    Does this frosting need to be refrigerated? There are no food safety concerns with this frosting, but the vanilla version does hold up better when refrigerated. I left one out on the counter overnight to see what would happen and it lost its shape a little bit. Not as defined of edges on the swirl, but still not too bad.
    Isn't this brigadeiro? The chocolate version is very similar to brigadeiro, but you won't want to cook it as long or add butter. There's a similar frosting of Russian origin as well. All 3 are very similar, but have subtle differences.

    I used to eat sweetened condensed milk straight out of the can for dessert as a child. It is seriously the best invention ever made. As an adult, I don't eat it as often because it is extremely sweet, but every now and then I like to buy a can and take little spoonfuls here and there. You seriously can't go wrong with this

    So, I was too impatient and didn't look at any recipes or tutorials (until after the fact and I wanted to check I was doing it right, lol). I creamed together sweetened condensed milk with butter and vanilla, but then added a little flour to thicken it because I didn't have an electric mixer to fluff it. And then I added a dash of salt, and enough granulated sugar to give it a bit more of the sweetness I was wanting. I found it made the texture like this homemade frosting I somehow remember having when I was like three years old, at a potluck. I remember I ate some sugar cookies with this frosting that was slightly granular and it's just so nostalgic thinking about it, so I was delighted when I accidentally recreated it lol. The sweetened condensed milk definitely brought back that flavor too, it's a very distinct but amazing flavor! I love your video btw! I just wanted to mention my weird frosting journey. So cool to discover this alternate ingredient of sweetened condensed milk ^^

      No matter what recipe of butter cream frosting I tried, and I have tried so many, none of them have turned out well. They either don't hold their shape or melt in relatively low heat (I mean I live in Canada after all ha ha ha) and after all that, I just hate the taste of butter cream frosting, it's way too sweet and usually the only time I bake a cake is for my son's birthday and HE even hates the taste of butter cream frosting! • @joycegallowayparker9652
      @joycegallowayparker9652 5 лет назад +2

      @Dr. Moushumi Gongopadhyay , This icing isn't as stable as other buttercreams are so it won't hold up well in a really warm climate without air conditioning or refrigeration. But it does taste better at room temperature, so I would remove it from the refrigerator shortly before serving.

    • @MGongopadhyay
      @MGongopadhyay 5 лет назад +2

      @@joycegallowayparker9652 thank you for taking time out and answering my question. It means a lot to me.
      I will surely give it a go and let you know how it went.
      The original idea was to make it for my son's birthday cupcakes, the ones I will be sending to his School; however if the icing is not stable it will be a challenge for it to survive till School.
      Can I use these icing for filling a cake?
      If, that is a possibility, then I can make use of it as a filling and decorating his birthday cake.

    • @jenniferherzog8718
      @jenniferherzog8718 5 лет назад +3

      @@MGongopadhyay I'm a cake decorator. I know this would probably hold up on cupcakes for a drive to the school, just refrigerate them before you go. Then they'll come back to room temp on the drive. I do plan on trying this as a filling for cakes. But I'd never use it under fondant or even as a stand alone buttercream. I know it wouldn't hold up well enough to be trustworthy.
