- The best tips and tricks for new players! These will help get you started in this beautiful game that's drawing comparisons to Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley for it's charming style. My Time At Portia Beta released on Steam just yesterday and is getting great reviews so far. You simply inherit a run down workshop, so it's up to you to repair, upgrade and expand! You can craft, farm, fish, mine, fight, forage and fall in love and build relationships!
My Time At Portia on Steam - store.steampowe...
Steal from Higgins. Every morning when he goes to take commission you can go and take 2 ingots from furnaces in front of his workshop, often carbon steel.
What furnaces and what workshop?
Nvm, found it, it's in the Central Plaza, near the Barber shop
I only play this game destroy environment, punch people and steal...thanks for the tip.
Good he's an over competitive asshole who took what was supposed to be my first job, while the dude was giving it to me. That frickinnackingnicker *grumbles*
I just block his path to the commissions, after 9am he gives up.
It's amazing that 6 yrs after it's release I'm looking for some tips and tricks and stumble across a 6 yr old video from one of my favorite youtubers (whom I didn't even watch at the time). Glad your content is timeless!
same!
With over 200 hours experience, there is only one tip I would give to anyone starting out in this game, never sell anything unless you know 100% you can easily replace it!
That means i need a lot of chest? I only start yesterday (only 30 minutes) and i wonder should i sell things i don't really need now for the sake of money
@@priawanwibisono2261 keep everything. i've had so many moments where i WISHED i hadn't sold an item because i happened to need it shortly after. honestly, the only things i'd sell are produced items like pipes, plates, glass, stone brick, etc. always use your resources as much as possible never sell ore, smelt it into the bars and use about 2/3 of the bars you smelted for other things like processing them further into other objects, like for example steel plates. never sell anything you could process into something else because while that might take longer, it gives you significantly more profit
Nice to see you here, I watch your videos too along with DF & gameshark!
This or dragon quest 11
@@jasondp3546 im wondering the same thing
Keep one chest outside. This gives you access to the chests inside if you need to get materials for something without going in your home.
I keep all my chests outside - is that bad?
@@Yer_Da_ it isnt but i recommend placing it inside to save space for more furnaces and etc outside
You should talk about apples. They are one of the few foods that restore stamina. You can usually get 7 drops per tree per day but sometimes get a cluster drop of 7 - 12 apples at a time and they only count as 1 drop. There are 4 trees at this time: 1 one Amber island, 1 outside the East gate and 2 near the tree farm. At the moment you can't kick the apple trees in the tree farm. So that is anywhere from 28 to 60 apples per day at 5 stamina each and probable 3 or 4 aroma apples for 20 stamina each.
Extra tips and tricks and money makers plus a hint for DF below:
- Put your first 5 skill points into the "Intensive Training" (Battle Tree) skill for 25% more experience gain. You can change it in the future with the nurse (Only when she is in the clinic).
- Save up to make 5 Dee-dee Transports (Cars) before you finish the bridge for a huge boost to money and reputation early on. They will post 5 commissions at once and you can turn them in back to back. You must finish at least 1 Dee-dee commission to further the quest chain (Hint hint DF: Turn in your Dee-dee damn it!)
- Start turning in data disks to the research center as soon as you can. Don't bother with 10 disk turn ins until you finish all the 5 turn ins, same with the 20. The 10 and 20 items are usually too hard to make before you get the 5 turn ins done. You can't turn in more disks until you get the reward for the last turn in from the mail (Exception: Quest turn ins/rewards are separate).
- Marble and gems come from outdoor rocks only. You wont find them in the mines. You know you can mine/chop something if it has a HP bar, make sure it's visible before swinging.
- Get a grill early to make roasted meat for a +75 HP item. Save Herbs if you can to use in the Blender later.
- When fishing, try not to hold down the button at all when reeling in as a fish can snap it quickly if it makes a sudden movement. Just tap the button repeatedly when the bubble is white and the tension bar is low. Just tap it in...
- Make multiple furnaces. Even late game they only take wood for fuel and you can always turn your extra stone into bricks to sell if you don't need them for other projects.
- Making money: Early on you can make wooden storages. Talismans aren't bad as DF said but they were nerfed a bit. If you have a ton of extra stone make some stone tables instead. Later on make rubber tires or iron swords.
When it's a Goliath fish, I agree, when it's a gold tuna or catfish its not so specific. Over all good list.
How do you make the grill? What 'machines' would you need to make the materials for it?
@@baseflounder the grill is made with copper pipe and stone bricks, or something. I dunno it's an easy build it's in your builders book.
Stealing from Higgins's furnaces is great in the beginning. You can get iron and steel bars right from the start for no effort. And if he's around, he'll try to fight you to stop you, so you can beat him up!
Also, higer level commissions can give much more money. It's common to have missions that give over a thousand gols at rank C, compared to the 150~250 gols D rank commissions.
Extra note on ways to gain stamina, while not as beneficial as eating/healing items, you can actually just sit down somewhere (like a bench etc). I don't know the exact rate, but I think it was 1-2 pts per second. I found that super useful during the beginning when I would lose most of my stamina before the sunset, at least squeezing in a few more points before sleeping is nice
If you really work hard on your first day, you can purchase a massage chair which refills your stamina pretty quickly!
Just started playing Portia and was looking for a beginners guide and some random tips but everything i stumbled upon was poorly made videos or just tedious to watch..and then RUclips magic happened and I got recommended this video.
As soon as I heard your voice i remembered every time you had helped me while i was playing Stardew Valley and just having access to your videos suddenly made Portia a better game :D
Thanks man!
You want a tip to make money... Fishing is the best option.. while you wait for your craft only go fishing... i make about 10k a day
Where do you sell fish?
@@Mami_Chaos Round Table
Im kinda new at this game..what kind of rod are you using
Fishing is so hard
You know it girl 💯
Best way to make money at the start is to fish for Goliath fish. Buy worms from Sophie's farm store, and fish all day long. Sell when the market is high. TRUST ME!
Ty :3
Win ever I play games like this fishing and selling them are the best ways of getting money
@@kakot_t3330 So true
@Jimmy Strudel 😂
This is literally the best guide I've found so far lmfao "the birds don't need them because they're dead" 😭😂 I already feel bad hurting the flying sea cucumbers and the pinata lamas.
"Plus, the birds don't need them anymore because they died when you cut down their trees."
The dry sense of humour is why I keep coming back. Loving this game so far, too bad I missed the giveaway, I live in Brazil and the game is pretty expensive down here, are there more plans for giveaways? I really wanted a legit copy.
Seph Schliemann I think there’s more in the live stream
Cristina Exactly. Considerably cheaper.
Why don't you buy in a key store ? I bought it for 10$ yesterday
It’s not that expensive on steam
Agreed that this line had me cracking up.
Another thing you should have put in your video is that while crafting most things you don't need to take items out of your chest
I'm pretty sure that animal feces comes from llamas not ladybugs. Lady bugs give you beu eggs & green goo & the green goo is necessary for making iron wood planks. But also the mystery man is important when you get Pinky as your pet, he's the only one's who sells the cat bed. And probably a good idea to switch your days between chopping trees and busting up rocks when you have stamina left - like 2 to 1. Also I'm not sure you really die when you doubt get home.. you just end up in your bed the next morning, but you still have all your
stuff. Hence the reason as to why I don't think you die. Which is actually very cool.
Anyway...I really like your voice!!!
Been watching since your early Stardew videos. You're doing a great job and are clearly improving. Your cadence, timing and info-distilling are all on point. Kudos
Fish in the Collapsed Wasteland at the start! You can easily make 8-12k each day. It is pretty repetitive but can give you the gols you need for workbench and home upgrade early on
Sarcasm and learning the game. The best tutorial
Mining is actually a really good source of money once you get the iron pick axe!
- turning your possible 1000 stone into 200 grinding stones will get your 1200gols, and since you're only selling 200 items and not 1000 the merchants can still buy more afterwards!
- The washing machines and other items you can get from the second mine sell for a ton 40-100 gols each.
- The data discs you get are really good for buying 5 planters from the church each day and selling them on for 900gols daily! I usually get between 9-12 each time I spend a day mining
So on average I can net 2k gols easy selling my stuff between the 2 merchants each day.
If also gives you a tons of resources to let smelt while you mine so you can get you commissions done as well, just take a day or two out to harvest tress and stones for gems/marble in between and the crops grow themselves so they're a super nice bonus.
You crack me up, lol.
I hope you'll update once in awhile with more content with this game, especially now that the full game is released. It is majorly lacking in informative content vs people just walking through. More tips, scenes, going through dating someone, etc. Would love to see actual guides or weird things you discovered. Plus your content is so engaging and funny. keeps things fresh and actually worth watching, and honestly, not just for the information but THAT SASS.
Great tips DF... with permission I would like to add: 1. Before you can craft your axe and pickaxe, gather that wood and stone off the ground instead of shopping at Total Tools like the game recommended (obvious tip, but, one pitfall I fell into) 2. HIGGINS has a workshop opposite Total Tools with two Industrial Furnaces next to the gate. If Higgins is not about, you can gather the items that he has made from them. Yep, there is thieving in this game, with the only consequence of sparring with him if caught. Watching DF's livestream videos: easy, you defeat him, get some coins and get to keep that loot. 3. Easy male social companion is Dr. Xu. He goes for a walk every morning just outside the gates near Higgins Workshop and likes those herbs you gathered along the way, i.e. +5 relationship pts. Also, the commerce commissions frequently ask for glass to be crafted for Xu, more social points and can be crafted from sand from rocks.
Wood, never leave home without it.
Kirara Lala BA DUM PSSSHHH
morning wood
Jerring Wood you please not? I wood'nt want anyone to make any more puns
I Wood'nt put it that way but no more puns for me :)
What are you saps barking about?
"Fix your damn house."

Actually, there are a couple of extra ways to regain stamina. Getting a meal at the bistro will heal a bunch of stamina, and you will slowly regain stamina over time if you just sit down. The rate you recover stamina by sitting is super slow, so it's only really useful if you either blew through all of your stamina early in the day or can't buy food, but the meals at the bistro are usually pretty cheap compared to what you can earn in a day, and heal a ton.
I believe that as of this writing fishing is the most profitable activity in Portia right now. I'm just early season 2 and I'm already sitting on about 20k and I'm not even fishing that aggressively. But combined with all the commission I picked up and the second place workshop bonus gets me there.
Thank you for this. I just bought this game on my Switch yesterday and I'm on Day 8. I definitely spent 8 Days wasting time because I had no idea what I was doing or how I should be investing my time. I laughed too hard at the mention of the birds being dead. And there's so much need for wood that it's said so much in this video and it's hard resisting the urge to not to make puns.
i just like how this game took how Stardew valley approaches its gameplay, but with a more RPG-like way and you can better interact with the NPCs better than in Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, and other games.
I just like when i go and interact with an NPC, i like to have more options and not the push buttom and you have a couple lines of dialog and then thats it.
best fishing spot:
1. Hazardous ruins (wise fish, 320 gold and easy to catch compared to goliath)
2. if u have unlocked the desert, go fishing near the mine (there are wise fish and gladiator fish, both sell for 320 and 280, thats so good). this is the best place to fishing
The previous builder was your pa ..
Omg idek how this happens but every time I search a game I want to play you already made a video on it! I’m BLESSED
I seriously take every single game suggestion that you make, I love the games you play and tend to have the same taste. This weekend I’m buying like 4 other games I’ve seen from your channel ❤️❤️ I never subscribe to anyone but I’m about to hit that damn button right now
Paulie at furniture store sells a massage chair I believe can get you stamina back, but does cost 6000 plus whatever mark up or down.
I know this is a late comment, but just in case..
If you are starting first get to fishing to get some gols. Then buy a massage chair from the furniture guy, you will be able to restore your stamina fairly quickly. Early game I was getting 3 full bars of stamina doing this. First bar from sleeping, 2 more from using the chair. Early on this is a HUGE benefit. Later on, not so much because you will have enough stamina generating things at your disposal.
Cooking, good for gifts to raise faction so you get benefits(discounts at stores, more health and stamina, etc), also good for healing and restoring stamina.
if ur trying to beat higgins by the end of ur first year, run to the commissions as soon as you can in the morning, higgins is there at 8 am so u gotta be quick, look at the commissions and if u can, take the highest paying one, thats what higgins usually goes for. if u cant, try for the second one. then, just wait at the board, bc higgins will walk up and look at the commissions. when hes looking at them, look at the highest paying one, even though youve already taken a commission by looking at the best one available, you force higgins to take one of the worst ones. ive done this pretty much from the start and ive been first since winter started of my first year, i mightve gotten it sooner if i always had stuff cooking/crafting in that background.
highest paying money wise or rep wise?
I feel so dumb for not figuring out the market prices! I thought it was based on your relationship with the seller XP Obviously I don't pay attention. Thank you so much for the great tips!
Sameee I also thought if your associated by the seller they'll sell you cheaper
it's like a 3d stardew
Feels like a Legend of Zelda rip off
@theone Andonly not bad on Xbox
I got it free with game pass on xbox, plays good. Actually like it better than Stardew
To be fair these games just took what harvest moon and rune factory did and took credit for what they did first and in a lot of area they did it better
well, to be fair, these games were really good, but they had their downsides, its just good that you can do everything that you could do in these games but better, without your character being a direct detriment to your gameplay.
Alternatively, does legend of zelda even have any farming, socializing and marriage in its gameplay?
no, not that i have seen in any game, so this cant be any zelda rip off on any way shape or form.
Just bought this game yesterday and love it! Thank you for this video! So glad there are other ways to make money besides just commissions.
Finally started playing this, thanks for the video, DF!
I love you. It sounds like you are smiling all the time :)
I like to use basic chest for basic mats(stuff you gather) and use a metal chest right infront of the basic chest for crafted stuff. Color matching. So gray basic chest has ores gray metal chest has smelted bars, gems, and crafted metal related items like welding rods. Helped a lot
Thank you for sharing ❤❤
Tips : Spring 19 you can get a lot of stuff even blueprint for making things, just get in front of the crowd and watch the shadow of the ship, spam E for Free Stuff.
Red mushrooms are actually not poisonous, they are psyhedelic once they are dried you can add them to some dish, they have really nice psyhedelic power.
Just started playing this game with the wife. Good video and very helpful! Thank you!
4:46 some sacrifices just are necessary
If you want to make good money early game focus on fishing. Get about 200 worms for the fishing tournament. When you figure out how to win, you get good early gear, lots of food and sell the fish for about 10k. That's within the first month.
The morning of the tournament, Sprint as fast as you can to the location, Near the water falls. You should be able to get 3 tournaments in per day.
i now have wood, thanks
ill buy the game tomorrow
Chop down every tree I see. Got it. Thanks for the tips!
I just picked this game up because of your videos. This is really helpful!
The Church Store is up in the church. I guess they bring it down now and again, but you can pretty much always find it up in the church. Found that one out by accident LOL
"Plus, the birds don't need them anymore because they died when you cut down their trees." I might of laughed a little bit tooo much
This video convinced me to get this game on my switch. Looks real fun
Deef just isn't the same when he isn't shitting on Pam...😔💔
The easiest way to make money is actually fishing! At morning, get the best comission and do that and after that head on to the many fishing spots (I think the best spot when starting is west of the harbor) Caterpillars are sold at Sophie's Ranch for 4 gol and the cheapest fish at that spot sells for 45 gol! The time also doesn't pass when you're fishing, but every time you catch something.
Waterfall 350gol per fish (Goliath) easy to catch..
you are my favorite youtube person
I might love this more than Stardew
Glad you used my suggestion.
Best way to name your workshop :D Mine is "Woodstock" ^^
Thank you for all of your Portia videos! I am waiting to play the game on my Switch.
DJ Gill 1 year later it’s finally out on the switch. How do you feel?
@@curtdude7 right I just got it . Wanna know his answer
"Giving it to whatever idiot requested them." That subtle line was gold!!

I had a commission I thought I could complete easily, but i didn’t build the machine to actually make the items until day 14. I got the commission on day 3
Super excited! Bought the game! Computer can't handle game... -_-
CottonGinster Same 😂
It's lagging soooo much.. 🙈
The game was super slow on my pc on alpha version, but now on beta/early access is runs super smooth.
Try lowering the graphics, grass and shadows make very little difference and consume A LOT of processing power.
I set it on the lowest setting and it still doesn't run smoothly...I have an old computer so it's to be expected. Thanks though for the insight! :)
CottonGinster I was having the same exact problem! Had it on the lowest settings and everything, yet if was still running slow. I don’t know if you’ve done this already, but what helped me was to lower the resolution.
This game looks like an upgraded fantasy life, and I loved fantasy life, so I'm definitely going to get this game. Probably going to wait for the switch port though. It really depends on how long it'll take to port the game to the switch.
Wow, it looks very useful! Thanks!
I can't find a way to make a profit using fertilizer on plants. Sophie's farm charges so much for it that I actually take a net loss for using any amount of it on a planter box.
Also, regarding using marble on talismans; keep in mind that you'll need marble to make civil furnaces. If you make a lot of furnaces you can turn abundant items like sand and stone into glass and bricks to sell to vendors like Paulie for good money.
I listened to you for Stardew, so howdy! Strictly a Nintendo Switch player here
Isn't it on switch now
"Dies in dungeon and need heal", well except the 50+ stages of the last dungeon, you can do each one without being seriously wounded. (Even if it is 10 lvl higher).
Early on in the game when you mine you can sell all the stone and sand that you dont use and make a considerable amount of gols. I made about 300 gols in 2 days just from selling sand i didnt use that stacked up in my inventory. Also when you mine just mine for the whole week. Otherwise its a waste of money. But good video. Awesome tips. Didnt know about the birds nest i have about 50.
At A&G Construction, you can trade up to 999 stone for 999 wood every day. It makes a big difference, because chopping trees takes longer than digging up the stone, and you use so. much. wood. in this game!
Thanks DF for these videos! Just bought the game because of you :)
Thank you for this big help
My one tip for anyone. Carbon. Steel. Bar. You can never have enough of the carbon bars ever. Like wood. Think you have enough bars? Nope. You need at least 400 bars. Not joking.
DF always coming in with the great advice! Thanks! ^w^
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Great video 🥰
Phyllis also likes Talismans, so it's an easy way to get her to like you.
Great tips thanks dude!
Awesome and so useful! I’ve just started playing this game as an LP oh my channel. Love it.
Thanks for this video, it'll definitely help me along with my play through
I've noticed the rocks on the side nearing the tree farm you are more likely to get blood stones from them!
Making basket you use only wood and plant fibres if you have the max level artisan skill you use 20% less materials it works out to be 0.5 material costs each basket can be sold for 4+ when sold at +125% market price
A lots of interesting stuff, I wish I could understand better english ! You talk quickly ^^

Just brought this gsme yesterday and im so lost.
Was about to just delete it but i figured i will look up some tutorials instead
Super helpful. Just got the game for the switch! Funny and informative.
Name your wooden boxes. Also, you can open all of your wooden boxes from any of them (there is a dropdown at the top).
Sort All takes everything in your inventory and puts it in to storage if you already have one in storage.
You can add space to your backpack at any time if you have the gols.
Take Data disks to the research center as soon as you start getting them. There are things that are required for missions that have to be researched and it can take a bit of time.
If ever you aren't assembling something, start working on another machine.
Talk to people, especially at festivals and stuff. It increases your relationship. Give gifts too.
Wait wait wait DF used to do REAL playthroughs and guides?
I'd kill for you to do one of your old games as a replay through
Just bought this game last night. Looking forward to starting it today. I like what I see so far. I tried playing yonder, but I hated how the characters look. Other than that the world of yonder looks beautiful. That being said I'm hoping this will be a game I can easily put a lot of time into
you just saved my ass so much time and energy fuckin bless dude
man DF, im so happy im seeing these vids way later, cause the best money was farming disc and selling stuff from the church trade
Bird died when you cut down their tress, that just went real dark...
Ummmm. There isn’t a way for me to double thumbs up this video.
Thanks RUclips
I like watching your streams Deef your awesome
this is dark... i love it
You can also go back to the four to the wrong table and actually get about anywhere from 56 to 80 stamina for 80 coins which is actually pretty much a steel secondly I will get conducting would if you were if you got a furnace otherwise go right to a factory and just save up to 50 K that requires
I'm on level 26 so the way to not die In the ruins is to show no mercy it really helps
"Go murder some ladybugs." lol
Love your videos DF! You’re amazing.
Poor mysterious man "he doesn't really matter that much" cuts deep...my only complaint is crafting times
You are so funny lol love your video.
So looking forward to this on my Switch, so sad it is so far away, but will take all the tips and tricks for as long as you give them! And probably have to revist them once it gets a full release.
If you need quick money at the start, go fishing. It will give u almost around 5k per day. Best place to fish is near the waterfall, there you can find Goliath in abundance which sells for 320 gols each, if u happen to catch king variety, it sells for 5k each.
SAVE ALL KING FISH AT FIRST! You can breed them for mega bank once you get at least 2 and make a fish tank!
Ahhhh this video is making me so impatient to have my game download
