Hi Benjamin, There could be many different path, ie business analyst, data aanalyst, network, software etc. For me it was software development, I fell in love with programming ever since I first touched a computer in Grade 2 😅. So for me it was my passion that got me into the industry. But if IT is not your first chosen career path, I think it’s still not too late. I’ve seen a lot in youtube who became software engineers by just taking short course/bootcamp or even just free stuff in the internet. You don’t need a degree these days! 😁. But one important thing though is that you really need to have the interest in programming and not just in for the money because we solve problems on daily basis 😁 Hope this helps. ☮️❤️🙂
Hello, I just finished high school and interested in pursuing a degree in Information Technology Management. I would like to know after graduating in a bachelor degree, how long does it take to land a role as an IT manager?
Hi Roth, I’m not sure what’s the curriculum for IT Management and what it does teach you, I came from BS in Computer Science background and was a software dev/engr for a while. There’s no direct answer to your question, it varies depending on the situation. Progressing on your career is a combination of skill and opportunity. You might have the skill but its possible that there’s no opportunity in company you work with. IMHO, you better focus first on how to learn, gain experience and be the best and then everything will fall into place. 😉. And ask yourself do you really want to be a manager? If you’re going to ask me, I prefer to be a software dev/engr 😊 Hope this helps. I may not be a guru but that is something I learned along the way.
Hi Pechagani, I’m 42 now. I chose to be in mgt role just because it’s the only way to make more money 😅 at that time. But my passion is really coding. BUT as of the moment you no longer need to be i. The management position to get more money, in fact software engineers now is earning more money 😁. You dont need an MBA, IMO those are just a waste of time. What happened on my career is that I got promoted one after the other without me asking, I just let my work and ethic do the talking. But one thing though moving up is a combination of skill and opportunity, you can have all the best skills but if there’s no opportunity then obviously there’s no career progress there. This is just based from experience so take it with a grain of salt ☺️.
I’m looking for a mentor to help out, just getting start in the IT world.I’m coming the Army at the age of 25 so any info or tips is welcome. Love the video!!
Hi Timothy. I have not proven this myself but I have observed that there were people who gets successful in software development by going to bootcamps so you dont need years inorder to put your foot right at the door. But the most important thing is that you have to had the interest about programming not just because it is a promising career. 😊👍
I can't tell really, it all depends on your interest and mindset. You have to be in it in order to succeed. I guess with any profession, first thing you need to have is interest, without it, you'll be forever dreading go to work because your heart is not into it. So first, check if you really have the interest into programming. Do what you love and not what other people think ;)
Hi Karl. I graduated in a not so popular school in Metro Manila, Philippines. I just applied for jobs when we first moved here in Canada, then I just took whoever gave me the first offer. I started as developer and then work my way up.
Hi Mialik, 1. Make sure you are really interested and love programming 2. After graduating, don't look for any other non-programming related job. Go straight at it, the longer you dont practice, the more you be left behind 3. Do your own projects. Experience is the best teacher but as a student it's hard to get an actual experience, so do your own side projects, or better yet if your school offer do on the job training, take advantage of it 4. Continuous learning. In this day and age, technology evolves really fast, you have to always keep yourself upto date. There are more but those are on top of my head on the moment:) Take care and good luck! Keep on coding!
😄 you can be at any job and have fun. To be honest being an IT director is no fun at all compared to being software developer. But I can’t make myself miserable, just enjoy life! 😁 YOLO! ☮️❤️🙂
Good luck. Think very hard about that choice. As an IT director, you're in charge of your IT department in pretty much every way. You have to make sure your team works well, step in when needed to resolve issues, work with outside vendors, work with other departments to understand their tech needs and provide consulting or other services. You have to keep track of your department's budget and justify why you need x y z service or hardware. You have to more or less have a bird's eye view of your entire department. Its a tough and thankless job at times. You can't make everyone happy. Decisions will make some people and/or departments happy and anger others. I'm not a director. I'm far from any management-level job in IT. However, I work in school IT support and work directly under my boss who happens to be the IT director. Our previous director left the job after almost 4 years, 2 of which where as interim IT director. And this is a school district with around 12k students and close to 1k staff and an IT dept. of about 20 people. He mainly left to pursue another job field also in education, but also because it was a very stressful job where he was on-call pretty much all the time and the unrelenting pressure of managing many projects at once while dealing with inept people, for lack of a better word, in positions of considerable power and authority.
@@JJFlores197 thank you please teach me what IT support does in school I had a interview but because I was to eager they thought I’d have a better job offer. But the job was good I just didn’t get the stuff I had too do much like Active Directory I believe etc
@@f1y_str8 Well every place is different. I'm an IT tech in a school district. I provide tech support to teachers and staff and occasionally to students at my assigned schools. It can be simple stuff like resetting a password or connecting a printer to more complex issues like trying to figure out why Adobe Acrobat crashes when someone tries opening a specific PDF. We also setup computer stations when we get new employees. We get a computer ready for them and install it at their new work area. We refresh computers as part of a replacement cycle. We do general network support like making sure the network ports are patched into the correct switch ports, making sure the phones are plugged among other things.
