Lots of common sense on that young man’s part. A lot of push in robberies start with someone claiming to be law enforcement and avoiding the peep hole. In addition Florida is a castle law state where a few weeks earlier a sheriff was on TV telling citizens to save the government the cost of a trial in regards to this sort of crime. She says she dosent know for sure but told him the number twice because she was trying to remove accountability. The guy who got shot responded but the cop didnt hear him. People learn the law it’s involuntary manslaughter if the deputy gets charged with murder he will be found not guilty in a bench if they even charge the deputy at all. Saying you are a police officer and stepping outside of the peephole so that there couldn’t be a visual confrontation isn’t going to cut it. This is why you must give your badge number even when pulled over by law for example. (2) The suspect was in the right to have his firearm on his persons IF the officer didn’t identify himself after banging aggressively on his door. The bodycam footage shows the cop identified as "SHERIFF'S OFFICE!" twice and quite loudly. You can't blame a cop for not standing directly in front of a door that suspect can shoot through when he doesn't have backup just yet (or even if he does).

It was a justified shooting. The officer was there to investigate a domestic violence call. He went to the right apartment on the right floor. The young man answered the door with a gun in hand. The officer had to make a split second decision and he shot the gun believing his life might be in danger.
I HATE to say that Roger Fortson made the worst mistake by opening the door, this poor judgment cost him his life. Even if a search warrant is available I would not answer the door, I'd call 911 and report it, as crazy as that sounds. I'm anguished by this, He was doing well for himself.

Not tough at all. It's his own fault, I'm being 100% blunt because I already know the foolish narrative people going to try to spin here. I lived in the hood for over 30 years, I'm black, cops came to my house twice as an adult looking for a neighbor, as a teen I had 12 run ins with police and yet I got no record, never been cuffed or roughed up even and one time I had a knife on me and they took it and let me go. If you act dumb, bad things happen. It got zero to so with skin color, it was simple foolish decisions. I've done dumb things as a kid like break windows, steal, have a knife, skip school, fair evasion and just complying and talking regular with police was all that was needed.

Having a firearm in your hand in your own home with a valid license is permissible. The soldier had every reason to be suspicious about who was at the door. The next and first officer mistake was when the lady kept saying that she was unsure which apartment the disturbance came from. It was on purpose. Some lady called the police becasue she thought she heard something.

The bodycam footage shows the cop identified as "SHERIFF'S OFFICE!" twice and quite loudly. You can't blame a cop for not standing directly in front of a door that suspect can shoot through when he doesn't have backup just yet (or even if he does).

It was a justified shooting. The officer was there to investigate a domestic violence call. He went to the right apartment on the right floor. The young man answered the door with a gun in hand. The officer had to make a split second decision and he shot the gun believing his life might be in danger.
I HATE to say that Roger Fortson made the worst mistake by opening the door, this poor judgment cost him his life. Even if a search warrant is available I would not answer the door, I'd call 911 and report it, as crazy as that sounds.

It's not against the law to have a gun in your hand pointing to the floor. Did you think that maybe he didn't know who was at his door? Did you think to ask why an innocent man would come to the door with a gun? Maybe he thought that he was in danger. And he was. After he backed up as he was told, why the cop empty his gun on him?
As we see your comments did not age well. The officer knocked on the door outside of the view of the peep hole number one. Having a firearm in your hand in your own home with a valid license is permissible. The soldier had every reason to be suspicious about who was at the door. The gun was pointed at the ground at all times. The officer gave him a lawful order to drop the weapon as he began to shoot him which is why he is no longer working for the Sheriffs Department. The next and first officer mistake was when the lady kept saying that she was unsure which apartment the disturbance came from. He basically was like lady pick a door and she did which evidently was the wrong one. Hopefully he will be charged with involuntary manslaughter. If he is charged with murder than the fix is in.
My 23 y/o son was murdered by two criminals two weeks ago that happened to be black. And I'm not making this about skin color-- we're latinos. Evil has no color.

The offier was NOT at the wrong apartment, didn't cover the peephole, announced himself more than once, roger acknowledged there was law enforcement at the door, and yet still answered the door with a loaded firearm in his hand. What a mistake on Rogers behalf. White or black the outcome would have been the same.
The officer most likely won't be charged because they didn't go there with the intent to kill that man. They didn't even know the race of the man behind the door. Why someone would open the door seeing that it's law enforcement and still have a gun in their hand is beyond me! There won't be any satisfaction in this case because the family is intent on blaming law enforcement for their family members bad judgment!

He knocked and announced himself the first time and briefly walked away, this was when the airman had asked "who is it?" and heard no response the cop came back and started knocking again the airman because he was worried about the fact that an unannounced visitor is banging on his door answered with his weapon in hand just to be safe. And then we saw how that ended. How was he supposed to know a cop was pulling up to his home because of a DV call? The young brother lost his life for NO reason

It is not against the law to have a licensed firearm in your hand especially if you are not 100 percent who is at the door. At no time was the firearm pointed at the deputy. The deputy gave him 2 seconds if that to comply with the order before he shot him.
