She's got so much hair bundled up that the pins are not going into her scalp and hurting her. She's supposed to be not noticed, the demo is not about her but it's about the hair and the pins. For all intents and purposes, she's nothing but a pile of hair that he's using for demonstrating. He's got her there for that specific reason, he doesn't care if she's bored or whatever.
Thank you for this! As a mortician, we often have to do the hair ourselves, yet they never teach this it in mortuary school. This simple tutorial is a game changer for me lol
Thank you so much! I know it sounds stupid, but I actually never learned how to use bobby pins or style my hair in general. I never really had the money for hair products or anything, and I just sorta settled for a ponytail if anything. I’m trying to learn the basics, and I’m really happy this video exists! Thank you!!
OMG!!!! why doesn't someone teach us this when we're young? I'm 50 years old, have fine hair, and have NEVER been able to keep hair pins from sliding right out of my hair. Thank you soooooooo much!!
QQ Z most people have ;-) I didn't learn till hair school that they go the opposite way I thought, but this is the first time I've seen it explained on how to actually use them, and I'm a licensed stylist (have been for 3 years)!
Sadly so have I bc I self taught most of my cosmetics and wasn't told different. This was great to learn since I have very thick hair and its def a pain in my ass when the bobby pins would back out.
Lol I just wrote this before seeing your comment: Brilliant. I wish someone, ANYONE, would have pulled me aside for 5 minutes in my youth and taught me this. So much time & stress I've wasted over the years due to bad hair days & constantly re-pinning my hair as my up-do slowly melts down my head during the workday. Ugh. It almost feels like the women in my life have let me down. They havent--- my mom didn't know the correct way to use bobbypins either, until I recently showed her-- it's just hard to believe that during both of our lifetimes, neither of us picked up on this basic girl survival/having hair 101 incredibly helpful tip. No wonder I've always hated up-do's. It's like trying to do division when you haven't yet learned how to multiply.
It just occurred to me where every teen girl or woman can learn about this. The next time a client sits in one of your chairs, explain that you'd like to teach her one little thing that she can take home and use for a lifetime - then explain the proper way to use bobby pins! (Of course, in advance hire a hair decoration artist to provide the shop with an array of beautiful decorated bobby pins and have that display right by the cash register... Just an idea... I do love the "upsell!!")

Hmm, but when u have a decorated pin, the stone is always on the wavy side wich means if that side is supposed to go down, u would cover the decoration. =3
I saw you for the first time at the Chicago Hair Show and you literally changed my entire thought process on braiding and updos. I used to hate them and now I love them!
Oh My Godness now I started feeling like whatever I don't do good in my life it's just because I was not taught the right way. Thank God atleast I can teach my daughter now about it 😂 LOL
One question, how do you take out the pin you have fish hooked? I've curly hair and I don't want it tangle, tug at the roots or break my hair. So, do I un-fish hook them before or after I pull them out?
I know this video is older but in a perfect world, it would be super helpful to start off with an infographic that shows all the different pin types that you're going to cover in the video. It's hard to see them when you hold them up in your hand without a solid background. But this info is still fantastic, thank you for sharing!
i told every girl in school to watch you because your the only one that makes since on everything u teach ...am going for my master instructor license and already have a job at the school i work so hard and appreciate you for helping me ...our other teacher was not doing nothing and you been there for me through my schooling. your videos have been my safety net thank u sooo much 😇
I am so glad that you are finding the videos helpful in your educational journey. Education is all about teaching - once you remove yourself and focus on the learner, really concentrating on explaining the how, what and why behind whatever it is that you're doing, then you will become a more effective educator. Wishing you all of the best and thanks for watching!
My hair is at that awkward stage where it isnt long enough to tie so this moderately helpful. As a guy who's never used hairpins before, this definitely raises more questions. Lol
oh my God everything is on RUclips cant believe I av been using the pin wrongly, I do open it up and it slides off easily, it do really bother me and then I decided to search RUclips and wolla, oh my Gosh I can't believe it.
Wow, I finally found it!!! Thank you, I swear some of these videos the people in them talk to you like you're an idiot! This is what I was looking for!
Omg! The way he is pushing the pin in the hair feels like it went inside the skull. The amount of pressure applied just to push one hair. It will trigger my migraine. Stylish also need to consider how to make it painless than just hooking up the hair.
Watching this and thinking “did she wrong him in another life? Why does he hate her so?” Glad everyone else said something too... I’m sure there was a way to do this without attacking her head.
For some reason I have been using hair pins and don't bend them. Not gonna start now. Mine always stay in. I really get grossed out when I see people stick them in their mouths to open them.
Oh my! I'm nearing "60" and I have NEVER used a hairpin correctly! Shouldn't they teach us this in, well, let me think..., yeah - Sex Ed? That would have helped me a lot more than the silliness that went on in that 45 minutes-a-day-for-3-months I can never get back!! Mr. Villa, I LOVE your tutorials. Obviously, I'm not a professional hairstylist, but even I can understand everything you teach. I think the pros who get to learn from you are very lucky!
So many male hairdressers seem to take pleasure in jabbing the pins into the poor model's scalp. This viciousness - and we can see it, and see the poor model trying to minimizer her wincing - are unimpressive. I have very long, thick hair and you know what? jabbing pins into my scalp does not in fact help secure it. The pins are designed to go through hair, not skin.
One question, how do you take out the pin you have fish hooked? I've curly hair and I don't want it tangle, tug at the roots or break my hair. So, do I un-fish hook them before or after I pull them out?
Omg I've been putting in bobby pins the wrong way all my life!! 1. I put it in with the grooves facing up 2. I stretch the pin open before inserting 3. I never did the up and down motion when inserting Thank you so so much for showing me this
Oh .my gosh! Just this quick video has totally changed how I think about hair pins!!! Thanks so much for the tips. Can you do a video for very thin long hair, tips on pinning?
You’re not supposed to open the pin?!!!
*this changes everything*
Right? I had no idea!
I have been doing it wrong my whole life!
the woman looks like she's dying inside
True 😂
@@bytheivy what does it say?😅
Exactly....
She's got so much hair bundled up that the pins are not going into her scalp and hurting her. She's supposed to be not noticed, the demo is not about her but it's about the hair and the pins. I’m not seeing that
Thank you for this! As a mortician, we often have to do the hair ourselves, yet they never teach this it in mortuary school. This simple tutorial is a game changer for me lol
At least you don’t have to worry about hurting anybody while you do their hair! 😃
Thank you so much! I know it sounds stupid, but I actually never learned how to use bobby pins or style my hair in general. saaaaaame what a clutch video to come acrosss :)
Same here. No one taught me
You're not stupid - just ignorant
Don’t feel bad, the majority of us didn’t know, either lol
Glaze is crazy
OMG!!!! why doesn't someone teach us this when we're young? I'm 50 years old, have fine hair, and have NEVER been able to keep hair pins from sliding right out of my hair. Thank you soooooooo much!!
We learn something new every day! ♥
That looked painful
No it didn't...look at ALL THAT HAIR, silly!!

Thank you sam seriously needed this tutorial. I just started cosmetology school and every little thing helps step up my game when I practice.
Glad it helped you out Ramon!

Awesome tips Sam! Thanks for sharing!
This is great! Thank you!!!!!!!
The toe was differently oriented between the long and short pin?
I was like:
"I thought that lady was real."
"No wait that's a mannequin."
"Wait she blinked!"
Ahhhhh, the things they don’t bother to put in the cosmetology textbooks 😅 Very VERY helpful to know!!!
One question, how do you take out the pin you have fish hooked? I've curly hair and I don't want it tangle, tug at the roots or break my hair. So, do I un-fish hook them before or after I pull them out?
Helpful. Thank you.
I love your videos 💗 Thank you 💕
Thanks for watching!
Where has this video been all my life
I know this video is older but in a perfect world, it would be super helpful to start off with an infographic that shows all the different pin types that you're going to cover in the video. Good suggestions!

I have long thick layered hair. Where can I get the best bobby pins or Hairpins four a messy bun?
Ty! I accidentally got the wrong pins, and I was wondering what they were for!

Where's the hair pin tutorial? Hair pins aren't clipped together like bobby pins 2 different products
Watching this and thinking “did she wrong him in another life? Why does he hate her so?”
Glad everyone else said something too... I’m sure there was a way to do this without attacking her head.
For some reason I have been using hair pins and don't bend them. Not gonna start now. Mine always stay in. I really get grossed out when I see people stick them in their mouths to open them.
Thank you! I could never get them to stay, now I know why
Whattt....how did I just find out how bobby pins actually work???
Absolutely fantastic tutorial! Thank you 😊
Why da fuq didn't someone tell me this when I was ten ffs

Glad the videos are helping you out!
Where can I find the fish hook Bobby pins you showed??😍😍

Fuck that means the pins I bought someone make it wrong the design is on the wrong side...
Excellent!!
The woman sitting in that chair look miserable. I wanted to give her a little snuggle.
This was very helpful. Thank you.
A little more gentle please. You don't push pins like that on someone's head. Yikes.
Thanks Sam! Never used hair pins on myself so this concise, effective advice is really helpful!!!
Happy to help!
nice I m new subscriber

Comment what you think the girl's thinking throughout the video
Why is that woman's face painted with so much makeup?
One question, how do you take out the pin you have fish hooked? I've curly hair and I don't want it tangle, tug at the roots or break my hair. So, do I un-fish hook them before or after I pull them out?
amazing video,I learn something new today, thank you for teaching us new tricks ❤
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Very helpful, thanks!!!!

Okay but the ladies lump of hair in the front is killing me
Oh .my gosh! Just this quick video has totally changed how I think about hair pins!!! Thanks so much for the tips. Can you do a video for very thin long hair, tips on pinning?
YOU ARE MY FAV CHANNEL!!! I want to be a hairdresser when I grow up!!!!!!!!!
Just curious why her hair is always crimped?
For texture
It's because we were demonstrating braiding techniques and up styles prior to this technique.
+Sam Villa thanks :-)
