    I just stick the cuttings directly into soil and they grow just fine during spring/summer. Just has to remember to keep the soil moist at the beginning before they root in.

    I gave my mom geraniums almost every Mother's Day when I was in elementary school. Thanks to this video (and Mom's green thumb keeping the plants alive for actual decades) I'm going to take cuttings from those plants to see if I can grow my own!

    I saw a beautiful red orange vibrant geranium at home Depot last week. It's still on my mind, got go get it now. $26 for a pretty decent size, now that i know i can make more out of that one, I'm happy to spend the cash.     I have a geranium that belonged to my son and my little granddaughter loves watching it grow and flower. She is amazed how plants grow, she's 7 now so I hope to show her what I can about flowering plants. This will be so much fun for her. Thank you for sharing this.

    I pruned my geraniums one year and left the prunings on paper for weeks, in my garage. When I eventually got around to planting the prunings, I was amazed that most grew. They are very hardy plants, I find. From Australia.

    I am.moving from Michigan at 73 years old, to Tennesse. I need wsrmer weather. I came across your video and now im hooked and know what my hobby will be after we move.     I dont use cutters. I use my fingers and snap them off at a joint. Dip them in rooting gel,put them in 4 inch pots with potting mix and place in a window,doesnt matter east ,west ,south, and water . Sucess! Doesnt matter what time of year.

    Geraniums are easy to propagate. I just pruned my lot and compost them, some are growing where I dump them.

    I trim mine starting in jan zone 10b. Remove dry leaves and I stick them into the soil. Done. 50% grow. I also stick them in water. I tie all like cuttings with rubber bands and put in water.

    I use geraniums in my 6 hanging planters every year and keep them over the winter. This year, probably because of all the rain we've had in the Northeast, my plants aren't doing very well. One stem broke off, after I had already watched this video. I put it in a glass of water, cutting the end at an angle, about a week and a half ago and now it has a tiny green leaf starting to grow on it. Absolutely no flowers or leaves were on it! Wish I could upload a pic to show you!

    I do this with baby food jars, fish emulsion from my iwn tanks. I see roots in 2 wks.

      Awesome, my granddaughter and her husband just had my 1st great grandbaby in January of this year, She is so beautiful. She started eating veggie baby food when she turned 5month old. I'm going to have my granddaughter save me some jars. Oh boy can't wait it start me some geraniums ❤❤❤

      @@dalialovesdoggies4361 Last year I brought one of my geraniums inside to overwinter in a big pot on a sunny windowsill and she went to seed all over the place. Two babies sprouted up in her container and I'm now about to plant them on outside. Love, love, love geraniums!

    Thank you for this very informative video. Can you advise me on what is the best fertilizer for geraniums and when to use the fertilizer?

      Outside I use both parts fish fertilizer. 5-1-1 & 1-10-10 one time a month but it does slightly smell.
      If inside I use 5-5-5 organic granular (winter months)

    Don't you use that dusting compound on the bottom of the stem to start your cuttings in the dirt when planting in pots...root hormones?

      Yes I do water almost right away.
      I do keep them in the shade a couple days after transplanting.

    When you bring in for winter, do the plants still need sunlight? Or can sit in dark garage? Do you still water the plant if sitting in dark garage?

      I put mine in the cellar in the winter. They get very little light and no water. In April I start to give them water not a lot though. When they start to show growth I water them more and put them out in spring. They have been through 4 winters this way and have survived well.

    Question? When you bring them in the Winter do you just put them with the dirt also. I am from the North, moved to the South. We always took the dirt off and hung them upside down in the Cellar. Or, does it matter which way you do them?

      I just bring them inside late October & over winter them in a large pot or in the pots you have them in. I place by a West facing window and water 1 time per month.

    Stems on mature geraniums become tan/ brown at the lower half and green on the upper half. Can a cutting be taken from the tan colored stem, or only the green stock? Thanks for your help and advice.

    When the geraniums have rooted and you get leaves at the end of long stems do you cut them off so the plant will bush out?

      Yes I bring them into the house and set by a West window for winter. I start taking cuttings in the fall if I want more large Mother plants. Then I start cuttings in January for the upcoming season.

      Yes, always water after transplanting.

      Keep out of sun about 1 week, Transplant after 2-3 weeks. Pull the plant up out of the pot to check roots.

      Just water. It was probably from my well so its a little Iron heavy.
