The Wahoo heel turn was an extension of what was already going on in the Mid-Atlantic territory
3 or 4 territories were working together at that time to try to slow Vince M. down. Then in the spring of 85 Crockett bought out Ole's Georgia Wrestling.
Thunderbolt Patterson had AMAZING PROMOS!! LOVE THAT MAN
Me 2
Me too. Long live Thunderbolt Patterson.
I find the commercials just as nostalgia-stirring as the wrestling. Great upload!
Gordon Solie was as smooth as silk
Absolutely loved these days of "real" Wrestling 😁....I literally used to cry if my uncle wouldn't take me to the Columbus municipal auditorium any Wednesday they were down there..😫😭...lol
I loved BOTH Wahoo McDaniels and Ronnie Garvin. But heel and face turns especially unexpected ones were always part of pro wrestling and generated BOTH major excitement and major heat!
R.I.P. Wahoo McDaniels you were both a great football player and a great wrestler!
An excellent testament about the chief's athletic ability, but I have also heard that he was a par level golfer as well as being a punter in professional football.
@johnthompson3664 Wahoo played golf with major golfers like Lee Trevino among others. He was one of the greatest athletes to ever live.
No disrespect to the young generation fans of wrestling but... it's just too dog gone bad y'all wasn't born during this Era.
R.I.P. Gordon Solie and Craig Sager.
Brad Armstrong just walking just walking off while Jimmy Hart was talking was a little odd, but he was still young. I didn't realize he was on GCG in 84.. just found this episode and I'm excited to see Lawler on here too!
Thanks for uploading!
Out of all the promotions out there from the 70's and 80's gcw was far the best in my opinion
Love GCW with commercials thanks.
I'm still calling trying to get one of those phone - radio - recorder boxes. Can't seem to get through with this damn fancy "smart phone."
Agreed 👍. Those commercials are a time machine to my youth
Wildfire Tommy Rich
this show was great, but in April 1985 they got absorbed by Jim Crockett Promotions.
“High, high, hip toss!”
5:39 "Greg Brown realizing that he was being outwrestled is now taking some shortcuts...."
Thank you for sharing this video❤
Mike Jackson was an incredible talent! Maybe they should've put the World's Jr Heavyweight title on him.
Did Ole mention the New Day? And doesn’t Thunderbolt remind anyone of MVP with the suit?
I loved Rufus R Jones! There is a lot of Dusty Rhodes in him. They would have made an incredible tag team.
Vice versa. Rhodes wanted to be black so bad, it hurt.
Rufus R Jones the father of the Dr of style Slick
Thank you for closed captions. Finally!!
This is incredible to watch thank you Kris!
Rip Rogers a star from Portland wrestling. He looks like a blonde Charles Manson! LOL. 😂
Loved Rip in Portland Wrestling. One of the best ever,
Ole is the most deviest back stabber in wrestling history. Look what he did to Dusty in the cage match.
Dusty deserved it.
I just like how the commentators called the suplex suplai 🤔😆😆
😂😂😂
Only Gordon soile
iirc Verne gagne would pronounce it suplay as well
Old School Pro Wrestling ❤
So sad that Ole ended up attacking Bolt the following year, and mocking him for begging for a chance.
He looked like he was having second thoughts during that entire handshake. The handshake was probably issue of guys trying to squeeze the life out of the other
I disagree Thunderbolt got exactly what he deserved! He no-showed for numerous matches in Georgia because he felt his contract shouldve been renegotiated! Be a man Thunderbolt and honor your contract then try for more money.
Its very sad. Thunderbolt trusted one of the biggest backstabbers
@@rickyjohnson4184 I agree 👍. Thunder ⛈️ bolt was absolutely screwed. The man had Amazing promos!! He was better than most promos. The NWA f*cked up royally!! 1st black champion was Ron Simmons!! 20 years too late!! Thunderbolt Patterson as a NWA champion in Georgia would have been epic in the early 80s. It would have made national news, and if the Georgia "good ol boys" gave Thunderbolt unfair treatment (ra$icism). You know the new york bill after magazines would have rallied for Thunderbolt. He was robbed of being the first NWA black champion and it makes me mad 😠
@@billnelson8517 bill you don't know NOTHING and sound hateful.. Thunderbolt was screwed his entire career with ra$cist promoters. Your comment was sh*ttu Bill Nelson. U sound like a Georgia good ol boy ? 🖕
I always thought that Ted Oates and Dick Slater looked like brothers
So Jimmy Hart interrupts Armstrong's interview and Brad just walks off? Probably should've done that when Flair did the same thing.
I used to love the openong theme song. I was wondering where this song came from
Go watch the WWF on TBS you'll hear it. Vince took over the original GCW, they used the theme song and set. 84 to 85 then it was sold to Crockett.
@@Pillmanizedyes Vince did buy GCW. Then Ole and a partner started Championship Wrestling from Georgia and then he sold it to JCP
I never knew Jimmy Hart spent time in the NWA. I always thought he went from Memphis to the WWF.
Just weird to see Jerry Lawler standing next to any other announcer other than Lance Russel or Dave Brown. Thanks for sharing this.
And when Ole and Bolt split, the Horsemen began.
It officially began a year later after Ole was injured
I close my eyes and I listen to thunderbolt I hear Dusty Rhodes and Superstar Billy Graham…
Thunderbolt had to have his meandering promos early in the show or else they would go off the air and T-Bolt would still be repeating, "Let me tell you, I said, oooooooooh let me tell you...Gordon, I got to say it!"
Then Solie would jump in, "fans we're out of time!"
Credits
Aren't the Nightmares Danny Davis and Ken Wayne?
Bronco Lubich was supposed to officiate the Wahoo-Jason Walker match but he got hold of some bad shellfish that day at lunch and was unable to answer the bell so to speak.
Who were the ny assassins under the mask? Anyone?
They should have pushed Greg Brown..I saw potential
23:45 I didn't know that there was a team The Hollywood Blones before Brian Pillman and Stunning Steve Austin the more you know right?
Sure was
About 5 months after black Saturday...this was the bone thrown to Ted Turner after Vince told him he would get live studio matches...but it didn't happen....so gcw wound up on Saturday morning for a few months until Ted bought back the tv slot from Vince for about $1 million essentially financing wrestlemania 1
Vince lies to everyone where have you been?
Plus Ole restarted GCW and renamed it Championship Wrestling from Georgia. Jim Crockett brought out Ole Anderson. Ted snatched the Sunday night slot from.Vince and gave it to Bill Watts Mid South Wrestling
In the rasslin bidness--Nick Patrick was a jack of all trades, and master of none!
Oh if he could only say what he wants to
Who were the New York assassins?
Who were the New York Assassins ????
Ole is the man
A racist old man
So is brad Armstrong 😲
Heaven High
Disney Christmas is not on cd
Very nice ❤🎉😊
Dam !!! Bob Roop
It s like ole is a new man. Here he showing love to thunder bolt p
Who was the new ny assassins
Jesus, is that a patent leather suit? C'mon, T-Bolt! That's bad even for 1984.
Christian Hollister made it from a old couch
Thunderbolt always had racial undertones in his promos
That's what made them so good
wow a AM FM clock and radio phone i
got to get one them wow😂
17:13 "Introducing a breakthrough in home communication" the Electraphone. Yeah I'm sure it was flying off the shelves back in those days. Who would have thought back then a cell phone would be able to do all that plus more?
Everything except a consistently, clear conversation...which is the main reason for a PHONE. It's amazing, at 59 years of age, I can only remember in the last 15 yrs having to almost always ask the other person, "Can you hear me?" People are so used to loss of QUALITY in our society that we don't even notice anymore.
Lawler v Roop, a lesson in ring psychology. Roop before Kevin Sullivan got to him. Nice ok skool match
Screw Roop, he was part of Plan B
The Italian Stallion wasn't a bad wrestler either not great but not a jobber either. Any Alabama football fans out there that can help me with this? Wasn't the original Italian Stallion a running back named Johnny Musso?
10:55 is that a young Craig Seiger?
"UH UH!!!"
Hollywood Blondes? Don't even remember them.
Nightmares are a joke. Worse builds and no bigger than R&R Express.
U'm full.
It must have grieved Ole to have to shake hands with Thunderbolt
😂😅
You right. But many people said Ole truly liked T' Bolt but I find it hard to believe
Roop piledrove the fk out of lawler. OUCH. Then lawler piledrove the fk out of roop. BRUTAL.
Very few guys stiffer than Roop! He would hurt you!
Ole suxxxxxed!!!!! OVERRATED!!!!
