Thank you, I'm a Scottish Episcopal priest -my son is in a Catechumen in Canada (Antiochian Orthodox). I encourage fasting in my congregation -as does my denomination generally with the only real restrictions being health and the advice of your priest. I always say to folks if you're worried about "what you can get away with" then stop and pray be humble and be modest in consumption- the grace of the fast will be lost if you start parsing the fast into the minutia of what is technically allowed and what isn't.Talk to your priest. Try again. Again thank you, You are helping me understand your faith and also what my son is learning ...obviously I am encouraging him to continue. Every blessing on your continued ministry.
Just realized sunflower seeds have sunflower oil in them is it just olive oil or all oils And maybe like nuts I think might have oils I have been doing a small amount of fruit and nuts and seeds After vespers.
As a vegan of many years, looking into Orthodoxy, what would my fasts look like? Since I don't eat meat, fish, eggs or dairy there seems to be not much of a sacrifice unless I look at just the oils and the alcohol? Perhaps aiming for one meal a day would be my sacrifice, as I would find that hard?
For vegans, I typically start them with off by (1) increasing prostrations, (2) decreasing the amount they eat, and/or (3) skipping meals. They might also cut out foods they especially enjoy. It depends on the strength, experience, and zeal of the person.
I just wish that, for Catechumens, the lay people would try to lead by example. I t can be confusing about what is acceptable and what is not. In my experience, I find myself asking if this is ok?! Like when you mentioned woman greeting and watching for their friends to come and stepping out of there area to talk to them and giggle and then most never stop talking after that. I feel it is very disrespectful to God and to people who are new and trying to learn. And then I feel guilty for judging. It's just a bad experience all around.
Fr. Paul, thank you so much for sharing these videos with all of us. They have been such a blessing to me. God bless you and your parish.
Thanks for sharing. I was raised Protestant, but I am adopting orthodox traditions for me and my children.
Wow Fr Pauls been making up for lost time, 4 videos in 3 days! Thanks father
Glory to God 🙏
Praise the Lord!
Thank you Fr. Paul!
Watching this while taking on my first serious fasting

@@frpaul Thank you Father. I had already thought of dark chocolate as I eat a little most days. That would be a sacrifice!
