Qualified immunity allows a police officer to make a reasonable mistake while performing official duties this is going to be seen as a reasonable mistake.

I knew it was suspicious when the story broke. Any encounter with law enforcement seems to be extremely dangerous. Whether you've a completely innocent person or someone who has committed a misdemeanor, your end will be justified. I don't remember when I've seen them just openly admit a mistake yet alone that some shouldn't be doing the job. Here is a young man who seemed to be doing the right things. Watch the comments and see how many will blame him and remain silent. That is part of the problem . Life is precious, and he didn't deserve to have his taken by people sworn to protect us.

Absolutely. I was looking to update myself on another deadly case. While searching, I ran into many new cases that interested me. I guess I stumbled upon klan rally because the comments were of anything but playful jokes or light racism. The most common comments were of "usual suspect", "we wuz kangz n shiet", and "let me guess, your baby wuz a gud boi goin 2 skool". Even for cases were already settled in (minority's) favor.
The US has been purging young minority men for a long time, but because of recordings, we can finally see how bad it's actually bad things have gotten.

😞 This happens way too often. How very tragic for this young man to lose his life for no reason and in such a brutal fashion. Wrong address, no statements to ID themselves, and breaking in.
Fortsons' reaction was totally understandable as home invasions have increased ten fold.
They will of course say they were justified and did everything right and the deputies who shot him will be rewarded and sent back out. I'll bet they all got a big laugh out of that.

Police don't always need a warrant to enter a residence. Also, they are said to have entered the wrong residence, which right there is an offense the officer may be penalized with at least paid leave or worse, depending on how our "justice system" will handle this case. And for the homicide, with the history of how few police officers were convicted for such acts here in the United States of America, pretty good chance the officer is going to be acquitted or even exonerated (I hope there is sufficient evidence from the video call that he isn't).

When responding to a report of DV, they often don't for the safety of the alleged victim. If there was in fact DV going on inside the home, announcing they were police could cause the abuser to do something drastic. That's why they didn't announce themselves, that's why they didn't stand in the peephole. It's standard operating procedure.

A "disturbance call" does not give the officers the right to break into any home, right or wrong address. Their entry and any actions afterwards were a violation of constitutional protections under the 4th amendment against unreasonable search and seizure, and the death was an unreasonable use of force, again a another 4th amendment violation. That cop should be investigated for criminal charges of burglary and murder at the state level and for violation of rights under color of law on the federal level, and civil remedies sought against him as well. That entry was presumptively illegal under well known case law, and the officer should be denied qualified immunity. This is a horrible example of how ignorance and ego lead a cop into completely unacceptable tyrannical behavior.
