  • Hey guys! Today I’m sharing my The Truth About Drunk Elephant video! I get a lot of questions about which Drunk Elephant skincare products are effective, and which are worth the money. In this video, I chat about the pros of the Drunk Elephant line, but I also share a big reason why my eagerness to support the brand has diminished recently due to some things the Drunk Elephant brand has been caught doing online. What do you think of the brand? Will you still support them knowing the pros.. as well as the cons? Thanks for watching! xox

I really enjoyed experiencing “the littles” set, but hearing this really feels like I cannot support them. I’ll have to do some more research. It’s really too bad if it’s true and not just some outlier experiences because I agree with you the consumer has so many options and this would be enough to turn away from the brand.

@@JenaFroese I've tried a ton of skincare because as you enter and progress through your 40's, your skin really starts to change. I have rosacea which is obviously not going to be a point for a lot of people, but my skin has also gotten really dry and the dead skin thicker and harder to exfoliate off. The best gentle overnight chemical exfoliater I have tried is by far The Ordinary's lactic acid serum. The one from Sunday Riley sucks and does nothing but drain your wallet. The Ordinary's serum is $7. If you require more vigorous exfoliation, then the Dr. Dennis Gross peel pads are amazing. They are expensive, but a much better product than the DE exfoliaters. They are advertised as a daily use product, but you don't need it everyday. And Wayne Goss says he uses his pads twice - which is very doable, just make sure they are sealed tight so they can't dry out. A "30 day supply" lasts me a few months. These pads would give a T-rex smooth skin. And to keep it smooth and hydrated (and I hate mentioning it because its so pricey) the best thing by far has been the Tatcha ageless cream. Its $185, but if you can afford it and are really suffering from the dry skin etc like me, its amazing. I exfoliate even less now. I think if you want to buy a more lux and effective product, your money is much better spent at Tatch than DE. And if you have rosacea, then the Dr. Jart cicapair green cream is extremely effect... better in an hour effective.

I love DE and my skin responds very well to all their products (I use for anti-aging properties). I can only speak from my own experience: they were awesome to me! I emailed them a few questions I had through their website and not only got a timely response-it was loaded with helpful advice that was both informative and polite, but the representative followed up with me when I didn’t respond and inquired if there was anything else she could help with and wanted to be sure I was satisfied with the answers given. Really nice communication with them! I think some people have gotten unfortunate responses from them, but maybe they deserve a second chance? I will continue to give them business as long as they are courteous to me, since it’s my cash I’m giving them. Each customer has to shop with their own experiences, I think. Cheers!

Pat Z that’s true:) personally that doesn’t apply to me most of the time tho, to me if they did it to another customer they could easily do it to me. Rudeness to loyal costumers leaves a bad taste in my mouth even if it’s not me they’re personally insulting. But I get where ur coming from. Also I was never planning on buying from them tbh😂 easiest boycott ever🤷🏾‍♀️ but all that throwing shade, insulting knowledgeable people and paying customers alike, disapproving of negative reviews etc is horrible even if it’s not happening to me.

    • @sparklulz

I think it’s due to what kind of advice you’re asking for.
for example if a customer does complain that one of their products are aggravating the skin, you may ask for a refund and in turn you basically get a slap on the hand, and told off for not using it correctly or that you’re at fault for it not working properly.
Just totally bazaarrrrrrr communication from DE.

Be careful tho, some people go all in too fast coz they’re so cheap and end up using concentrations and combinations that are gonna burn their face off. Of course do a patch test for any sensitivity and irritation issues coz everyone’s skin is different. But pretty much all active ingredients u can get from DE u can get from the ordinary. Most things on the ordinary are very credible with research backing their ingredients and formulations and no unnecessary frills and fancy stuff. Most products are under $10. That even includes stuff like vitamin c, retinols, chemical peels, etc.

Hi Jena. Thanks for spreading the word on this topic. I’ve been an avid supporter of DE for years and was shocked to hear this. I’ve purchased and repurchased several items from them and did during the Sephora Holiday Bonus sale. My favorite items currently are the protini moisturizer and the C-firma serum although I don’t think it’s as effective on my skin as it was years prior. I don’t think I can support a brand that does this to their customers. I recently found Dr. Dray’s channel here on RUclips and she’s enlightened me on skincare and ingredients. I can get similar results from more inexpensive brands. Thanks for sharing.

Then, when I heard and saw how they went after Caroline Hirons, I was truly done with them and I have no intention of ever spending money on this brand. Hey Jena! Found your video very enlightening. However many brands (tarte , too faced, Sunday Riley, and many more) get people booted off PR all the time. Yes I think misrepresentation is a terrible thing however from a business stand point I think they want people who genuinely like there products to stay on PR. And that goes for any brand. I don’t think they should give false positive reviews but I do understand brands only wanting people who genuinely like there products to stay on PR. But that still doesn’t excuse Drunk Elephant or any other brand to disrespect customers the way they have. Again great video though!

I will always be grateful to her for introducing me to CeraVe and ceramides in general but did you see her best retinols video? Hopeless. I live in Switzerland and you don't have easy access to Tretinoin here unless you suffer from conditions such as acne or melasma. I've seen the things you've mentioned as well. I haven't had a bad experience with Drunk Elephant personally but that's not what matters to me. They've already established a pattern of treating their customers and influencers badly. I'm not interested in giving my money to any company that does business this way. Period. You are much more optimistic and patient with them than I am. I have learned that "When someone shows you who they really are, believe them the first time." is very wise advice. When a company shows their true colors (lack of integrity and respect for their customers), that's all I need to see in order to decide I won't do business with them. There are too many choices available to me to settle for a skin care company that doesn't treat their customers with respect. Everyone must decide for themselves where they want to spend their money and when they've seen enough to lead them to choose a different company that treats their customers with respect and integrity. As for me, I've already seen enough. They won't get the opportunity to treat me badly because I will not buy anymore of their products. No results are worth it to me to support a company like that! Many of their products are very good but none of them are that good!

@jena thank you for the video. I have found physical sunscreens with less cast than DE. Clinique Pep-start daily UV protector SPF 50 and Murad City Skin Age Defense SPF 50 PA++++ are two of my favorites. The Murad is pricey. I wait until Sephora has a sale and then stock-up (Ulta might have it too). The Murad formula active ingredients is only zinc oxide. The Clinique active ingredients are zinc and titanium dioxide. I’ve been using the Murad for years. I learned of the Clinique option from Dr Dray. On my skin Clinique Pep-start and Murad City Skin have a more elegant formulation than DE.

I didn’t have any issues with the products or have any need to deal with customer service, but that stinks to hear that they’ve treated customers poorly. The reason I’m not buying any more products is that they don’t make their containers recyclable.

I had allergic reactions to their products, though I do have sensitive skin... I thought because it was “clean” I wouldn’t have any trouble, unfortunately this wasn’t the case. In the UK you can’t send it back, so I spent so much money on stuff I couldn’t use. My products didn’t even come with any ingredients list either, which just seemed so sketch (the littles pack bought from cult beauty), because of this I wasn’t able to see what ingredients could have caused my reaction without searching for it online. Everyone is different and things won’t work for everyone, so it’s a shame the company sees it as a personal attack and not just feedback. I think calling people stupid for having an experience which wasn’t positive is the worst PR move!

“Non-toxic” is quite a problematic marketing label that is not really regulated in the US. It's defined by the companies themselves and many times they deem ingredients as “toxic” based on little to no scientific evidence (like the much maligned parabens).

I personally think that good ingredients like Hyaluronic acid, collagen, rosehip and squalene oils are cheap, and that if a brand sells you a 'dream' there is a lot to be diffident about, because a lot can be due to placebo effect. I love The Ordinary and The Inkey List because of the short inci lists and because they are not overpriced or sold on social media from half naked young people with filters in the photo and a lot of expensive cosmetic surgery on their face.
I'm not even surprised about these overpriced brands like Sunday Riley being caught paying Sephora workers to write great reviews, because it was just absurd having only people who loved everything and never complained for the pumped up price.

Tatcha on the other hand has AMAZING CS and most of the line is gluten free and they can actually tell you what's in their products. So, Shiseido bought DE. This was announced in the past month. One of the first things that Shiseido will need to do is take over DE's social media, which is very unprofessional, as you have touched on in this video. I won't purchase from DE ever again until/unless they do become more professional. Other brands, like Paula's Choice, The Ordinary, and First Aid Beauty are so much cheaper and do a far better job than DE. Ironically enough, the PR guy for DE used to work for Paula's Choice, so he should know better than to treat people the way he does (and he was the guy who shaded Caroline Hirons regarding DE's retinol and how to properly use it). I've had terrible reactions to DE products and just used them on my body rather than my face. I never posted on social media about it, and didn't contact DE....knowing full well they'd troll me for it.

Please do a video on FTC and how it will affect beauty influencers. I’ve purchased thousands of $$$$ on makeup and skincare because some of my favorite youtubers swore by it. The products were just overhyped. Then I saw those youtubers on brand trips🤔

I no longer support Sunday Riley or Drunk Elephant because of these issues.

Wow, I wasn’t aware of this at all. I definitely won’t be trying any of their other stuff (I will be repurchasing the TLC serum because it’s awesome. But nothing else!).

Thanks for the information and the introduction to Hyrem. I won’t be purchasing anything more from them. I’ll go back to Image Retinal cream
