A good instrument and lots of patience, practice and experience. Plus daily recording one self and analyzing with taking notes the recordings the following day is guaranteed to help one improve.
Indeed, he is amazing! There are a small number of others who perform at this level, though: William Dongois, and Bruce Dickey, and maybe a few others?
This is one of the best CD's I have ever bought. The tracks are varied so that one doesn't tire of the music. PhJ's talents are widely appreciated, but for me the star of this CD is Nuria Rial, with her soaring voice and ability to convey emotion. Her duets with PhJ are the shining jewels of the CD.
Still don't understand how Jaroussky gets all the praise here. The real genius is Doron Sherwin. To manage what he does with the most difficult wind instrument of all is just astounding. Intonation is hellishly difficult on the Cornetto, but Doron pulls of not just the necessary in the 'straight' Monteverdi, but effects and goodness knows what else in the jazzy stuff. A magnificent performer.
BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO I have no words to express the fantastic sensations I had! Thank you very much!!!!
Ahhh, no tienen...
The video is so helpful in appreciating how this talented ensemble works with each other, respecting and enjoying amazing contributions....pure joy !!!! Thank you so much for sharing your gifts on you tube !
Absolutely M A G N I F I C E N T ! ! ! ! ! Finally something that is applicable to the modern youth! Finally they'll like it! Weiter so! Wir brauchen mehr davon! We need more of that!! Great!
Jaroussky is FANTASTIC, what a performer! (plus he's just so adorable). I wonder how he and L'Arpeggiata came to do a jazzy, contemporary (and fun) arrangement of Monteverdi’s 'Ohime ch’io cado'? Maybe just to have fun!?

Quel beau cadeau matinal !! POURQUOI ?? !!
Sabine 73 I have fallen in love with these instruments, the Zimbabwe as my father called it, the Krumhorn, the Lute and historic violin and of course Philip Jarousky. It is such a joy to listen to the humorous pieces, which the group enjoys too. Absolutely great!!!,
Jaroussky is great! And even it's great to listen to Mr. Sherwin! He may show a way how the cornett could find its place within the modern instrumentarium - equaling the recorder which even was able to match this during the last years.
As a musician, a very demanding one, I can only say ... nothing... speechless.... jaroussky is perfect as usual... l'arpeggiata amazing as usual
i think philippe was a beautiful bird in a past life.. my cat gets a certain look in her eye whenever i play his music.
I can't fault your bird, obviously has discerning tastes. I myself get a certain feeling all over when I hear his voice

How on EARTH can he play the cornetto with such gorgeous sound and lyrical phrasing?! I've never heard anyone do it with this exceptional musicality.

Come on... there are good musicians too...
That rare thing, music that both thrills and yet deeply moves... Superb and refreshing.

Beautiful, as always, from the wonderful Jaroussky.
I cannot stop listenning to BOTH songs. Jaroussky is a master.
Speechless. Pure beauty. Pure genius.
Everything is possible, even fun jazz with a baroque song, just love it

I have no words to express the fantastic sensations I had!
Thank you very much!!!!
No words to describe it. At least, fantastic, wonderful, amazing, poetic, brillant, musical, beautiful...
I think the first piece deserves a triple wow...not only one.
What extraordinary artists... all! And they bring us the sublime Monteverdi, as pertinent today as he was in his own time.
I am speechless. What a wonderful counter tenor!
Superb! JazzY! One of the best of PJ! Great thanks to L'Arpeggiata!
what a wonderful start, God.
That second song is so very surprising ! And so enjoyable ! These are all beautiful artists ( Jaroussky, Monteverdi, the instrumentists...)
Ahhh, no tienen...
The video is so helpful in appreciating how this talented ensemble works with

Brilliant! What a great sense of humor!
The best performance for this piece!

Brilliant! I love the crumhorn additions. Philippe is a real showman. So versatile!
Cornetto, not crumhorn! That's something *very* different: ruclips.net/video/8w7KJznei7I/видео.html
Excelente video. Gracias por compartirlo
Oh, my God, so beautiful! 😍
oh, two of my favourite artists!
Si dolce è'l tormento
Ch'in seno mi sta,
Ch'io vivo contento
Per cruda beltà.
Nel ciel di bellezza
S'accreschi fierezza
Et manchi pietà:
Che sempre qual scoglio
All'onda d'orgoglio
Mia fede sarà.
La speme fallace
Rivolgam' il piè.
Diletto ne pace
Non scendano a me.
E l'empia ch'adoro
Mi nieghi ristoro
Di buona mercè:
Tra doglia infinita,
Tra speme tradita
Vivrà la mia fè.
Se fiamma d'amore
Già mai non sentì
Quel rigido core
Ch'il cor mi rapì,
Se nega pietate
La cruda beltate
Che l'alma invaghì:
Ben fia che dolente,
Pentita e languente
Sospirimi un dì.

Thank you!
With his excellent voice and perfect interpretation he is a joy listening - in my old age.
My heart wavered with emotion .
I was astounded to his clear voice .
How a pensive melody !
That's some serious groove!!
I like it !
Quel beau cadeau matinal !! VERY BEAUTIFUL
Quelle voix sublime
Bellísima interpretación!!!
Mitico!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For those wondering about the jazz, Philippe has said that he was inspired to sing as a countertenor by Fabrice di Falco.
Stunning.
Fascinant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
