My wife passed away a few months ago and she was a keen gardener. She loved geraniums and the garden is full of them. Now, I have to learn how to do what she did. This video has explained everything I needed to get started. Thank you very much.
I just stick the cuttings directly into soil and they grow just fine during spring/summer. Just has to remember to keep the soil moist at the beginning before they root in.
I gave my mom geraniums almost every Mother's Day when I was in elementary school. Thanks to this video (and Mom's green thumb keeping the plants alive for actual decades) I'm going to take cuttings from those plants to see if I can grow my own!
Thanks for fhe tips!!! It's 1:43 am, couldn't sleep and i stumbled onto your video.😊 I saw a beautiful red orange vibrant geranium at home Depot last week. It's still on my mind, got go get it now. $26 for a pretty decent size, now that i know i can make more out of that one, I'm happy to spend the cash. This method will give me more geraniums to gift and/sell. TY!!! Goodnight 😅
I have a geranium that belonged to my son and my little granddaughter loves watching it grow and flower. She is amazed how plants grow, she's 7 now so I hope to show her what I can about flowering plants. This will be so much fun for her. Thank you for sharing this.
Love 💕 Geraniums., my mom taught me a little when I was a kid. Came across your video and brought back memories. I really want to learn more in the care of Geraniums, thanks again I also subscribed to your channel.
I pruned my geraniums one year and left the prunings on paper for weeks, in my garage. When I eventually got around to planting the prunings, I was amazed that most grew. They are very hardy plants, I find. From Australia.
Thanks a Lot. You help me save lot of money and effort. Geranium are very rare in my city and its not available. But this idea help me get lot of them myself at home. Appreciate your support

I dont use cutters. I use my fingers and snap them off at a joint. Dip them in rooting gel,put them in 4 inch pots with potting mix and place in a window, doesnt matter east ,west ,south, and water . Sucess! Doesnt matter what time of year.
I Was about to think about those trimmed flowers 😢and then you said you are going to put the flowers in the the jar it makes me happy 😅😊❤. Love ❤️ The video!
I trim mine starting in jan zone 10b. Remove dry leaves and I stick them into the soil. Done. 50% grow. I also stick them in water. I tie all like cuttings with rubber bands and put in water.
Hi dear friend thank you so much for sharing how to propagate geraniums. We really enjoyed the video. It was so informative and informational. Thank you so much hugs and kisses from grandma, Sandy, and Debbie and I have these plants in my yard, I may have to start doing some cuttings. Like you
I use geraniums in my 6 hanging planters every year and keep them over the winter. This year, probably because of all the rain we've had in the Northeast, my plants aren't doing very well. One stem broke off, after I had already watched this video. I put it in a glass of water, cutting the end at an angle, about a week and a half ago and now it has a tiny green leaf starting to grow on it. Absolutely no flowers or leaves were on it! Wish I could upload a pic to show you!
Awesome, my granddaughter and her husband just had my 1st great grandbaby in January of this year, She is so beautiful. She started eating veggie baby food when she turned 5month old. I'm going to have my granddaughter save me some jars. Oh boy can't wait it start me some geraniums ❤❤❤
@@dalialovesdoggies4361 Last year I brought one of my geraniums inside to overwinter in a big pot on a sunny windowsill and she went to seed all over the place. Two babies sprouted up in her container and I'm now about to plant them on outside. Love, love, love geraniums!

Outside I use both parts fish fertilizer. 5-1-1 & 1-10-10 one time a month but it does slightly smell. If inside I use 5-5-5 organic granular (winter months)
Hi, excellent video! I noticed you planted into the pots with dry soil. Did you water them right away? Did they get placed into full sun, or kept in shade?
I put mine in the cellar in the winter. They get very little light and no water. In April I start to give them water not a lot though. When they start to show growth I water them more and put them out in spring. They have been through 4 winters this way and have survived well.
Question? When you bring them in the Winter do you just put them with the dirt also. I am from the North, moved to the South. We always took the dirt off and hung them upside down in the Cellar. Or, does it matter which way you do them?
I just bring them inside late October & over winter them in a large pot or in the pots you have them in. I place by a West facing window and water 1 time per month.
Did he mention if there is a better time of year to do this? So it just goes into water? My dad just passed and I have a geranium he gave me but it only has 4 stems I am so scared to mess it up.
Stems on mature geraniums become tan/ brown at the lower half and green on the upper half. Can a cutting be taken from the tan colored stem, or only the green stock? Thanks for your help and advice.
Yes I bring them into the house and set by a West window for winter. I start taking cuttings in the fall if I want more large Mother plants. Then I start cuttings in January for the upcoming season.
Hello, I love plants but I either kill them by watering to much not enough sun or humidity to low. They are to high $ now. I'm single on fix income and have to watch my money. Give me some tips.

Are the seeds inside the flower? Rookie here

Thank you for this very informative video. Can you advise me on what is the best fertilizer for geraniums and when to use the fertilizer?
Outside I use both parts fish fertilizer. 5-1-1 & 1-10-10 one time a month but it does slightly smell.
If inside I use 5-5-5 organic granular (winter months)
Don't you use that dusting compound on the bottom of the stem to start your cuttings in the dirt when planting in pots...root hormones?
Thanks ‼️
Hi, excellent video! I noticed you planted into the pots with dry soil. Did you water them right away? Did they get placed into full sun, or kept in shade?
Yes I do water almost right away.
I do keep them in the shade a couple days after transplanting.
When you bring in for winter, do the plants still need sunlight? Or can sit in dark garage? Do you still water the plant if sitting in dark garage?
I put mine in the cellar in the winter. They get very little light and no water. In April I start to give them water not a lot though. When they start to show growth I water them more and put them out in spring. They have been through 4 winters this way and have survived well.
I dip mine in honey and cinnamon as a rooting hormone
is there anything else you mix in the water for them to root out or just plain water?
Just water...
I regrow the leaf also
Question? When you bring them in the Winter do you just put them with the dirt also. I am from the North, moved to the South. We always took the dirt off and hung them upside down in the Cellar. Or, does it matter which way you do them?

Yes, they should.

Anytime of year you can do cuttings..
Once you repot cutting in soil, do you put it in sunlight?
How do you keep them alive during the winter? I bring mine inside but they never survive.
I just put them by a West facing window & water about 1 time a month.
Stems on mature geraniums become tan/ brown at the lower half and green on the upper half. Can a cutting be taken from the tan colored stem, or only the green stock? Thanks for your help and advice.
@@ronmiller2954 you can take it from a mature stem , it just might take slightly longer to root.
Does it mattter if it is a seed geranium or zonal?
It doesn't matter. Both will work great.
It was brutal watching him cutting those branches with flowers and buds
Question fir you after potting them do I put them outside in the shade?
Yes set in shade a few days..
👏
I wonder if Home Depot would care if I take a few cuttings?
When the geraniums have rooted and you get leaves at the end of long stems do you cut them off so the plant will bush out?
I don't, I just let them grow...
What time of year do you take the cuttings? Do you take them inside for the Winter?
Yes I bring them into the house and set by a West window for winter. I start taking cuttings in the fall if I want more large Mother plants. Then I start cuttings in January for the upcoming season.
@@toadstoolgardens9579 Thank you!

Do you water the cuttings after they are planted in the small pots?..
Yes, always water after transplanting.
After transplanting when is it time for their sun?
Keep out of sun about 1 week, Transplant after 2-3 weeks. Pull the plant up out of the pot to check roots.
@@toadstoolgardens9579 thank you🌺
What is the liquid in the second bottle from the left?
Just water. It was probably from my well so its a little Iron heavy.
