Space marines die in multitude of ways. And that granade is the size of 4 human heads, it's huge. Either way. I think the pvp should just be pvp and a fun shooter not an accurate portrayal in the lore. Because if it was you'd have For Honor gameplay for every fight and it takes 30 minutes of mag dump to kill 1 guy.
If we're going off the tabletop gameplay, you can definitely get killed/kill a space marine in 3-4 shots from a standard bolter. I agree pvp should just be fun stuff without bothering with the lore.
Frag Grenades shouldn't be able to 1 shot a Marine, but Krak Grenades and especially Melta Bombs absolutely should. Those are specifically anti-armour and anti-fortification in nature.
This reminds me of early 2010’s games where PVE was the focus and multiplayer was tacked on which is always how it should be. The PvP is supposed to be stupid fun that isn’t meant to be taken seriously idk why people expect it to be super good and the next big thing. It’s a cool little feature you can play if you want to

If you are old enough to remember older games you’d remember that the campaigns were not super long and they all had a beginning and and end and after that you play PVP until you get bored and move on. You and a lot of other gamers have been conditioned to think you need 200+ hours of content to justify a purchase nowadays. What’s wrong with a single player campaign with a couple fun side missions and simple PvP? This is all the game needed to be and I don’t really care if they add more stuff. I had my fun and can safely say it was money well spent.

I don't care if they add more stuff but putting in a half-assed pvp mode and then ask for 40$ battle passes is a bad move. They could have took all that time and made the campaign longer. I'm just going to finish the campaign and hope they come out with SP3. Also putting pvE content behind battle passes is diabolical corporate greed. The main campaign for SP2 is 6 -7 hours... while Gears was roughly 10-11. i'm sorry if you think buying battle passes for more PVE content is a good idea. They are literally pay walling what we should have gotten in the first place a regular 11 hour game.
Great review. Agree with all. Add in another 3-5 maps, maybe another 2 classes, Chaos customization, and we're off to the races. Also I guess stuff like voice comms in the lobby, etc. I hope they realize how good this pvp mode is and pivot to put more resources on it as you say. I think the foundation is stellar and can become the next gears of war type pvp franchise.
I played PvP for 8hours straight yesterday. I love it, there are little things that are annoying but I like the balancing of the classes and it's overall very enjoyable.
SM PvP is so good, it was good in SM1 and it's just as good as SM2. The classes don't have a lot of unlocks that make you feel like you're behind the game when your opponents are so much higher level than you. It just feels very balanced and when I get in a lobby to play a few games, I don't feel like I'm in a lobby of sweats where I'm just not enjoying the game.
i got 180 hours in SM1, and i will say this, i do NOT miss the lazcannon lmao. it was only a little bit OP so it wasn't crazy, but it was so lame to fight against. edit: i also wanna say im so glad what they did with assault. assault was a literal joke in sm1 PvP, nearly useless, it's a meme class. especially with the bad lag in sm1 pvp. im SO glad assault in viable in pvp now.

@@P-sychotic vanguard works wonders against lone targets. if you can pick out and chase people led astray from their group, you can be a real menace. you can also still offer some good support in team fights with your primary but stay in the back lines. if you're wandering by yourself, you have to be very picky-choosy with your fights before you start them. thats the general mentality i use with assault, and it's worked really well and seems to be the same mentality for vanguard.
@@P-sychotic also yeah the lazcannon was such a menace lmao. it was such a busted sniper, 2 shotting with body shots, infinite range with no bullet travel or drop or damage falloff, and because i guess it isnt powerful enough, it also punches through thin walls... which includes most cover in all of the PvP maps that aren't big concrete walls lmao. man i really dont miss that weapon. every time a good lazcannon was on the enemy team id be playing the game normally until i suddenly lose my entire shield across the map, take cover and think to myself "i guess i cant play the game anymore.. just gotta.. sit here..." lmaoo

Looking at gameplay I can tell the melee needs to be worked on a bit. Everyone just shoots even in hand to hand distance cause it’s more viable. All they need to do is either add a ton of recoil while get melee’d or interrupt shooting in general.
I think if they want to, they can really keep this game going for a while, updating both the pvp and the pve mode has so much potential in the long run.

There is noting quite like shooting thicc bois with blocky guns spitting out minitank shells hammering your ears. And TTK done right makes PvP wayy more enjoyable - it's got many good straits from Halo and Gears. Now if only there is bigger battlefields with vehicles...it's literally playing Dawn of War but you are in action. Imagine add other races and Sisters and Cadians it would be MADNESS.
not a fan of how there's basically no gore or executions. bolters are basically mini missile launchers so bodies should be exploding when shot but they just sort of fall over and disappear. if you get a headshot their head should explode. GoW had this and it came out in 2006. for a game to not have this in 2024 is just lame. same applies for chainswords

I think the weakest is operations. I think the pvp isn’t unfinished I thinks it’s just really simple. It’s really fun and quick and easy get in and get out gameplay. It’s great.
I’ve had the opposite experience. The TDM mode felt the most fun but meanwhile the objective one is heavily focused on which team can sit behind cover on the objective and pick the other team off. At least in TDM I felt like I was able to get back in the action without running all the way across the map

The PVP ain’t bad but it feels unfinished and unrefined, it needs balancing and many tweaks but I think it has good bones.
At first I was treating the pvp like gears of war and was getting demolished being by myself trying to flank and stuff, but after treating it like overwatch where the game is super team reliant, I’ve been having so much for fun
they should add a versus mode like {left 4 dead, back 4 blood and versus vermintide 2} in operations mode where you control xenos or chaos marines and go and kill astartes doing their operations
Is it fun? yes! Is it "good" HELLO NO! Its low skill and pure cheese. vanguard gets free kills on CD. the heavy class shield is annoying and cheats you out of a win in a 1v1. The rampant cheating is in almost every match. Wall hacks are the most common, you will find that people will pre fire at you while coming around a corner. You can always see the cheaters because of how many kills to deaths as the skill kills are low because the game is basic AF. Kills lean heavily into your class ability. Its goofy fun but as PVP is competitive this state just will not work in the long run. Ill give pvp a score of 6/10
pvp is trash and it aint getting better. just stick to pve /co-op, give us space marines 3 and drop the battle passes. It's a fun game but they need to stop trying to make this a forever game by adding on a cheap pvp experience and 40$ battle passes. Like what? just make a new game and stop trying to milk us.
I have a weird "theory": shooters with great single player modes usually have great multiplayer modes. I've seen this with Halo, Gears of War, The Last of Us, etc. If they have a good core, they only need to adapt it to multiplayer and that's it 😌. Hadn't been this excited for a new shooter and its multiplayer mode in a LONG time! Brings back Gears of War memories when in its prime 🥹.
I can say for my experience I love PVP I haven’t really got to finish the story nor have I got to play Operations because Im so addicted to PVP. Granted I know Story and Operations would be lit if I had others to play with but as far as the some of the things you addressed, FINALLY SOMEONE MENTIONED HOW THE ONE MAP HAS TOO MUCH FOG! Like bro turn this is down I can’t even see anyone everytime i go in there 😫🤣 and THE GRENADES WHY ARE THE GRENADES ONE SHOT, now don’t get me wrong capture and control is fun and so is annihilation but everytime i try to run annihilation my game slightly crashes so I only play Capture and Control also Seize Ground…I mostly run Seize Ground because it’s the only one I can really get to run and feel it’s I hope these two issues are fixed in the next upcoming patches/updates
I kinda like how the game didn’t release with chaos cosmetics. I’d want them personally down the line but at launch it would be a tough ask to have cosmetics exclusive to one game mode with a 50/50 chance of using
The beauty of the pvp is that every class is over powered! For instance the heavy you say is broken, gets hard countered by bulwark with his shield that blocks all damage and it is countered by vanguard
I found PvP in this game so disappointing. > "support" class is absurd (ability is broken*) *You can't outplay your enemy in this game (except baiting bulwarks) so his ability gives tremendous eHP = bigger TTK => unfair advantage vs any other class >bulwark's shield is indestructable (zero punish for player's stupidity) so he cant just stand with block up for an eternity (extra broken if he has 1 teammate nearby) >sniper can shoot while in his ability (cringe) >random weapon spread and lack of impact while using it >unbalanced player distribution to teams. Every single game my team was lv2-5 playing vs lv11+ >playing solo is disguisting. 90% of time you'll have to deal with party of 2 (or more) people who will stick to eachother and you can't counter it. >weapon variety per class is level blocked
My only real pet peeve is the hook flying in that locks you in and the run toggle that pops you out of zoom. Fix those and it’ll be pretty damn good. But if I’m zoomed in shooting and accidentally push too hard I just stop shooting cause I activated the run toggle, gotta fix that.
Is it good? I wouldn’t say it’s the best out there currently but in terms of fun I could definitely say I’m having a lot of it and not just that I’m having the type of fun that makes me feel like I’m back in third generation of consuls era and saying that that might not be for everyone, but I could see this going both ways good or bad moving forward
imperial fists power fist, shield, hammer etc death guard, poison knife, death heads, plague gun etc iron warrior chainsword autocannon etc list goes on
it was really fun for me too at the start but now it feels like experienced players are getting matched with less experienced players and then because of that it might end up being a bloodbath
Ngl the Bulwark shield need some sort of debuff because if you shoot them by yourself you are screwed because it just bounces of the shield. Thasy opinion though.
High TTK is so much better than low TTK. With high TTK u need better aim, headshots are more useful, gunplay needs more skill. Kills are more rewarding.
It looks like it has a high time to kill and it's not a battle royale and no dedicated healer so I'd say it's good so any issue I'd have with barriers or a class that's melee that will always be toxic or STEALTH can be tolerated. Is it worth playing? Check back in a few months when the servers are either dead or fully populated.
just pre-empt grenades or accept the barrage.. this comes at a cost for the team because they can no longer disrupt your placements or create space etc.. i think the grnades are fine and the lore doesnt have to be applied
I only need team balance before and after every round. Being on the losing jsut because you joined a very noob team while the enemies are all +10 levels above you is not fun.
If u played the game even if you not into the lore you should know that a space marine grenade isn't a normal sized grenade. It's more like a barrel of explosives for an normal sized human
I don't think heavy is all that busted honestly. If you have at least one teammate (which you realistically should) his bubble isnt that strong, and by the time its brokent, two marines M1'ing the same target with no shield tends to be very effective. Also, grenades are only one shots if youre sitting on top of it from what ive experience. 9 times out of 10 in my cases, it does just shave their armor and a little bit of health. I've only ever gotten like 2 grenade kills since I've started playing lol
As far as pvp goes it’s ok , honestly would of love to see something innovative like horde enemies on both sides and such . Just an added side mode, glad to have it for some change up
I wanted a marine that I can customise in to oblivion without any classes but instead you decide your class by equipping gear armour and everything else and maybe skills to unlock but thanks for this average as pvp
I want them to turn call of duty war-zone into space marine war zone id loose my mind if something like that came out or a space marine version of battlefield yea id pay 1,000’s of dollars for that
The pvp is horribly unfinished nd feels like a last minute thing. My main issue is you die too fast nd are way to slow to react if not immediately looking at the enemy. It needs a radar to compensate
8/10 it's good, but there's alot of unbalanced unfinished aspects, shields have way too much damage, the grappel has a long ass stun, server issues are rampant
I agree that PVP is both the least finished mode atm for Space Marine 2 but it get's the basic core fundamental of a PVP correct it is fun to play and the gun play feels solid even in PVP as it does in Story and Co-op. A few extra modes and maps will be great and an infected type game mode where players can play as Tyranids in the future would be super cool like in Halo but a few more maps and modes for now will be great first additions to the MP it has great potential and isn't just a tacked on mode.

This game is a great blank slate. Its fun as fuck at launch but just imagine what it would be like if they add the guard and all the xenos scum.

Like bro turn this is down I can’t even see anyone everytime i go in there 😫🤣 and THE GRENADES WHY ARE THE GRENADES ONE SHOT, now don’t get me wrong capture and control is fun and so is annihilation but everytime i try to run annihilation my game slightly crashes so I only play Capture and Control also Seize Ground…I mostly run Seize Ground because it’s the only one I can really get to run and feel it’s I hope these two issues are fixed in the next upcoming patches/updates
I kinda like how the game didn’t release with chaos cosmetics. I’d want them personally down the line but at launch it would be a tough ask to have cosmetics exclusive to one game mode with a 50/50 chance of using
The beauty of the pvp is that every class is over powered! For instance the heavy you say is broken, gets hard countered by bulwark with his shield that blocks all damage and it is countered by vanguard
I like the pvp mode, needs work but fun though.

I found PvP in this game so disappointing.
> "support" class is absurd (ability is broken*)
*You can't outplay your enemy in this game (except baiting bulwarks) so his ability gives tremendous eHP = bigger TTK => unfair advantage vs any other class
>bulwark's shield is indestructable (zero punish for player's stupidity) so he cant just stand with block up for an eternity (extra broken if he has 1 teammate nearby)
>sniper can shoot while in his ability (cringe)
>random weapon spread and lack of impact while using it
>unbalanced player distribution to teams. Every single game my team was lv2-5 playing vs lv11+
>playing solo is disguisting. 90% of time you'll have to deal with party of 2 (or more) people who will stick to eachother and you can't counter it.

My only real pet peeve is the hook flying in that locks you in and the run toggle that pops you out of zoom. Fix those and it’ll be pretty damn good. But if I’m zoomed in shooting and accidentally push too hard I just stop shooting cause I activated the run toggle, gotta fix that.
Is it good? I wouldn’t say it’s the best out there currently but in terms of fun I could definitely say I’m having a lot of it and not just that I’m having the type of fun that makes me feel like I’m back in third generation of consuls era and saying that that might not be for everyone, but I could see this going both ways good or bad moving forward
imperial fists power fist, shield, hammer etc death guard, poison knife, death heads, plague gun etc iron warrior chainsword autocannon etc list goes on
it was really fun for me too at the start but now it feels like experienced players are getting matched with less experienced players and then because of that it might end up being a bloodbath
It’s pretty fun, can be pretty unbalanced at times, definitely needs some more maps and connectivity can be spotty with good internet
I think it's great but because of that low FOV I just can't play it atm.
Ngl the Bulwark shield need some sort of debuff because if you shoot them by yourself you are screwed because it just bounces of the shield. Thasy opinion though.
Just been playing the BO6 beta and I hate the short TTK. Great that this has a longer TTK. Pity about the lack of maps
High TTK is so much better than low TTK. With high TTK u need better aim, headshots are more useful, gunplay needs more skill. Kills are more rewarding.
This is reminds what racoon city COULD'VE been. Awesome lore. Awesome characters. Awesome enemies, bosses and wepaons.

the pvp is very bland imo, but its ok i'm pretty sure most people bought the game for the PVE
No crossplay and 3 man squad limit is killing it for my group. Such a bummer we can’t all play together when there’s at least 4 people on.
It looks like it has a high time to kill and it's not a battle royale and no dedicated healer so I'd say it's good so any issue I'd have with barriers or a class that's melee that will always be toxic or STEALTH can be tolerated. Is it worth playing? Check back in a few months when the servers are either dead or fully populated.
Should’ve made a battlefield style pvp with different t Gaye’s regiments that way you could have the space marines feel like space marines

5:10 Space Marine power armor should lore-wise just have the paint scratched from a frag grenade.
They should have a juggernaut mode where one player is a custode.
just pre-empt grenades or accept the barrage.. this comes at a cost for the team because they can no longer disrupt your placements or create space etc.. i think the grnades are fine and the lore doesnt have to be applied
I only need team balance before and after every round. Being on the losing jsut because you joined a very noob team while the enemies are all +10 levels above you is not fun.

It has console crossplay. PC is left out which I hope changes in the future
The only thing I look at strangely is the bulwarks shield blocking ridiculous amounts of gunfire, I get lore and shit but balance matters

Only complaint I have is the map portion other than the pvp is a blast and fresh air

If u played the game even if you not into the lore you should know that a space marine grenade isn't a normal sized grenade. It's more like a barrel of explosives for an normal sized human

TTK seems high and headshots seems to be useful so the gunplay needs skill. It's very important for me.
It’s good but in desperate need of some balance tweaks. Not all classes are made equal in pvp
I don't think heavy is all that busted honestly. If you have at least one teammate (which you realistically should) his bubble isnt that strong, and by the time its brokent, two marines M1'ing the same target with no shield tends to be very effective.
Also, grenades are only one shots if youre sitting on top of it from what ive experience. 9 times out of 10 in my cases, it does just shave their armor and a little bit of health. I've only ever gotten like 2 grenade kills since I've started playing lol

As far as pvp goes it’s ok , honestly would of love to see something innovative like horde enemies on both sides and such . Just an added side mode, glad to have it for some change up

If you unlock armor in pvp, it carries over to pve. The guns upgrades and class skill upgrades only unlock for pve cause there not used in pvp

The pvp is horribly unfinished nd feels like a last minute thing. My main issue is you die too fast nd are way to slow to react if not immediately looking at the enemy. It needs a radar to compensate

In ps5 The ping is always 100 for me despite having fast internet
8/10 it's good, but there's alot of unbalanced unfinished aspects, shields have way too much damage, the grappel has a long ass stun, server issues are rampant
Ttk is also longer than it should and enables squad jumping way too much

I agree that PVP is both the least finished mode atm for Space Marine 2 but it get's the basic core fundamental of a PVP correct it is fun to play and the gun play feels solid even in PVP as it does in Story and Co-op.
A few extra modes and maps will be great and an infected type game mode where players can play as Tyranids in the future would be super cool like in Halo but a few more maps and modes for now will be great first additions to the MP it has great potential and isn't just a tacked on mode.

Ain’t gonna lie pvp is not great but I like the customization. Besides that boring af tack on that I will definitely be playing with friends anyways
