    Geranium cuttings tend to root easily and well. I find this a very cost-effective plant. As long as I buy quality plants from the florist I trust, things almost always work out. I live in an apartment in Paris, France and windowbox plants are much appreciated. Firmly clamped down, they really do make life prettier, and some chase away mosquitoes.

    I love growing geraniums. The gorgeous scent😍
    I've a seven year old indoor after first year thats leggy, I cut the new growth and tucked it into the soil to fill in and refresh.
    I'm so glad I found your channel so I know how to do this the right way.
    Anyroad, a few weeks ago I collected 15 seeds, to my amazement 8 popped up and in only about 4 weeks under a cheap grow light. Then, I discovered my original "mama" plant has put up a new plant as well. I'll be up to my knees in geraniums and tickled pink very soon. Lol!

    Here in America, most garden centers treat geraniums as annuals. They are nothing of the kind. They are succulent, deciduous, shrubs and with proper care, a plant can live for many years. In my experience, only two things can kill them, overwatering, causing fungal disease, and a hard frost. I have often taken cuttings from a plant after a light frost with complete success, although it would have been wiser to take cuttings well before the frost.

    • @furkandemirel2416
      @furkandemirel2416 3 года назад +1

      if its winter you better keep it inside or they might die (if its too cold it'll die, weather is around -7 / +10° celcius in winter here so i keep it outside) geraniums do better outside and you should water it how you normally water, after the soil dries.

    • @leavingitblank9363
      @leavingitblank9363 2 месяца назад

      Contrary to furkandemirel, normally when you're cutting plants back drastically (such as in this example) to over-winter them, you do NOT water them. You leave them dormant, someplace cool, until spring, when they'll start to leaf out again. Some plants do require some water, but at much reduced rates.

    I find this unnecessary and rather upsetting to watch. I sure as heck didn't do this to my red Grandeur geranium come last winter. I routinely pruned away only some fading leaves while her flowers remained dormant (as they do during wintertime). I kept 'her' in my conservatory and watered her infrequently, but sufficiently. By spring, she had grown so tall, I had to get stakes and garden twine to support the many stems and branches. She has been back to flowering since late April, has so many new leaves and buds coming forth - and is just beautiful. I've been acclimatizing the plant back outdoors while the sun is out and then bringing 'her' back in come evening since the night time temperatures have been unseasonably cool. If geraniums get too cold, their leaves can take on a reddish tone. This is due to environmental stress. I reckon that, as of this month, she will be back outdoors full time until the fall. There is even a cute little spiderling which has now weaved a home-web among some of the foliage. I imagine I will be repeating this winter, what I did last winter, with my geranium as well as with the coral Grandeur that I bought more recently.

      +Layla F. It's not dead. As long as the stems are green, it's only dormant, just like the oaks and maples. Keep it dry and cool, but not freezing, all winter and with sun and water it will come back even larger in the spring. You can root the cut off stems and have a dozen more plants to put out in the spring.
