After watching several clips of the MONKEES and remembering the TV show, I just can't help smiling... I will probably still be smiling tomorrow when I wake up too! lol
They then did something that topped the Beatles. They actually became a band. With all the pressure on them to do the show and make their appearances and being blasted by critics at every turn they became a "real" band and started to write their own songs and play instruments some only had a short time to learn. They played at sold out concerts and rubbed elbows with the Beatles. They did something amazing and never got respect for the true artists they were. They are iconic themselves.
Wether The Monkees played all their own instruments or not the fact is their songs can stand proud against anything The Beatles produced. To me 'Last Train to Clarksville' is possibly the most iconic song of the 60's. I was lucky enough to see the Monkees live (all 4 of them) several years ago in Manchester and thought they were fantastic.
The Monkeeys rocked! I didnt like the Beatles at all. I was born in 1960. That started me on the music I listen to now. I listen to Metal, Hard Rosk, Ballads, New Country, Oldie of course..70's classics... some 80's classics. I mean The Monkees are my first love in music.
He did not joined them during The Monkees' 1986 20th Reunion Tour, because of their scheduling conflicts. But, he did joined them at LA's Greek Theatre in 1986.
Born in 1960! The Monkeeys were way better than the Beatles. Who has a great voice today Like Mickey or Mike? Or even Peter or davey? Those guys can sing. They cant make good music today at all anymore!
Come on dude, Manufactured Beatles Wannabes! Manufactured, yeah agree - modelled on the Beatles - yeah, I'll give you that one too. But "wannabes" -no way. The Monkees are the bees-knees (excuse the pun). Oh and they did play their own instruments (after a short while at the start where they didn't). Peter Tork in particular is an accomplished musician, always was. Yeah, the Beatles were/are legend, they set the bar high, but the Monkees ar pretty darn good too A diehard Beatles Fan ;-)
The Beatles were and always have been a band. The Monkees started as cast members chosen to play a band on TV. In the beginning they were not to play their own instruments or write their own songs. They were supposed to come to the set and act out their scenes with a little improvisation added in and then go to the studio and cut the voice tracks for their albums and go home. They were not supposed to play concerts or play any instrument at all. They were actors.
Mickram23 . Difference is the Beatles wrote there own songs and played there own instruments and where diverse ! The Monkees are basically Manufactured Beatles wannabes !

Their own music or not, they could play and deliver a good show. That is the quality that today's music lacks no high standarts.
Go, Mickey Go!!!
happy B Day to Micky

I don't know about snobbish but I think he felt like he didn't fit in. Mike comes from money, his mother invented liquid paper/white out in the 50's
