me a little teary eyed. thank you so much for sharing this with us
Thank you very much for uploading it. Raggedy Ann is a beautiful musical. Your performance of Raggedy Ann was wonderful. 😀
I imagine that if this musical happened after Chernobyl it must have touched a lot of people and children who have or had relatives that were sick and they couldn’t visit them.
oh how I would love to see this live
"why are you so quiet? what's on you're mind?"
me: 15:05-16:34

21:54-22:05,my fave part
another one of my fave parts are 15:35-15:42:)
Where can I watch or hear the russian version of the musical?
lost media i think.
How beautiful to sing Woody Guthrie's This Land Is Your Land. This song should be our National Anthem. As an aside, this play is unpleasant and strife filled. Seeing it as an adult it knotted my stomach. Not for children. Cannot understand why Joe Raposo would have such a nightmare in his repetoire.
