One of the craziest things about Blazing blade is that you play it knowing that everything is going to shit after you complete the game and almost everyone is going to die, a lot of them in really sad ways without any glory like Lucius dying in an orphanage fire. Watching Hectors character development just to learn he will die in battle and basically cursed himself to do so the moment he picked up Basilkos really stings
fe6 got an english patch, if you're interested ! Fe1-5 as well, if you search the web a bit and emulate them. 1-5 are games that were designed by Kaga, so they do have the most "unique" feeling, especially 4. 5 being both the one i love the most and the one i hate the most.
But something that's amazing about this story is that it's unique because it's the only game that's not a massive war and it's small scale which is really well done
@@kevinsaga3525 is just a joke, but yeah. Thracia 776 conflict wasn't as big as previous titles or even 6, it was just a small portion of a bigger war, period. So yeah, kaga did it first.
My first game too, i read ALL the supports dialogue, and they are really well written. you learn so much about the past of our units. I love the design, le flludity , the pixel art even the story tbh. Nice video i hope you will (or have?) appreciate the 2 other GBA FE !
As soon as I heard the supports took a long time I instantly thought man your sooo gonna enjoy fire emblem the BINDING BLADE/ fe6 those supports are way shorter
I remember reading about Fire Emblem in the Nintendo Power Epic Center back in the 90s and really wanting to play it. FE7 is still my favorite and I would bring it to a desert island with Path of Radiance as a close second.
The GBA was so ahead of the time too. Mobile gaming got popular in the 2010's, and maybe old cell phones could play Snake in the 2000's but it wasn't that good. But the GBA was amazing, in the 2000's you could play all these games on the go, and they had full levels, story, everything. I still go back to these games decades later because the sprite-work is phenomenal, the artwork is really bright and uplifting and the gameplay is, as you said, pure Fire Emblem. The only thing I really dislike about this game was a poor translation in some areas like Nergal's lines of dialog.
Just binged your old engage commentaries and I like your style! I’m an FE baby who only started with 3H a few years ago, and now engage, and I like both of them. I have my doubts id enjoy the older games but I do like seeing people expand their horizons, good on you for playing this 🙏
@@Haggis-Giggles4692 I mean I get you but that’s what’s more accessible! also while i do watch content about older FE’s sometimes, i just don’t have the desire to go back and play them, which i stand by since it’s not like im insulting the quality of those games or anything 🙏
I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on this game. FE7 was my first fire emblem game and it's the game that made me love this series. Looking back now, I do agree with you that it's sort of just gives the fire emblem experience without much standouts, but given the context that this was the debut game to the west (and many people's first fire emblem game), I am more ready to look past this issue. I've replayed this game several times and whenever I just want a nice and familiar fire emblem experience, I go back to this game. Thank you for your video.
Definitely had a similar experience where I played it after being well into the series and after playing a lot of the other ones, both newer and older and a lot of them on harder difficulties so fe7 just kinda ended up somewhere in the middle and whilst it was still standard fire emblem stuff that's all it was. I went right into Hector Hard Mode and for me the difficulty didn't really live up to what people were saying, the story was fine nothing stand out for the series but in fairness I only saw the hector side and the Eliwood side may be way better. I liked the 3 main lords and did use all of them, got all the paralogues and got that character that needed all 3 lords to be level 50+ as a pose to the other guy (genuinely forgot both of their names by now). I did enjoy fe6 a lot so it was nice seeing some of the characters here and making the connections where they existed. I think if I played the game earlier on into the series I'd have been a much bigger fan of this game but as I played it it just didn't really live up to the hype people give this particular game in the series, nothing inherently wrong with it just that it didn't meet expectations or blow me away at any point
Great video, worth the wait probably. And as for me I played fe 7 as my 5th fe game so I already an understanding of the fe structure to an extent. But I still found this game to be very enjoyable as the introduction of a series to a new audience. And I felt they were able to convey what fe is very nicely. Also thos was the game that brought me onto Spooce's wild ride so that probably also contributes a bit.
When I bought my GBA from a friend, one of the games it came with was Kingdom Hearts. After the action/deck building combat didn't gel with me, I traded it to my cousin for my first Fire Emblem game. I remember suffering through Night of Farewells one Christmas break when our power went out, being so glad that even if I lost battery power, the game would be autosaved wherever I left off. Knowing nothing of FE6 at the time, the disappearance of so many characters in the epilogue just added to the theme of "stories and deeds easily forgotten" that pervades this game's narrative. It's wild to think that in some alternate universe I was hyped for Sora's inclusion in Smash Ultimate instead of Lyn's.
honestly i think what makes fe7 so good for me isnt necessarily the game itself (tho it is pretty enjoyable) its all the ways it connects to fe6 and while there r some retcons its still really interesting to start connecting the dots between games and in my opinion it adds a lot more depth to both games
I loved this game back in the day. Maxed out all the support convos. Was a frequent poster on the old Nintendo forums Epic Center. Though my love for Fire Emblem subsided later it still holds a place in my heart. I would say 6, 7 and 8 are my favorite FE games. I wasn't as interested once they added more complex systems like skills and branching storylines in the Ike series. I couldn't get into Awakening or the Marth remakes. And I haven't owned a Nintendo Switch so I missed out on later iterations. Canas is the best.
Ike’s story is great but has terrible battle animations like the rest of the 3-D FE games. FE4 & 5 have the best story with above average animations. Nothing beats the gba Fire Emblem animations though
The 3-D fire emblem games are laughably bad. You played the best one. Sacred Stones with less cool story is still great and easier so you’ll be able to beat it 👍⚔️
FE7 was my entry into Fire Emblem. Although it isn't in my top 5 anymore, I will never forget the time I spent as a 13 yo playing this crazy game and becoming enthralled with it. I used to think it was the best entry point for new fans, but have been convinced now that it isn't the worst but it isn't the best either. I think they should have included a place to enter a code to unlock the harder campaigns from the start. The fact that we have to share a save file to not grind through two playthroughs is ridiculous
This basically nailed it. FE7 is the purest Fire Emblem game that generally plays fair on all difficulty settings and has acceptable quality of life. I felt FE6 and 8 had substantially weaker map design. 6 had Ambush spawns, and all maps were sieze, which was a downer. Sacred Stones felt less personal due to generic monsters instead of opposing soldiers, and the campaign felt scaled back to make room for the towers. They're both still great, but I don't love them quite as much. I find that most modern Fire Emblem games add gimmicks to the point that the core strategy gets really diminished. The games become more about building units than strategic positioning. The GBA games, and to a lesser extent, 9 and 10 aren't like that. While I say I don't generally like gimmicks, I'm going to call out Fates and Engage for being astonishingly well designed. The strategy is there in spades for those entries, which is more than I can say for 3 Houses and Awakening. But I still often just want a simpler, more basic experience. Another "back to basics" entry in the series is overdue. The gimmicks are fun, but it's time to trim the fat again, although perhaps not quite so much as the GBA entries.
So I played FE7 right at the end of my middle school stint. I remember when it was first released, and I was pretty excited to learn about Roy and Marth. (Imagine my surprise to find that not only is Roy a CAMEO in this game, but that hes actually like....the WORST Lord in the series.) I'll probably be the first to admit to a LOT of nostalgia bias with this one. I've played it probably 15 times over the last 20 years. I definitely see the flaws now, having played pretty much every Fire Emblem available, but man, it just hit different back in the day, and Hector is STILL my favorite Lord.
There's one funny quirk in FE 7. Aside from translation disasters, the game also boasts nerfed weapon effectiveness - its only 2x instead of 3x. And this is only for the western release! I guess they did that since its the first one outsdie Japan. It also has the honor of having weather mechanics.
FE7 was my first rpg outside of pokemon growing up but over probably hundreds of playthroughs i have to admit playing it now feels like a chore and ive seen everything that the game has to offer i can no longer say FE7 is the best game for new fans to pick up FE9 or 11 are much more entry level games
fe7 is the first fe game i finished after my prepatched fe6 rom corrupted in chapter 11 (dont download prepatched roms btw). i really like fe7 and replay it from time to time, it's like the videogame equivalent of junk food to me. the gameplay offers enough variety to warrant revisiting it, but i guess it's not really that impressive at the end of the day. this is a weird personal thing i have, but i finished thracia this year and it made me lose a lot of respect for the entire fe gba era, as i used to think that those games hit the gameplay sweetspot in the franchise for me, but now i think they are just sad downgrades from what used to be. anyway epic video i put poison in his mutton ahahaha build an army, trust nobody, fire emblem, only on gameboy advance
Fe7 is an interesting game in the series It will probably never be your favourite by the time you play like 5 fe games but its still fire emblem so its fun Gba era is a very distilled experience, not a lot of bells and whistles, its just solid It suffers a lot in repeat playthroughs due to lyn mode amd all that shit If it wasnt your fisrt fe game then you will play it once and probably wait like 2 years to play it again I personally appreciate its role in introducing me to the series but Kaga has taken over me with all his wacky shit so distilled fire emblem can feel a bit shallow Tldr: Fe7 ok,play TRS next time
I played this game two years ago since I always loved SRPGs but never played an FE game at the time. I think its simple systems and memorable but retroactively dumb plot do great wonders to drag someone into loving the rest of this series.
Yeah, this has always just been a pretty good Fire Emblem game, but never my favorite. Outside of Hector, the main cast aren't too interesting, the story is a bit underwhelming and has several plot holes and stupid characters which hold it back, even though there are still some moments that work. The gameplay is kind of underwhelming, I like the map design, but the basic combat and lack of interesting mechanics outside of rescue, makes it less interesting to play and more annoying when something goes wrong, since it feels like you had no options to prevent it compared to games like Radiant Dawn, Thracia 776, or Engage. Ive never been a fan of most of the cast of this game either, they just seem a bit boring, yeah most of the older games had even less interesting characters on the whole, but some like FE4 and FE5 still had a few really good characters who stood out amongst the nobody's (Sigurd, Lewyn, Arvis, Lief, Galzus, Olwen, ect.). I haven't seen all the supports though, so there might be a few hidden gems amongst the cast of non story characters. Overall its a good game by virtue of being a Fire Emblem game and featuring the basic elements that make most of the games good by default, but just not much more than that.
But something that's amazing about this story is that it's unique because it's the only game that's not a massive war and it's small scale which is really well done
