- I brought my UAV (some call it a 'drone') to Burning Man this year to catch some aerial footage. This is just a quick video I edited together from a few flights while I was still on the playa.
Filmed with a GoPro Hero 3:Black on a TBS Discovery Pro quadrotor.
Flown by DragonLink.
Music: "We Can't Fly" by Aeroplane ( itunes.apple.com/us/album/we-... ) Игры
Absolutely stunning work. And this song just went into my iTunes library.
Very awesome video. Great editing, great shots. awesome encode. It's always good to stumble across someone that not only has respect for the event but can capture it and deliver which such good quality. Again man, good job.
This is the coolest Burning Man video I've ever seen, fantastic work!
The low-light of the H3 Black is amazing - I have the Silver and the artifacting and distortion in low light is significantly above that of the black. Looks amazing, can't wait for more!
Sooper Koolness, thanks for the birds eye view. The gifting keeps coming!!
thanks for doing this!
lovely way to remember the burn!
Thanks! I had hoped to bring a UAV this year, but was too swamped with work to get it ready. This video is the best thing I've found to try to convey the scale of BM. Great job! I'm sure I saw you flying overhead many times.
I have been wondering for a long time what it is really like at BurningMan..this is the only video that I have found that really gives a true idea...the angles and heights you fly at really gives a perfect perspective. Thank you so much for sharing and I hope to see more. If the rest of the videos you show are giving us a true look at BM then you may have just given me the push to go next year...again....thanks.
Great video, thank you so much for the gift. Being back in the default world is a lot easier with things like this to watch.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Tugrik. I was not able to be there this year due to breast cancer recovery, but I was very tuned in to the live feed and the energy. Your video brought me to tears. Namase'!
Hope you are still doing fine, love from a fellow burner
Your vid put me right back in the experience. Blessings to you and your project!! :)
So fun to see where you were at a different perspective. We all know it is really big, but it is great to see it from the air.
Thank you, Tugrik, for flying over our little ant hill! Super cool to see it from top down. Big
Wow. I'd never really gotten a feel for just how -big- Burning Man is. Fantastic video! It really makes me want to get my own quadrotor and cam.
Excellent! A new view of Burning Man. Thanks
Nicely done. And thank you for being respectful of large crowds and the Temple. I look forward to seeing your finished video.
please have that ready for next year, that sounds amazing!
Great shots, looks like a lot of fun flying around.
i can spot my camp in the very beginning. : )
this is awesome - looking forward to more!
Seriously gives me chills watching this. Also it hurts my brain trying to comprehend how big we are.
Namaste! Thanx for sharing this kind of VIEW of something SPECIAL!
LIVE LONG AND PROSPER \\\//
Thank you for a beautiful video. What a burn it was.
One of the most liberating experiences of my life! Camp Fusion Valley.
TBS Discovery Pro, from Team BlackSheep. It's got a bit of a non-standard setup on it though: 700kV motors from Century Heli, RCManChild 30A ESCs, 9x5 Graupner props. Most of the FPV side is from ReadyMadeRC, and the long-range control is DragonLink.
That's fantastic! Great job
Great work, Tug, Burd! Had no idea just how vast the population was for it.
Great stuff, thanks for sharing.
Awesome thank you! This video makes me miss my first burn already! I love that I can spot my camp Music Savages! :) Cant wait to see the rest of the footage!
Very cool! Love it.
This has been on my bucket list for years...really want to take part in this..
Have you been yet?
You captured the bier bike!! We were the bar with the blue canopy by the front left speaker at Distrikt!
nice. please keep them coming. nice sound tracks
amazing vid man looks like deadly buzz
Awesome video dude. One day I'll make it across the ocean to experience this.
So Awesome!
I am still a student skydiver and have not got my solo licence yet. Some day I will be skydiving into the Burning Man camp with some of my skydiving friends at are drop zone that have already skydived into the Burning Man. Blue skies to all you skydivers out there.
fantastic
thanks for sharing!!!
Great video of Burning Man.
Awesome video man. I'm going there next year for the first time and trying to visualize how it looks like
We only really flew about 6 times from camp, and just a handful of times carrying the craft out to the playa on the back of my Camelback. The TBS Disco is a tiny thing and a lot quieter than the monster 'air-crane' octos and big hexacopters. If I was above about 30' you'd probably not even know I was up there. I saw a lot of DJI Phantoms (also tiny, but white!) and bigger hexes/octos, but I didn't see any other TBS craft, oddly enough. I'm sure some were there, though.
Amazing...
Yes! Was this little drone capturing the burn too? I think I saw it out and around on the playa. I love this video and I love you for sharing it! Can't wait to see more footage!
Nice job. It's not just the aerial footage, but I can see a lot of work/creativity in the editing. This is no simple go/pro strapped to a heli/quad home video. Keep on.
Very well done.
Cool video! Thanks for sharing!
beautiful. love it. i saw many drones that week and i knew the footage would pop on here sooner or later. i'd still like to know who was flying that drone at night with the crazy aerial manuevers.
awsome .. greetings from the netherlands
looks like district 9, can't wait to go!
Wow awesome video! Well done! Greetings from Ireland! :)
Check out the whole album. Both albums by Aeroplane are great listen-to-while-work-or-drive fodder; I highly recommend!
works perfectly with the sound! sometimes magick just happens!
You're very welcome, and thank you. My goal was to get stable, clear 'circle around it' video of the major art installations, like you see done of Center Camp and the Man in this video. Wind and health issues (nasty cold went through camp) cut our time short so we didn't get much; maybe next year! But I'm glad what we did get could bring a smile. :)
love it!!!
True, but there are rigs allowing you to adjust camera distance to compensate for that (look up the "1/30th rule"). Plan to do that on my plane soon. Right now I'm using a cheap 3D camcorder, flying it through the hangar and nearby...trying to talk some coworkers and Army folks into doing a "Harlem Shake" 3D video from a quadcopter.
WOW That was great!
Excellent, thanks 4 sharing #peace
Great Video, I'm adding a UAV to my list of new toys.
that is fantastic, agreed, peaceful, well done with all the technology....like, like
Did you see our project in previous years called C.L.I.V.E.? It was an Iridium Flare tracker made with a Spartan Xilinx III and a Gameboy Advance. Big archway with countdown sign, 85mw green laser, all solar/wind powered. Also a fun astromy sky-search tool/toy when it wasn't counting down to the next flare. :)
can’t wait to see the shot u had during robot heart fri morning! hovering over the crowd then took off into space! then came back down and went face to face w/ lee bur ridge! thing was freakin us out! thought was aliens a haha
beautifull man... thnk's
Really liked this video, thumbs up. Cheers from Sint Maarten
Interesting video; cool perspective. I was at Burning Man for 24 hours. I came to work the medical clinic. I was completely unprepared and really didn't know what to expect. I was told I'd have a place to sleep (nope). Tried sleeping in my car only to cook in the desert sun. Decided it was better to go home. :-(
Me encantaria ir al festival....Alucinante
Thanks man! Much appreciated! I guess I have a lot to learn to be a burner. Namaste!
While I have "Return to Home" GPS functionality I was flying primarily by sight. The streetgrid at Burning Man is so well laid out that it's extremely easy to use for visual navigation. The UAV used in these videos only has a minimalistic on-screen display; no "go this way to home" indicator for the pilot.
those little choppers sure kick up a lot of dust.
Great video work! I highly encourage you to use a 3D/stereoscopic set-up in the future. I've experimented with that with a quad-copter, flying down hills and through doorways. Also love your "ignore me" idea. Mind if I borrow that idea to use here in Afghanistan?
Excellent, I'm very much looking forward to you not being there next year.
super cool!
Great video ~ such a cool perspective that not many get to witness! Did I miss the temple though? Didn't see it...
Now THIS is the kind of technology BM needs!
Very nicely done. The resolution is astonishing. What did you find the maximum range to be? Did it ever slip out of your control? And were you under any guidelines as to altitude requirements at least over the populated area? Can't wait for more and thanks in advance for possible answers.
Yes, 1.3GHz@1000mW Tx with Circular Wireless RHCP antennas from ReadyMadeRC
great video...
Very cool
Never lost command; stayed above 50% RSSI at all times. Flew from base camp at 9:05 and L. Farthest point reached from there: 3:00 and H. RSSI at 68% at that point. I could have covered the entire city if I had been more willing to stay out to my battery's limit. No specific altitude restrictions except on Burn night (did not fly at all on Sat or Sun). Tried to stay over roads or open play when possible. Had ground chaser crew for landing safety.
nice footage,
This is really impressive, you got another side of it and I really like it especially those art cars. Thanks for sharing! Here is my version of it...a little shorter but still sweet. Let me know your thoughts
This is ducking awesome! Did you guys take the night shot? That would be super great!
Being a long-time burner, I value the Temple's peaceful vibe and didn't fly my not-loud-but-still-buzzy UAV near it out of respect. There's a few peeks of it at a distance in my other videos, but nothing directly overhead or too close.
Mine was unlit save for the single blinking Naza status light (green, rarely sometimes red). I never had time to fly the fully RGB LED lit hexrotor I brought -- that one never left the car! :)
Cool video; cool, perspective. I was there for 24 hours. It was an interesting experience that I wasn't prepared for. I came to work the medical clinic. I was initially told a place for me to sleep would be provided. Nope. I was on my own. Sleeping in my car didn't work as I was cooking in my car. After a day I decided to just go home. :-(
That was Center Camp itself. Just big tarps, not solar cells. The scale is hard to tell because that's the only shot where I used the GoPro's full 'wide angle' mode. It's huge.
Nice One!
Thanks, this is great! Were you the drone with the red and green lights?
Thanks for the video!
Was there much Big Art on Playa other than Temple and Man? It seems to really be lacking since 2011. Thanks a ton!
Wow.. Have always heard about Burning Man but never went. Still don't think I could. Not a desert girl at all. I do admire the people who do go! A boat load of people there for sure!
nice video!
COOL!! Yes, more please! :) )'( :)
Such awesome work! I flew FPV on 5.8 last year and had poor range. Were you on 1.3GHz for this?
Phenominal video! Great editing and even better piloting :)
What was your UAV setup? DJI? Tarot gimbal? Fat Shark FPV?
The tilt feature on the camera was pretty sweet too.
Oh and did anyone mind you flying directly over them? I'm going to BM 2014 and looking to do similar video.
Wow !!!!
I didn't know it was that many people
This is awesome! I couldn't be there this year, but I'm looking forward to 2014. I'd love to know what type of equipment your using. Drone? Camera?
Tugrik, Great video my friend! So this was captured with the Disco Pro? How well did the gimbal work for you? Also did you have to register this year with the Org for the UAV? I read something in JRS that they were implementing some sort regulation this year. )'(
Hope everyone got there tickets for 2014, can't wait to go HOME.
NICE !
Just like a regular city, there are streets and addresses which make it not as difficult to find your way around
Figured I should post a copy of my BM2013 Aerial Video (UAV) here too. :)
That was amazing!! :D Thank you for sharing!
Fucking awesome.
question? can people stay there like for a living ?
Antoni Fernandez You can if u want to. But everyone else will leave after the event is done.
There were at least two pilots with those, and a winged craft from prior years.
Did you get any shots of my camp, Camp Question Mark way out at 2:00 and I? Big sound camp. I would love to see that if you did. Love the video man.
